FROM THE EXECUTIVE BOARD

Dear Prospective Corporate Partner:

Thank you for taking the time to view our corporate partnership proposal for the Student Consulting

Initiative. Directed to corporations in all industries and functions, we invite you to review our achieve-

ments, programming, and partnership opportunities in the pages that follow.

These economic times, though uncertain and challenging, have not deterred our professional philan-

thropic objectives. Over the past year, we have paired 24 student consultants with six additional small

businesses and generated a sustainable, positive impact for the local economy. A shuttle service has

a new reservation system, a tortilla factory a new website, and many more businesses a new

perspective on their burgeoning enterprise.

As we look forward to the 2010-2011 academic year, we are preparing to launch a new

comprehensive consulting program for the fall semester. Preceded by a concerted publicity

campaign, the program will draw distinguished students to participate in its consulting competition,

workshops, and general meetings. The fall program will be followed by our Speed Date a Consultant

event which has in past years successfully brought together industry leaders with aspiring students in

an innovative setting that promises substantive interaction. We are excited about these efforts that

will give students unprecedented learning opportunities while lending small businesses a helping hand.

Although prospective local businesses are approached in a consulting format, our events and spon-

sorship opportunities are not exclusive to consulting companies since our students utilize various busi-

ness skills and techniques that span the spectrum of business industries,

Recently recognized as the ―Best New Organization‖ on campus, we are renewed in purpose and

strengthened in resolve to add value to our school, fellow students, and corporate partners. It is our

hope that your firm will partner with our organization to continue this endeavor to build the model

business student and small business economy.

Sincerely,

Gloria Chan Aristya Pradita

ABOUT SCI

The Student Consulting Initiative (SCI) is built on three principles: service, change, and inspiration. Our

mission is to serve the Austin small business community through student consulting services. In our mis-

sion to serve, we strive to change the model of the typical business curriculum by providing

business students an unparalleled opportunity to learn by applying their skill s to real-world situations.

Our hope is to inspire the next generation of brilliant thinkers and entrepreneurs to work for a positive

impact on society.

Centered on the SCI Business Development Program in the fall, SCI focuses on two core components,

the first of which is a consulting competition. Teams of students are each paired with a unique

struggling local business. Over the course of the semester, the teams are tasked with analyzing the

business’s areas for improvement, devising a realistic plan, and implementing the actual solution.

To enhance the consultation, SCI’s second core component is the holding of regular meetings to

provide participants with career preparation and exposure to industry expertise. By bringing in

corporate speakers and student leaders, SCI participants gain valuable business insights and a wide

spectrum of exposure to career opportunities.

To supplement the fall program, SCI plans a schedule of spring events open to all University students.

Among the events are Speed Date a Professional, designed to give students maximum exposure to

variety of firms, and the co-hosting of the McCombs BBA Case Competition, designed as a more

conventional case analysis.

As the exclusive consulting organization at the McCombs School of Business, SCI is best positioned to

attract students committed to a career in a variety of industries and functions.

SCI targets the highest caliber students the McCombs School of Business has to offer. Our diverse slate

of directors has far-reaching capabilities that enable SCI to recruit accomplished students to possess

outstanding academic credentials, passion for service, and a strong record of achievement. The

rigors of our selection process ensure the greatest impact on the community and also a pool of

students who are committed to professional development.

RECORD OF ACHIEVEMENT & IMPACT

Super Saver Shuttle serves as the pinnacle of

achievements for SCI as the first place team in

2009. The team created an online reservation

system, introduced credit card payments, and

secured a sponsorship advertising for the

owner of the shuttle service between Austin

and Fort Hood in Killeen.

Cookies in Bloom received helpful

guidance from her team. With costs under

control and processes in check, the SCI

team married their unique perspectives

with realistic constraints to identify

actionable steps to help Rose grow her

business.

Margarita’s Tortilla Factory experienced

firsthand the impact of SCI on its company’s

development. The team redesigned its logo,

packaging, and pursued other distribution

channels to embolden the company’s image.

They also managed to negotiate a creative

advertising agreement with Whole Foods.

SCI BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

Date: Fall 2010

Venue: McCombs School of Business

New or Annual Event: Annual

Expected Student Attendance: 40+

Specifics: The SCI Business Development Program is designed to give students real consulting experience

and direct interaction with professionals from the consulting industry and beyond. SCI selects 4-8 four-

member teams through an application process. These teams receive the exclusive opportunity to consult

for struggling small businesses in a semester-long competition. Interaction between recruiters and teams

will revolve around the competition’s supporting events:

Beginning of Semester (Weekday Evening)

Kickoff Workshop– This event will formally begin the program and prepare teams for the consulting

competition. Sponsoring companies may provide experienced representatives to lead the workshop.

They will inform students how to have an effective approach and suggest resources to develop the

best strategies.

Middle of Semester (Weekday Evening)

Premier Networking Event– This event is exclusively for the Platinum Sponsor designed to foster direct

interaction with students. The evening dinner will mark the midpoint of the competition and provide a

relaxed atmosphere for the Platinum Sponsor to make a company presentation and get to know com-

petition participants.

End of Semester (Saturday)

Presentation Day– Sponsors send recruiters and judges to Presentation Day in order to gauge the

teams’ impact on a local Austin business, learn more about the students’ experiences, and decide the

winners. Following the judges’ decisions, the Awards Banquet serves as a conclusion to the competition

where the winners are announced. All judges and recruiters sit with the teams and discuss consulting in

an informal, intimate environment. The Platinum Sponsor closes the ceremony with a keynote speaker.

Tuesday Evenings

General Meetings– Weekly general meetings will be held to enhance the experience of SCI partici-

pants. Through corporate speakerships, meetings will engage students in discussions with experienced

businesspeople to develop their consulting acumen and ready them with skills for their career search.

Continuous

SCI Competition Promotional Material – SCI recognizes all sponsors through promotional materials in-

cluding website, brochures, posters, banners, announcements, competition packets, and more.
