financial aid. All young men living in the U.S. are required to register within 30 days of turning 18. Registration is federal law. It is required to stay eligible for many Federal and state benefits, including student financial aid, job training, and jobs in the Executive Branch of the Federal government, as well as jobs in the U.S. Postal Service. Students who are 18 can register on the Internet at www.sss.gov.

TRANSCRIPTS

Transcripts may be requested several ways. Instate transcripts may be requested and sent free through www.cfnc.org. CFNC will send electronic transcripts. The transcripts are considered official and are securely delivered to the requested NC college or university within 1 – 2 business days.

Transcripts may also be requested through the guidance office. A request form can be filled out at the guidance secretary desk and can be picked up at the end of the school day or we can mail them to the university of choice.

The Wendy’s High School Heisman award honors both male and female high school students who excel in academics, athletics and student leadership. Levine Scholarship The Levine Scholarship is seeking qualified candidates. Applicants must be a competitive applicant to UNC Charlotte and must demonstrate commitment to community service, intellectual curiosity, capacity for ethical leadership. GPA of 3.8 or higher on a 4.0 scale. 1800 – 2400 SAT combined score and 29 – 36 ACT score.

Thomas Wolfe Scholarship The Thomas Wolfe Scholarship is now open. Qualified Student writers who have submitted an application for UNC for early admission by Oct. 15, 2017 as well as a Thomas Wolfe Scholarship application can apply online at http://englishcomplit.unc.edu/creative/scholarship/tws. Application UNC Chapel Hill by October 15, 2017 and Application to Thomas Wolfe Scholarship by November 15, 2017. Students must apply to both the University and the Scholarship to be considered. Horatio Alger Scholarship Amount ranges in value from $6,000 - $25,000 - The Horatio Alger Association Scholarship is now open. Students who are enrolled as a full time high school senior with plans to enter college in the fall and who demonstrates a critical financial need ($55,000 or less adjusted gross income per family is preferred). If income is higher an explanation must be provided. Applicants must be involved in co-curricular and community service as well as demonstrate integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity. Applicants must have a minimum grade point average of 2.0 and

Coca-Cola Scholars Program: $10,000.00 up to $20,000.00 – Achievement based scholarship awarded to graduating high school seniors. Students are recognized for their capacity to lead and serve, as well as their commitment to making a significant impact on their schools and communities. 150 Coca-Cola Scholars are selected each year to receive this $20,000 scholarship. LendEDU Scholarship: Value: $2,500.00 – Qualified applicants must be a current high school senior or a full-time college student, a US citizen, and earning a minimum 2.5 GPA in high school or college. Scholarships for Children of Disabled, MIA/POW or KIA Veterans: 4 Year Scholarship – Qualified applicants must be under 25, domiciled, and resident of NC, have a veteran parent who is/was a legal resident of NC at time of said veteran’s entrance into that period of service in the armed forces during which eligibility is established or the applicant of an eligible veteran is the natural child or adopted child prior to age 15 who was born in NC and has been a resident of NC continuously since birth. Cheerleading Scholarship: $500.00 – Qualified applicants must be a member of a cheerleading squad registered for and participating in the NCHSAA Cheerleading Invitational event that year. Qualified applicants must be outstanding cheerleaders who exemplify sound character and academic standing, good

Belk Scholarship is Davidson’s most prestigious merit program. Covering the comprehensive costs of attending Davidson (room, board, tuition, and fees). Scholars also receive two special-study stipends of $3,000.00 each. Belk scholars are seeking applicants whose outstanding intellectual ability and success, leadership experience, commitment to service and overall personal vigor mark them as those who will accomplish much and contribute most to the Davidson community and in their lives beyond their college years. JHS may nominate 2 Belk Scholarship candidates. North Carolina University Centennial Scholarship: $60,000.00 – Open to students interested in career fields such as engineering business management, chemistry, polymer chemistry, forensics, medical fields, international studies, design, apparel, sourcing, fashion, merchandising or retail management. A degree in Textiles at NC State is not required to apply for the Centennial Scholarship, but will be required for students to receive the Centennial Scholarship or any College of Textiles’ scholarship. Seniors that attended the STEP or Polymer Camp Summer Programs are automatically nominated for the Centennial Scholarship. Jack Kent Cooke Scholarships: Up to $40,000.00 per year – 8th grade – 12th grade students are eligible. Qualified senior applicants must be entering college in the fall of 2017, have a cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.5 or higher, have Standardized test scores in the top 15%, and demonstrate financial need. Prudential Spirit of Community Awards: 2017 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards is seeking qualified applicants who have made a difference through community service. The Society of American Military Engineers Scholarship: The Society of American Military Engineers Scholarship is now open. The Coastal Carolina Post, Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) intends to award 2 four year college scholarships valued at $2,000 each. These scholarships will be awarded to the most deserving applicants based on academic achievement, participation in extracurricular activities, and affiliation with SAME. Awards will be made in four equal annual increments. Awards in years 2 through 4 will be contingent on the recipient maintaining acceptable performance in their academics (GPA of 3.0 or higher) and extracurricular activities (evidence of continued and additional participation). Eligibility requirements are as follows: 1. Students must be a high school senior planning to enroll in engineering, architectural, or a similar technical field curriculum at an accredited college or university. College enrollment must be planned for the 2012/2014 school year. 2. Minimum of B average (3.0 – 4.0 scale) 3. Meet at least one of the following: Be a dependent of a Coastal Carolina Post SAME member or sustaining member or be sponsored by a Coastal Carolina Post SAME member or sustaining member. Note: If you do not have an SAME Member to sponsor your application one will be appointed for you. 4. Provide a completed application form to include: copy of high school transcript; copy of SAT/ACT results; and an approximate 500 word essay. 5. Arrange for scholarship application reference forms to be completed by high school advisors, academic instructors, or immediate work supervisors (maximum of 3). Better Business Bureau Torch Scholarship: Amount varies – The BBB Torch Scholarship program recognizes students who personify high ethics as demonstrated through leadership, community service, overall personal integrity, and academic excellence. Torch scholarships are given to college-bound high school juniors, seniors, and college undergraduates. Qualified applicants must submit a 1,000 word essay along with an application, transcript, and a letter of recommendation from a BBB Accredited Business.

Gifted & Talented : Susan Keel Lamar Scholarship: $250.00 – The Susan Keel Lamar Scholarship recognizes distinguished student achievement and leadership in the area of visual or performing arts. DECEMBER Scholarship Deadlines Burger King Scholars Program: Up to $50,000.00 – Open to All North American high school seniors, Burger King employees, their dependent children, spouses or domestic partners. Scholarship is annually renewable and is equivalent to the college’s comprehensive fees and provides two special study stipends (up to $3,000 per stipend) to pursue international study and other enrichment opportunities.
