From the Pastor’s Desk

As you read these few lines, I hope that after a safe drive, I am walking around in Montreal with two priest friends checking out the city’s magnificent churches, especially the Cathedral of Notre Dame. I had been at that beautiful Cathedral a few years ago and I look forward to drinking it in again. Be assured of my prayers for all the wonderful parishioners of Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Have you ever heard of the “Pettiness Prayer?” I am not sure of its authorship. Some have attributed it to Mary, Queen of Scots. Some call it a wonderful prayer for husbands and wives to pray together. Others struggling to stay sober make it part of their prayerful routine. I like it simply because I need to pray it often! It is very human, real and very direct in what it asks of God.

Will you pray it with me?

The Pettiness Prayer Keep us, oh God, from pettiness.

Let us be large in thought, word, and deed. Let us be done with fault finding & leave off

self-seeking. May we put away all pettiness & meet each other

face to face, without self-pity & without prejudice.

May we always be patient, never hasty in judgment & always tolerant.

Teach us to put into action our better impulses, straight forward & unafraid.

Let us take time for all things; make us calm, serene & gentle.

Grant that we may realize it is the little things in life that create differences,

That in the big things of life we are as one and may we strive to touch and to know the great

common heart of us all.

And oh God, let us not forget to be kind. Amen! I hope that you are enjoying these days of August. They are moving too fast for me. Peace!
