The Great Shake Out

Schools across BC participated in the Great Shake Out today. This annual event is designed to

ensure that all BC students and school staff are as prepared as we can be when an earthquake

hits our area.

Our hard-working PAC volunteers have restocked our emergency granola bars and water in the

bins at the back.

We are as ready as we can be at the school. Do you have your emergency supply kit for home?

Check out this website for ideas: http://www2.gov.bc.ca/

Halloween Plans

We have two big traditions for October 31st. The first is pumpkin carving with buddy

classes – happens in the morning. Each child brings his/her own cleaned out pumpkin and safe

carving tools. Tools need to be labelled please. The school has very limited tools to share.

In the afternoon, at 1:00 pm, we have a costume parade that leads us to the gym to see the lit

pumpkins and a Halloween safety video.

Costumes Costumes need to be school-appropriate. Costumes that are violent, gory or sexually suggestive

are not appropriate. Weapons and masks are not allowed. In light of the “creepy clown”

nonsense that has taken up so much air time this year, I feel the need to say clown costumes

need to be of the happy sort please.

Speeding/Parking We are very fortunate here at Noel Booth as we have more parking than any other elementary

school in Langley. For the most part, families are very cooperative of the parking procedures

listed below and the staff appreciate this very much.

-Parents park in the township lot or drive through the drop off area west of the fence

-The speed limit in school zones, such as the driveway, is 30km/h

The Power of One Assembly Our PAC sponsored this presentation on bullies, targets and bystanders. The focus was on

being brave and committed to helping.

Key Points:

-bullies are often people who have been targets themselves

-bullies gain power from bystanders watching, cheering, staying silent

-targets need understanding, support and encouragement to tell

-bystanders need to stop watching and take action by either walking away or helping the

target

-telling a trusted adult is the best solution

Electronics Club Our Gr. 6/7 sessions ended today. Gr. 4/5 sessions begin on Friday, Oct. 28. We can only

accommodate 12 students so the first 12 students are in. We are hoping to offer a Gr. 3/4/5

session in the new year if our volunteers are still available.

Remembrance Day Assembly We always have a powerfully thoughtful gathering in remembrance of those affected by war –

both past and present. Families are welcome to join us on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 10:45am.

Fentanyl Information Night for Parents & Caregivers

– October 27th 6:00 – 8:00 pm (see insert below for more information)

Please find attached a poster advertising an upcoming parent awareness evening. This evening

has been a joint project with the School District, the Langley Doctors, Fraser Health, LCSS, the

Township and the RCMP. Please share widely. There is no cost or registration fee.

We include this in our newsletter because many of our families have older children. Early and

frequent discussions regarding the dangers of prescription and street drugs is the best

prevention.
