Science also • Provides students with opportunities to engage in discussions about what is happening in

the world around them. • Helps them develop their understanding so they can make informed choices and

decisions later in life. • Helps develop solutions to problems within our own lives and at a global level.

Book Week Parade

A big thankyou to everyone who participated and assisted in making our Book Week parade such a success. Special mention to the P&F Committee for organising and cooking an excellent BBQ. Well done to all staff and students for making such an effort with your costumes. Georgia Allen

The school would like to thank Georgia for her efforts in organising this year’s event. We all had great fun and it was wonderful to see so much colour and the imagination that went into this year’s costumes. Well done Georgia “Beauty”.

Enrolments for 2018 This is the time of year that our Kindy and school staff start to prepare for 2018. To help with this preparation, if you, or anyone you know of, is intending to enrol at our school in 2018 or leave at the end of this year, can you please speak to Colleen in the office as soon as possible, but no later than 29th September.

Anyone that needs to enrol their toddlers into MVE Kindy should phone 8382 8422 and speak to Sarah as soon as possible to ensure that there is space. All families are reminded that it is a DECD requirement that we must sight a birth certificate for every reception child before their enrolment can be confirmed.

Kick start your Wednesday

Don’t forget that we run a Kick Start Breakfast program each Wednesday morning during the term. Come along and sample Mr H’s fluffy scrambled eggs, or perhaps weetbix or toast. Access to The Arts Room is via the office. Breakfast is served from 8.15am.

Are you prepared for an emergency?

We understand that when you move house or change your mobile phone number we are not necessarily the first people you think of advising.

Can we remind everyone of the importance of just that though? The information that we hold on our computer system is what we use to contact families, be it everyday issues or emergencies. If we don’t have the correct phone numbers for parents and emergency contact it can lead to delays. We have also had quite a bit of posted mail being returned as “address unknown” which can also complicate and delay important items getting home in time. If you are unsure if you have updated your information please do not hesitate to contact Colleen in the office who will be only too happy to check your details for you.

School Fees Mia has recently posted home statements of outstanding school fees to all families.

Payment plans are available for families – please speak with Mia to arrange your plan. School card is another option open to many families but please remember that you MUST complete a new form each year. They do not carry over from the previous year.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Our school is participating in the Heart Foundation Jump Rope for Heart program and we would love your support! Heart Foundation Jump Rope for Heart is an exciting and non-competitive program which encourages children to become more active through skipping, learning new skills and raising vital funds for heart research and community health programs. Skipping is an excellent way for children to keep fit and healthy. Over the next few weeks, your child(ren) will be learning a range of fun skipping skills and new tricks. We will emphasise the importance of regular physical activity and the importance of healthy eating for a healthy lifestyle. Jump Rope for Heart is also a great way to encourage children to get involved in our community and support Australia’s leading heart health charity, the Heart Foundation. The Jump Rope team provides us with lots of resources and support to implement the program and in return we ask that students help by seeking sponsorship for their involvement. How to register your child:

Visit: www.jumprope.org.au go to the Kids tab and click on REGISTER

A secure fundraising page will be created as soon as you register, and then you are encouraged to share this link with as many people as possible. This is an easy, safe way for your child to monitor their progress, receive bonus prizes and even receive sponsorship from family and friends who are further afield. At the end of the program, in term 4 we will be holding a Jump Off. This is an event to celebrate the conclusion of the Jump Rope program and it’s a great opportunity for you to witness how much fun skipping can be—come along and pick up a rope! When your child(ren) has/have finished fundraising online let your teacher know and for your own reference you may like to print out a copy of the donations received online. Thank you for joining us in the fight against heart disease and we look forward to getting the whole school jumping! Yours sincerely, Mitchell Hume Morphett Vale East School Jump Rope for Heart Coordinator

Creek Discovery Group

Our group meets every two weeks to work together on ways

to help the local creek and educate people about it. We have talked about habitats, planting, creek heroes and

bullies and litter. Creek heroes are the local plants that help the creek and the bullies are the plants that clog the creek

and take all the water.

Last week we took a walk around the creek looking for

evidence of humans. We found lots of evidence. Some of it was good – tree plantings, the bike tracks and footpaths. They are

good so people can walk the creek safely and enjoy the environment. There was also evidence that was not helpful – graffiti, litter, broken posts and broken trees.

Bridges have been built and paths have been created over time to help people walk through the

area

Footprints and bike tracks are found throughout the creek area showing that

people use the paths a lot.

Rubbish and graffiti are in the creek. There are lots of cigarette butts along the path.

Drains have been put in to help stop streets from flooding

Trees have been

planted to help the local environment. Some of our students planted these plants last term.

Sports news and events Netball Umpiring Course

In week 4 and 5 this term MVEPS hosted a Netball Australia – 3 Umpires Course. We had a fantastic turnout of 16 people which included a mix of students, older siblings, parents and one

very excitable PE teacher. The first session consisted of a discussion of rules and regulations including infringements and penalties followed by some very loud whistle practice! Week 2 was all about putting theory into practice and each participant having the chance to umpire a fierce and frenetic match played by the umpire course participants themselves. It was great to see the students taking charge and developing their confidence with the whistle with the pressure of parents and older students questioning their every call. It was a great experience for all involved and I am very much hoping to see many of the

participants using their skills by taking up umpiring in local Netball competitions in the community. SAPSASA Girls

As our way of recognising the work of our girls SAPSASA Teams the other coaches Kelly Wilson (Netball), Sarah Wright (Soccer) and myself brought some medals. We wanted to reward the girls for their progress and personal conduct during the games. We were super proud of them all. Thanks to Badge Tech for another great job with the medallions.

Cheers Christine Hartwell Soccer/ Netball Coordinator

Heart Kids Soccer Fundraiser

Our Heart Kids Fundraiser was a huge success. We raised $1,576 for Heart Kids. On the day we had a huge range of baked goods, most of which were made by Jodie Altmann. The raffle

tickets sold really well. Special thanks to all the businesses who donated raffle prizes or stock to make this event a success. Thank you to the Canteen Coordinator Sarah Wright for her help on the day and to all the Parents who helped cook and sell the food a huge thanks to you also. Thanks to the NDJSA Grassroots Coordinator Steve Mutlow for his support of this event. Thanks to Coleen Byrne and Kelly Wilson who worked tirelessly with me helping get this fundraiser off the ground.

Huge thanks to my MVEPS Soccer Family for supporting the kids and us. You Rock!!!

Cheers Christine Hartwell Soccer Coordinator

U12 Soccer Team

Super proud of my U12's team. Three wins and sitting second on ladder. Looking like a podium finish at Hopgood Theatre later in the year. The whole team was treated to Hungry Jacks last Saturday by Grassroots Coordinator Steve Mutlow. Steve set them a challenge of winning two games in a row and the kids delivered. Well done kids and Coach Tracy Tozer.

Cheers Christine Hartwell
