Scaling Rebuilding the digital society with people

AI, IoT, blockchain and much of the most disruptive digital innovations have been seen as game changers along the path that has led to the current situation where we have no choice but to make do with digital. However, most of them are spread at too low scale today to play their expected role of disruptor.

Digital has become a primary energy source for powering businesses, creating new products, launching new services, designing new concepts and even improving the way we live and work. With a long-term view, we can thus expect it to dramatically shift the paradigms and induce a new world order.

The question for every stakeholder is how do we keep pace and stay knowledgeable enough, to build a strong foundation for this future digital world and remain actors in this new order instead of becoming powerless bystanders.

Scaling is the first step, and if it affects companies in the first place, the new business models and work organization are deeply influencing people and society, while governments have an important role to play to help companies and citizens navigate this paradigm shift.

This 41st DigiWorld Summit will be looking ahead, thinking together about what we want tomorrow’s digital world to look like, and what we need to start doing today to get there.

14:15-15:30 – GIGABIT SOCIETY PLANS IN EUROPE In Europe as a whole, and in France in particular, the pace of ultrafast network rollouts has accelerated over the past 18 months. Tremendous strides are being made towards achieving the ambitious Gigabit Society targets defined by the European Union, and by the France THD superfast rollout scheme published in 2013. So where are we now? Are we seeing a shift in major European players’ technological choices? How do players see the industry’s strengths and weaknesses when it comes to creating an infrastructure that will be the backbone of our society’s digital transition?

A host of announcements have already been made in both Europe and around the globe, but the business models are not yet clear. What specific features will 5G bring? What new services will it enable? What market segment (B2B of B2C) will be the chief driving force?

Innovation

14:15-15:30 - INDUSTRY 4.0

Innovation is seen as a key source of differentiation in any business’s strategy, and a source

of future growth.

But with the massive waves of innovation, companies cannot content themselves with merely

technical proofs of concept with blockchain, or paying lip service to novel concepts like open

innovation or intrapreneurship: they need to take the plunge and be able to incorporate these

new ways of working, to meet market needs by scaling up.

Our speakers from a wide range of backgrounds (banking, retail, cybersecurity, telco…) will

draw on their concrete experiences to answer the following questions:

Can major corporations become, be and remain innovative?

How to ride the waves of innovation, and not innovate just for the sake of it?

What are the right questions to ask about business and technical models, and how to shift from innovation to scale?

How to study the impact of widespread adoption?

15:30-16:45 - IMMERSIVE MEDIA INNOVATIONS 2016 can be seen as Year 1 for immersive technologies. It was the year that VR Oculus Rift and HTC Vive came on the market, and the year of the Pokémon Go augmented reality mobile game.

Since then, over 20 million fixed VR headsets have been sold worldwide (IDATE DigiWorld, based on “AR – VR, On the slope of enlightenment!”, October 2019). Technologies have progressed and product lines have expanded to align with consumers’ digital entertainment habits. Innovations in AR and VR content are flourishing, in video, video games, animation and theme parks.

This session will be an opportunity to explore the latest innovations in immersive content and services, as well as the economic issues at stake.

14:15-15:30 – SMART MOBILITY & CITY

The concept of the future of mobility refers to new ways of using transport services. The latest

innovations, especially those surrounding autonomous/robot taxis, will have a profound impact

on the sector and could be a real game-changer.

The future of mobility is closely bound up with urban transport services, so the smart city will

play a key role in the development of autonomous cars as cities will also have to invest in new

infrastructure with which these services can interact.

This talk will be a chance to answer the host of questions being raised about these multimodal

forms of transport, and to explore the main challenges in terms of business models and

technical imperatives, but also to examine the likely impact on citizens’ lives.

15:30-16:45 – HEALTHCARE The growing use of digital tech in providing healthcare is enabling better communication between the sector’s professionals, and a greater accuracy in medical diagnoses and interventions – the ultimate goal being greater efficiency in treating patients. We have been seeing more and more technological initiatives on both sides of the “provider + patient” equation over the past several years, creating new opportunities for streamlining the healthcare gauntlet and allowing healthcare professionals to focus on what is most important: the patient.

Over the course of this session, we will examine the ways that digital tech will make it possible to replace humans at the heart of the healthcare process, by shedding light on the technologies involved, the associated business models, managing health data, and especially the way in which ties with patients are maintained.
