Hello parents, carers and friends of Sandy Beach Public School, R U OK Day Last week our student council led the R U OK day at our school. They spoke to all classes regarding wellbeing and teachers completed short activities in the classrooms. The aim was to empower everyone to meaningfully connect with people around them and start a conversation if anyone needs help. That is, just be a good friend and a good listener then encouraging action. Thank you to Ms Musgrave for coordinating this event. Congratulations to our R U OK poster competition winners: Kinder: Aria Clayton and Bohdi Lovett Year 1: Molly Murgatroyd and Harry Frans Year 2: Iylah Weller and Kiarah East Year 3: Zara Johnson and Scarlett Holmes Year 4: Elsa Harnett and Townes Evan-Wood Year 5: Isabella Maybon and Chloe Henderson Year 6: Alina Hidzir and Jarrah Hayes Fruit and Veggie Month To encourage healthy eating our school is participating in this annual event. In the first week classes were challenged to try as many different fruits and vegetables. 3 Teal won this challenge! Last week students were asked to create a poster promoting eating fruit and vegetables. The winners of this were Harper Mitchell from Early Stage 1, Sunny Wadleigh from Stage 1, Ava Galway from Stage 2 and Lila Brammah from Stage 3. Highly commended Alexa and Ace Findlay. This week students have been challenged to make a creature using fruit and vegetables. Thank you to Mr Guihot for organising these activities. Environmental Education Lessons Last week classes were lucky to have two teachers from Cascade Environmental Centre to teach lessons about our environment. The theme of the lessons was Super Bugs’. Students found all sorts of small creatures around our playground. Some classes also made wonderful clay insects. Feedback from students is they enjoyed learning about insects and bugs with a different teacher. New soccer field Our mini soccer field has finally been finished. Goals are ordered. There is keen anticipation by students to use the field. It just needs a few more weeks to settle and will be ready for action in Term 4. This was funded through a successful grant application of $14,144 from the Australians Government Local Schools Community Fund and the remainder from our school budget. Principal’s Bookwork Awards I have continued to enjoy students sharing their high quality books with me over the past fortnight. Students who received these awards are: Christian Cheney – 4 Gold Milla Pasquali – 1 Sapphire Bayley Johnson – 5 /6 Turquoise Leela Mangion – 2 Orange Update phone numbers and email addresses Please ensure your details are updated with the office. Not only are they important for daily contact if required but also in the case of a COVID-19 incident. Let’s hope it won’t be necessary for the latter. Before School Supervision There is an increasing number of students coming to school too early in the morning. A reminder to parents that supervision of students commences at 8.45am and children should not be arriving before 8.30am at the earliest. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. Parents at Waiters Could parents who are standing along the fence at Waiters in the afternoon please move up the footpath and wait in between gates, in front of school rule signs. At the moment, people are obstructing the view of staff and students to see cars for pickup. Many thanks for assisting us in this matter. Staffing changes Mr Steve Monkton will be our General Assistant for the remainder of the year in Mr Woolsey’s place, who has now retired. Also Ms Williams will be teaching at Bellingen Public School next year. She is doing a teacher exchange for one year with a staff member from Bellingen, Mr Craig Ellem. Also Mrs Mikaere is on leave at the beginning of next term for 3 weeks. Ms Simpson will be teaching 1 Sapphire and Mrs Mifsud is relieving Assistant Principal for Stage 1. All the staff at Sandy Beach Public School wish everyone a safe and happy holiday. School resumes on Monday 12 October. Diane Blevin Principal
