SAINTS SIMON AND JUDE
A Stewardship Parish + 8 Cavanaugh Court + West Chester, PA + www.simonandjude.org
MISSION STATEMENT We are one in our Church’s teachings and in the variety of gifts, services and ministries that we employ to help build up the Kingdom of God. Therefore, we commit ourselves to: Support all that makes our worship more life-giving, joyful and participatory; and become more actively involved in the sacraments of the church. Teach the saving message of Christ in our homes, our schools, and in our community so that all may come to a deeper understanding, conversion, and personal witness to Christ. Be a community of Christians called together to love one another, share with one another, and pray with one another in the spirit of the Lord. Help one another and minister willingly, compassionately, and generously to the poor and needy. Proclaim the good news of Christ in word and deed by living and sharing our faith in the parish.

Second Sunday in Ordinary Time 3 January 14, 2018
This Sunday is the First Hospitality Sunday for 2018!!
Bringing the NEW YEAR in right with a little coffee, donuts and lots of well wishes!! Everyone is welcome to join us in The Meehan Center
Sunday, January 14 immediately after the 9:00 and10:30 am Masses
Desire to Serve the Lord?
Renounce all our possessions and follow the good Lord!
Saint Francis of Assisi and Saint Clare of Assisi are the churches shining examples of poverty. They not only renounced their possessions, they gave them away, living only on the most basic necessities.
Our gospel today, is yet another reflection on the First Commandment: “I am the Lord your God, you shall not have strange gods before you.” Exodus chapter 20.
Yes, we have been challenged in many ways to put God before everything, even our material possessions. Surely, there are few hot button issues with the laity and yes, many clergy about the material possessions and properties of the church(s) of every denomination. “If the Lord does not build the house, in vein do the builders labor.” Psalm 127:1. When life throws us a curve ball, we respond with our priorities in line. There are unpredictable moments like ill health, a failed economy, unemployment, a tuition grant cancelled or the sudden death of a bread winner. These experiences leave us desperate. To renounce one’s
possessions means God comes first and there are no substitutes for the love of God. None. Basically, this teaching is a call for you and me to trust Jesus in the good times and the bad times.
“Jesus, I Trust In You.” You Alone!
God bless you. Father Gerlach

The Disciples Maker Index Survey will ask you to reflect on your own spiritual growth and enable you to provide feedback on what efforts the parish is doing to help you grow.
