How have you demonstrated good leadership? I have demonstrated good leadership at my work, coordinating a team of people, to milk and feed 500 Friesian cows, under a time limit. I have also demon-strated good leadership in my classes throughout group tasks, helping to bring the team together and coordinate what needed to be done, while leaving everyone in the team satisfied with their role.

What is the best thing about UHS students? We get the opportunity to choose everything. Who we are, where we go in the future and what we want to do. I think the best thing about UHS Students is that our supportive environment empowers too choose - whatever it may be.

How have you demonstrated good leadership? Since year 7 we (the YR 11 SRC crew) have worked together to get a lot done in the school. In year 9 Ellie and myself took on the enormous job of rearrang-ing and organizing the lockers - which I remember took us three terms to complete until we had it running efficiently, smoothly and organized. We then trained up younger members of the SRC and passed on the responsibility. At the same time our year group, along with the help from a few other dedicated members in other year groups were the supporting beams and runners of the free toast in the mornings. My bus arrives around 8:30 in the morning and al-most every day myself and either Tarje, Libbi, Lachie, Jed or Ellie would be in the canteen with Linda cooking toast on the ancient toasters! Luckily since then we have had the new hall canteen and a bunch of new toasters, but as my bus still arrives early in the morning I often go down to help with free toast as I believe it is a great initiative within our school. Since year 7 I have been a representative member from Ulladulla high school on the Shoalhaven Youth Advisory Council/Commitee, attended the South Coast Leadership Forum (SCLF) twice, attended every swimming and athletics carnival, been present in multiple ANZAC marches, as well as the dawn service, run programs in our school such as the 'Stand in My Shoes' campaign, assisted in the running of 'Milkshake Mondays', and hot chocolates on winter morn-ings, I have attended uniform, PFC and canteen meetings on behalf of the SRC and been an active member in SRC by volunteering to help out as much as possible. In your opinion, what makes a good leader? I strongly believe all current member of SRC year 11 are great leaders. Together we work as a team and we all posses the ability to take charge and/or step down when need be. A good leader doesn't just talk the talk, but also leads through example. For example we are; Objective, compassionate, thoughtful, wise, humble, caring, we think about all people and have their best interests at heart, we use our communication skills, listen, show dedication, are hard working, we are charismatic, honest, confident, we have grit, we model appropriate behaviour, are open to opinions and welcome feedback and advise.

How have you demonstrated good leadership? continued My greatest achievement from SRC so far has probably been the "Stand In My Shoes" campaign. Again this isn't something done alone, but with the help of my amazing peers. The idea started when I brought the topic up to Libbi Ebsworth, and showed her my research behind bullying and what I wanted to do. Me and Libbi then sat down together and talked it over a couple more times, until on the way back from one of the Shoalhaven Youth Advisory Committee meetings, Libbi brought the issue up to Miss Waters, and from then it really started to go. Our vision was too change the culture of bullying and to encourage active bystander behaviourship. I really wanted everyone to act as leaders and too stand up when they seen bullying instead of watching as a bystander. We drew up our plans and budget and had great success in our re-quest for $900 funding from the Shoalhaven council (Libbi and myself went up and pitched our idea to the committee and they then voted and approved our request). We organized motivational posters, an inspirational speaker, an instagram page, the hash tag #STANDINMYSHOESUHS, I wrote up what students were to do if they seen bullying, what teachers could do, what our campaign was, how other schools could copy our campaign, Lachlan and Ellie then put this information in a great website they created for their commerce assignment which they added too include legal requirements of bullying, and the defini-tions of the different types of bullying, we then presented all of this too year meetings. These were all success in our campaign. A lot of aspects of the cam-paign failed though, such as shoe sculptures, sports equipment in the playground (to get everyone more active, and too stop the sit around and judge men-tality), and the hash tag competition. All great ideas that just seemed too much to handle with the small group of us working on it. I believe that I will be most effective to help the younger members of the SRC with their new great ideas, because I have trialed, failed and succeed before and can advise the best way to do things, and help encourage and inspire others. The campaign was a lot of hard work but I felt it had great success, even in the playground I seen a lot more people speaking out. The first thing that came to mind when I thought of leadership out of school was at work. I have been a member of the Mollymook Beach hut staff for al-most four years now, and I am happy to credit a lot of my team work, independence and leadership skills to have been learnt from there. I also believe a large part of informal leadership is simple things like being kind, friendly and selfless and I try to be the best person I can possibly be.

