Day 2 - NIT Exchange - 21st J une

Br eakfastWe woke up at 8am for the br eakfast in Gr een Hotel.

It was our f ir st J apanese tr aditional br eakfast!

On Tuesday, we met the pr esident of the school, intr oducing our selves. He shar ed with us the differ ent cultur es of differ ent pr efectur es. He was r eally inter active and made us feel r elaxed and welcomed in the school.

Welcome by t he Pr incipal of NIT

NIT school libr ar y

Our f ir st stop in school was the libr ar y. The place was extr emely quiet until we went it . I t was r eally commendable that the students wer e diligently studying even though their exam just ended. We walked ar ound and found that ther e was quite a number of english book as well as encyclopedias in the libr ar y.

Lunch @ NIT Sasebo

As we ate ear lier than the students ther e, the canteen was empty with no other students ar ound. The canteen was r eally clean and void of any litter s. Students had to clear their own tr ays once they ar e done.

The way of disposal is quite differ ent fr om SP. They would thr ow away the leftover s in the bin, the cups and bowls into a sink f illed with hot water , lastly, they would put the chopsticks and spoon separ ately into the pails of hot water . I t was systematic and ever ything was done by the students themselves and not the cleaner s.

Us @ Enjoying our lunch

Dor mitor y building

We walked ar ound the dor mitor y, explor ing its facilit ies. We did not manage to go into one of the r ooms as the dir ector took the wr ong keys. We felt a litt le disappointed not being able to look at the r ooms. The dor mitor y was r eally neat as well.

Within the dor mitor y, ther e was a meeting r oom with tatami mat f loor ing. We wer e r eally excited as we sat ar ound looking ar ound the place. The tatami mat was r eally nice to feel and we stayed in ther e for some time

Weather Condit ions for t he day

Day 3 - Aquar ium, Cr uise r ide, MSDF Sasebo Museum - 22nd J une

Bus r ide t o t he aquar ium

Our f ir st t ime r iding the public bus in Sasebo! The bus ar r ived r ight on t ime, and as it was our f ir st t ime taking bus, we wer e quite lost as to what to do. In Singapor e, we would usually pay at the beginning of the r ide by asking the pr ice fr om the dr iver . However , in J apan, as the pr ices would be shown on the digital boar d, we just had to take the bus t icket and pay when we alight while showing our bus t icket. It was a r efr eshing exper ience and I do feel that Singapor e could maybe adopt this idea as well. Then, the entr ance would not have been congested.

Dolphin show

Touch Pool

Lion Fish

The mar ine life was diver sif ied and we wer e mesmer ized by the scene of the aquamar ine habitat and the sea cr eatur es inside of it .

We got to see many unique sea cr eatur es that r esides in the vicinity of J apan. We visited the jellyfish tank as well as their r esear ch lab. We also watched the dolphin show despite the r ain. The dolphins wer e r eally cute and obedient, listening to the instr uctions of the instr uctor s. It was a r eally fun tr ip to the aquar ium.

Gr oup pict ur e on t he cr uise ar ound t he 99 islands

Cr uise ar ound 99 islands

As we cr uise ar ound, we wer e able to see islands of differ ent shape r esembling a lion, cr ab as well as many other s.

Day 4 - Nagasaki - Peace Par k, Atomic bomb museum, Mitsubishi heavy industr y museum,

Obser vator y Deck - 23r d J une

Visit t o Peace Par k, At omic Bomb Hypocent er & Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum

Pr eviously, the locals would dr ink water fr om this fountain, however , thr oughout the year s, the water got dir t ied and since then, this pr actice was stopped.

This statue was built to symbolise peace. The r ight hand pointing towar ds the sky symbolizes the thr eat of the nuclear weapon, while the left hand extending towar ds the left symbolizes eter nal peace.

The f irst stop of the museum was the wall clock. This clock was within 800km of the hypocenter , it was mostly intact and the clock stopped at exactly the time of attack, 11.02am.

I t felt as though time has stopped for all of them when the bomb was dropped. This also showed how fast the whole thing took place. Right when the bomb was dropped, the damage it caused at that very instant reached as far as 800km away from where it was dropped. Leaving no one with any warning nor a chance to escape at all.

The ever famous Sushir o, r ecommended by the students and lectur er s of NIT. The sushi is ver y fr esh and cheaper than we can f ind in Singapor e. Instead of tea bags, they have gr een tea powder instead.

Day 6 - Huis Ten Bosch/ Onsen(Hot Spr ing) -25th J une

Small libr ar y ar ea for passenger s wait ing for t he t r ain

Tr ick Eye Museum

Some of us did not go to Huis Ten Bosch, so we decided to go to the near by Onsen(hot spr ing).
