Message from the County Superintendent of Schools Dr Mary Ann Dewan
Hello everyone ldquoArt is a line around your thoughtsrdquo ~ Gustav Klimt Art nurtures creativity innovation and culture It plays a key role in sharing knowledge encouraging curiosity and sparking dialogue Today is World Art Day and I invite you to celebrate the development and enjoyment of all things art Art is everywhere If we look closely it is in everything Art is in the design of your cereal box the graphics of the video games we love to play and the songs we sing Affecting our lives in both subtle and obvious ways expected and unexpected art connects us through tradition and is present in poetry food dance and stories Many of us have been spending an excessive amount of time in front of screens for virtual meetings emails and even for pleasure with streaming services Today I encourage everyone to take a few extra minutes to take part in a creative exercise to look around and discover the wonders and beauty that shape our world Be Well Mary Ann Dewan PhD County Superintendent of Schools

RAFT Donation
A special thank you to Surplus Service a local San Jose business for their generous donation of eight (8) pallets of office supplies to our partner organization Resource Area for Teaching (RAFT) The office supplies will be reused to build educational activity kits for students including hands-on STEAM and art projects RAFT currently serves a community of more than 8000 educators and 150000 students each year and provides teachers access to low-cost supplies creative materials and a large professional community of like-minded innovative educators CLICK HERE for RAFTs news and events

Volunteers Needed Now To Help the Community The City of San Jose Santa Clara Valley Medical Center and AACI are coordinating a vaccination event on April 16 The event is targeted at helping our unhoused population stay safe and help protect the community The event is from 8 am to 4 pm You must sign up for a minimum 2-hour shift and training will be provided To sign up CLICK HERE and scroll down to find the April 16th event and help our community get better

Defensible Space begins at the edge of your home Ensure that the area that extends from 0-5 feet from the home is completely free of anything that could catch fire
bull Move any flammable materials away from wall exteriors ndash mulch flammable plants wood piles etc
bull Limb trees so they do not hang over the home

SCAM ALERT The Santa Clara County Sheriffrsquos Office is issuing a reminder and warning to the public to be aware of phone calls or other communication claiming to represent themselves as a member of the Sheriffrsquos Office in an effort to defraud them Members of the public typically the elder community are told they must pay fees for a variety of reasons (ie warrant for their arrest failure to appear for jury duty bailing family member out of custody etc) The Sheriffrsquos Office or any other government agency will NEVER contact a member of the public asking for personal or financial information NEVER PAY FOR ANYTHING ON THE SPOT If you are unsure please contact us and we will provide you with further guidance Please