What is the best thing about UHS students? The way we can bind ourselves together in times that we need each other. The student body is always so positive and happy to each other that it is so easy to make friends with everyone.

How have you demonstrated good leadership? I have attended both zone and regional SRC camps, furthering leadership skills. I have successfully had the 'Milkshake Monday' program running for multiple terms and also hot chocolates on cold winter mornings. Other SRC run activities within the school that I have helped with include: Year 7 Environment Day, Year 5 Environment Day, Toast (Tues/Wed/Thurs mornings), and pushing and successfully implementing new ideas into the current SRC. Through the local scout group, I have achieved my Australian Scout Medallion, the highest award possible - having to show leadership through organising other scout members and liaising with community members.

In your opinion, what makes a good leader? A good leader is someone that is able to communicate with their team effectively and ensure that each person is working to their strength. A good leader is not someone that sits back, lets everyone else do the work and then takes credit for the work that is done, but someone that is actively working with the team, to ensure the out-come is reached at the level required.

What is the best thing about UHS students? UHS is the only high school in our town which means we cater for a lot of students. Some may see this as a disad-vantage, some don’t see any difference at all but I believe it is a great advantage. Not only does this mean we have a diverse and very unique amount of students who excel in all areas but it means our school represents the next generation of this town. Our students are highly involved among our local community in many, many ways who always shine brightly as they represent Ulladulla’s future.

How have you demonstrated good leadership? The first born of 4 girls… you could say leadership comes easily to me. Being the eldest sister comes with the expectation to always set a good example. This responsibility has followed me throughout school. In year 3 I became a member of ups src and went on to become school captain in year 6. There were times of total discomfort and unfamiliarity but none of this ended after coming to high school. As mentioned earlier I have proudly been apart of UHS SRC from year 7 right through until 11. Being in a leadership position at UHS has brought many great opportunities, this includes: - Anzac ceremonies/march - Involvement with local primary schools (year 5 camp, environment day) - Year 7 taster days + information night - SRC camp (Burrill Pines) - Youth advisory (with Shoalhaven council) - SCYLF leadership camp - SRC toast program/fundraisers - Stand in my shoes movement - ‘Do what you love’ - Regional SRC - Ushering (confidence building- meeting parents/member of community)

Opportunities such as these have grown and developed me into the person I am today and I believe well prepared me for a senior leadership position at UHS.

In your opinion, what makes a good leader? A good leader is someone who is true, not just to others but more importantly to themselves. A good leader is honest and possesses integrity. Someone with focus and determination, who is willing to give their all. These characteristics are evident in what you do and certainly shape who I strive to be.

What is the best thing about UHS students? The best thing about the students at Ulladulla high school is the attitudes that they approach their schooling life with, whether be out in the playground where students can always be seen as well behaved and kind towards each other, or inside the classroom, where students constantly diligently work and put in the effort they need to, so they can achieve their goals. The diversity of the student’s talent is also another big factor that I see as the best thing about Ulladulla High School students, ranging from musically gifted and performing arts students, to academically gifted students who excel at a range of subjects, to a world renowned robotics team, and even world class sportsmen and women. Though the best thing about Ulladulla high school students, Is that they can and will excel at whatever they choose.

How have you demonstrated good leadership? I have demonstrated good leadership throughout my life whether it be in school, playing sport or doing volunteer work. I will always do whatever I can, whenever possible to be a leader, whether it is inside or outside of my comfort zone. I am happy to help anyone in need with my full and undivided support, enthusiasm and attention. In your opinion, what makes a good leader? In my opinion, I believe a good leader is someone who isn’t afraid to voice their opinions, but is willing to listen to everyone else’s; someone who is confident in what they believe in and the ideas and morals that they stand for. A good leader will show an open minded approach to all ideas and will always stay positive. They will help the younger, less experienced and less confident students to develop the skills that they need to be able to reach their full potential. A good leader will take the initiative to talk to everyone and make them feel welcome, as well as addressing themselves to everyone as someone that is always available. They will find the positive in every situation and learn from the mistakes of the past, and will always keep a positive attitude.

What is the best thing about UHS students? The best thing about UHS students is the ability to be able to apply themselves in such a wide area of passions and experiences. They tend to be a genuinely happy, charismatic and open minded group of students; who really bring the life to not only the school but the wider community as well.

