Scotts Project Trust is situated in the beautiful countryside on the outskirts of Tonbridge, Kent.

We provide residential facilities, on-site day service activities and independent living support and accommodation for people with learning disabilities.

In 1990, Jill and Denis Scott had a dream to build a residential home where people with learning disabilities could live and work together.

This project was born out of experience when their daughter, Henny, was forced to live many miles away due to lack of high quality facilities closer to home.

Their aim was for a caring community of adults, who would benefit from a structured environment designed to help them reach their full potential through learning and leisure.

Therefore, Scotts was founded in 1990, registered as a charity in 1991 and appointed a Board of Trustees.

A three acre site, together with a superb hall in the style of a tithe barn, was donated to Scotts by Honeygrove Properties Ltd and fundraising began in earnest.

St Peter’s Row, a terrace of three homes for adults with learning disabilities, was opened by HRH The Duke of Gloucester in July 1998.

The conversion of the barn for Day Service activities was completed at the end of 1999, providing extra facilities for the local learning disabled community, and enabling Scotts to reach many more people.

The original project also envisaged the provision of homes for those who develop their skills and confidence sufficiently to live more independent lives and wish to do so.

Work on this was completed with the purchase of two adjacent detached homes.

Sadly, Jill and Denis Scott’s much loved daughter Henny, the original inspiration for the project, died in February 2004, but work in her memory goes on.

The eponymously named ‘Henny’s House’, sits in a sunny corner of the garden at St Peter’s Row and is an ideal place in which residents and family members can spend time together. We also remember Henny in our logo, the two ‘tt’s designed to symbolise an ‘H’ under a protective roof.

Supporting living service at The Oaks and The Willows

The Oaks and The Willows supported living houses, together with an on-site, self contained flat, provide the opportunity for nine people to live independently. They are well appointed, adjacent detached houses close to St Peter’s Row and our Day Services facilities and also within easy reach of shops, the post office, a pub, the church and bus stops.

Each resident has a tenancy agreement covering exclusive use of a bedroom and shared use of a bathroom, kitchen and living room. They also have a support plan that they are involved in preparing and up-dating, which setsout the type and level of support needed to enable them to move on to greater independence at their own speed.

Initially, following the move from residential living, our people tend to need support in a wide range of aspects of independent life, such as decision making, menu planning, shopping, cooking, cleaning, attending medical appointments, accessing local services, finding part time employment, paying bills and dealing with their finances.

The Oaks and The Willows has its own team of support staff whose aim is to help residents further develop their abilities and confidence while ensuring each has all the support he or she needs.

In the terrace of three houses, we have a happy and secure environment in which 15 people with learning disabilities can achieve the full development of their individual interests and abilities with maximum involvement in the life and work of their local community.

Residential care – St Peter’s Row

St Peter’s Row accepts residents from the age of 18, and acknowledges how important the continuance of learning through work and leisure following the end of formal schooling is.

We work hard to get the right balance between the protection our residents need and the independence they can achieve, providing training for those able to progress to independent living and a long term home for those unable to take the step.

St Peter’s Row is about two miles from the town of Tonbridge, in a beautiful setting. There are local shops, including a post office and chemist and also a library, pub and church, just half a mile away.

Residents attend a wide range of community activities and some attend our on-site Day Services centre.

Residents are supported to participate in activities aimed at developing their daily living skills and furthering their independence such as menu planning, budgeting, numeracy, literacy and communication skills.

All residents have an care plan that supports them to build new skills and develop existing ones at their own pace. The individual person we support sets their own goals which are reviewed at regular intervals, giving our people more independence and greater self-esteem.Our residents enjoy a social life in their community, visiting the theatre and cinemas, local restaurants, bowling alleys, etc. Many of them have joined clubs for people with disabilities.

Our aim is to provide a range of stimulation for people with learning disabilities in the community.

This helps develop individual creativity, increase confidence and opportunity to make new friends.
