according to the NORSOK M-601 standard. Only ANSI flanges (1500 lbs) made of Duplex are used as connections. The Seal Gas is filtered on the inlet side with redun-dant designed 5µm gas filter. A clogging device with pressure transducers permanently inform the opera-tor about the dirt level of the filter.

Due to the low environmental temperatures at the place of use, the system is additionally equipped with heat tracing for the Seal Gas supply and a 30 kW gas heater at the system outlet. All electrical installations comply with the NORSOK E-001 Standard and the ATEX directive. One of the innovation on this system is the use of a new maintenance concept for the boosters. The boosters can be removed for maintenance issues out of the system in just a few steps. An intelligent solution with which the downtime and maintenance times are considerably reduced by the operator of the system.

The Kvitebjorn natural gas field lies approximately 130 km west of the Sognefjord (Norway) in the North Sea. The natural gas deposits are developed with a fully-integrated fixed steel platform with drilling and process facilities and living quarters.

Approximately 4 billion cubic metres of natural gas per year have been recovered from a depth of appro-ximately 4000 metres since 2004 on the Kvitebjorn platform.

The gas is piped to Kollsnes in Oygarden, Norway. After processing at Kollsnes, the dry gas is piped to continental Europe.

A project to increase the recovery rate was tendered in the year 2010 by the operating companies. Since then, the construction and installation of a compres-sor module for the pre-compression of natural gas has commenced.

At the beginning of 2014, the compressor module on the Kvitebjorn platform will be taken into operation and increase the recovery rate by 55% - 70%.

The Project

Maximator received the contract to supply a Seal Gas Conditioning Skid for the module‘s turbo compressor. The Seal Gas Conditioning Skid supplies the turbo compressor during start-up and shutdown of the system with Seal Gas (natural gas).

To compress the natural gas, there are four Maxi-mator 8DLE1,65 boosters in use in a special version fully made of stainless steel. The high pressure parts of the booster comply with the NACE MR-0175 directive. The tubing on the drive section is made of 6Mo (screw-connected), a high corrosion-resistant special material for offshore applications, and 316L (flan-ged).