How have you demonstrated good leadership? Not only am I a natural born leader, but I have been in many situations were this was applied. My mother was School Captain of her high school, and her being one of my leading inspirations has continued to shape me in this way. I was the primary school captain, and through the first 3 years of high school (Moss Vale High) I was on the SRC, captain of the Drama Club, Debate Team, assistant direc-tor of the 2013 school play (this being difficult as a year 7 student) and began the Koori Club which is still in place at the school till this day. Since leaving that area, and starting at UHS, I have not only represented the school at the State NAIDOC Debating Competition, been one of the founding members of the Aboriginal Youth Society for the Shoalhaven, captained the Red Raiders (the winning) Cheer Squad 2015 (and captaining 25, 15 year old girls to work together efficiently is quite a task), become man-ager at Native Cafe Ulladulla, gone to the University Of Sydney for the WMBB Academic Summer Program both 2016 & 2017 where I studied politics, English and humani-ties; travelled through 9 countries over the course of 2 months (many of this time was spent traveling alone). I have led many class tasks and situations, and continue to this day, to have 4 jobs (which I greatly enjoy), be completing 13 units, remain quite well achieving in my classes and still be enthusiastically involved in many in school and out of school activities and groups. Whilst there have been many situations that I have demonstrated leadership, I believe it is really a genuine mindset, and the ability to be able to relate to people on a wid-er level. Through all of this I have remained enthusiastic, and never given less than my all.

In your opinion, what makes a good leader? A good leader is a mixture of many things; not only do they stay open minded and courteous to all the people and situations they are faced with, but they are also able to express the people they represent. A good leader is strong, but not a harsh strength, rather a strength of kindness and compassion. They inspire people to succeed, thus boosting the group they lead as a whole, not through force, but rather from adapting perspective and un-derstanding that the power of leadership is in place purely to benefit the people.

What is the best thing about UHS students? The best thing about UHS students is our diversity and uniqueness in that we come from different backgrounds and have a lot of different abilities. We can also come together and face challenges with GRIT and determination, even when we can be seen as the underdogs.

How have you demonstrated good leadership? Inside of school I have demonstrated good leadership skills through my 2016 course of Peer Literacy Tutoring where I supported year 7 and 8 students. I achieved 3rd place in the inter-schools public speaking championships at my former school and I strive to set a good example to others in the way I treat people at UHS. Outside of school I maintained a leadership role in my church youth team, organising and coordinating fun, weekly activities for Ulladulla teenagers on a Fri-day night. Also on the field in soccer I encourage my team and assist to direct play through my position as goal keeper and have attended every training ses-sion this year.

In your opinion, what makes a good leader? Someone who puts others before themselves and is willing to serve the school and maintain the UHS’s excellent reputation both inside and outside school. Also one who can handle a leadership role with the ability to com-municate and listen to teachers, students and the school community.

What is the best thing about UHS students? I believe that the best thing about the students of Ulladulla High School is the common goal which most students seem to have of always trying to be their best. This is best showcased when students represent the school, but can also be seen in the class room.

How have you demonstrated good leadership? Within the school, I am an exemplar student, as I have near perfect attendance and am always in full school uniform. I have been a part of the SRC since year 9 and have assisted in many school events such as year 7 info nights, vegemite toast and school musical canteen. I have always represented the school at the ANZAC March. Outside of school I help with supervising the nippers at the Surf Club, I am a junior steward at the Milton Show, assist with refereeing junior basketball. I also play in team sports, during which leadership qualities are shown such as communication, decision making and initiative.

In your opinion, what makes a good leader? I believe a good leader is someone who shows, rather than tells others how to do something, a good leader is not someone who stands on the sideline while others do the hard work. They have a strong focus on what they want and work hard to achieve it. A good leader is very team based, must show initiative and effective communication and strives to build those around them as much as they strive to build on themselves.

What is the best thing about UHS students? Ulladulla High School is a great school, it has an excellent support system for all for the students who attend. The teachers are supportive and this creates a wonderful environment for learning. You can achieve whatever you want to in life if you strive for the summit you can succeed in life.

How have you demonstrated good leadership? Being given these great opportunities through Ulladulla High School has made me want to focus on these leadership skills and put these skills into practice. I have used these skills at school at all of the sporting carnivals by encouraging all of my sport team to participate in the events and cheering them on when they do. Outside of school I have used my skills in my workplace, it has given me confidence to learn new skills and when there has been an opportunity to improve things there I have had the courage to speak up and my co-workers have been impressed by my suggestions and taken them on board.

In your opinion, what makes a good leader? Someone who listens attentively to their peers is what makes a good leader. You need to focus on all of the posi-tives in a person and not the negatives. There are enough negative things in life so by being positive this helps everyone.
