Coordinator: Mandy Joseph Our project: “Sharing our languages and culture” We are creating a project to link our schools and share our languages and culture. We would like our students to form pen pal relationships to develop their language skills. We would like to share key cultural points about our countries. Primarily we will start focusing on local legends and events of importance in our respective countries. Materials: History, language and literature, foreign languages, primary school teaching materials. Languages: English, Spanish. Age of the students: 6 – 12. Aims: We would like to create a good solid link between schools to expand students´ knowledge of other cultures, as well as enabling them to practice their language skills. Method of work: We aim to work together on a regular basis, keeping up regular penpal contact, and sending each other work completed in each of our schools. Expected results: For the students to see working practice of learning a language, by being able to communicate with others in the language they are learning. To create a good link with another school, for continuing to share culture and language in the future. Woodpeckers 6th C

The students from Bristol greet their penpals for the third time, and talk about the summer holidays.

They talk about how in their school they are studying about food in Spanish. Ask them about their favourite food.

Progress so far:

We received contact from Mandy at the end of October, with the names of all the students from her class, based on the age of the class being between 10 and 11 years old we decided to pair them with class 6th C. Each child was then matched up with a pen pal.

Here is a poster with photos of all the children from 6C as well as the students from the 6th Grade at Wick Primary in Bristol.

In October, once the children had their pen pals, they spent a lesson writing a response

to their friends in England. Each child talked a bit about themselves, their family and

their home town. They also mentioned their favourite sport and food.

Here are some photos of the lesson:

MAGPIES ·3rd A

Because this the first time the Magpies have talked to their

pen pal, they use the majority of the letter to introduce

themselves, including their age, their pets, and their family.

There is also a picture of the Magpies with the Christmas

decorations in the hall at Gloria Fuertes.
