PreambleBoth Parties recognize that a response is necessary to the rising costs in dental care. Therefore a joint-recommended change in dental coverage was made by the Health and Welfare Benefits Committee.This change was to eliminate the current CDN network (San Diego City Schools Dental BenefitsPlan) and to replace it with the proposed Delta Dental PPO Plan. This recommendation includestaking the proposed district-wide cost savings which are approximately $191,577.00 for the calendaryear 2008 and approximately $1,000,000.00 dollars for the 2009 calendar year and applying thesesavings to salaries for each of the units involved in those savings.

Therefore the Parties agree that the following changes to Article 9 -Health & Welfare Benefits, will beimplemented in advance of the adoption of the 2007/08 reopener agreement.

Section 9.3: DENTAL BENEFITS PLAN

2.025 COURSE WORK COMPLETED AFTER MEETING THE BACHELOR'SDEGREE REQUIREMENTS

Qualifying upper division or graduate course work completed after meeting theBachelor's degree requirements and prior to granting of the bachelor's degree will becredited in the same manner as course work taken after the bachelor's degree providedthe registrar of the college granting the bachelor's degree certifies that the additionalcourse work was not part of the requirements for granting the bachelor's degree.

Appendix B -Early Childhood Salary Rules

5.03 A unit member reassigned from a regular teaching position assigtlee tewithin the Early Childhood Education Program to one of the followingpositions will receive a lead teacher stipend beginning on the effectivedate of the ~assignment.

Extended-day payment units are units of value for each extended-day assignment approved bythe Board of Education. The value of each unit is established as 1.4 percent of the annual salaryamount designated for salary class 012-13 of the SDEA Bargaining Unit Salary Schedule(Appendix A). The annual value of one extended-day unit is:

5.00 SUPERVISION SESSION SERVICESupervision session payments are payments made by the district to visiting teachers assigned tosupervise pupils at school-sponsored dances or interscholastic athletic events when the service ofa regular district contract unit member cannot be obtained.Late Afternoon Sessions --

UNDERPAYMENTS OR OVERPAYMENTSEach employee is encouraged to review the annual salary placement and to examine all paywarrants carefully. If an incorrect salary placement has been made or an individual pay warrantis in error this information must be brought to the attention of the district immediately.Overpayments and underpayments are not subject to the accumulation of earned interest. If anincorrect salary placement or warrant results in an underpayment the district will issue asupplementary warrant for the amount due as soon as possible.Board of Education By-Laws limit the time period for submitting claims due to underpayment ofwages to one year from the date the underpayment began. If the incorrect placement or warrantresults in an overpayment the district is required to recover the full amount overpaid. Therecovery schedule will include consideration to both the district and the employee.

PAY RATES FOR WORK PERFORMED BY UNIT MEMBERS RETIRED FROM THEDISTRICTThe following hourly pay rates are established for unit members retired from the District whoreturn to work to complete short term and ongoing assignment(s) and who are not substitutingfor a regular unit member.

7.01

Unit members retired from the District who return to work to perform the full scope ofduties previously assigned to them as regular unit members will be paid the current prorata hourly rate, including special compensation, for the salary schedule step and columnon which they were placed on the date they retired.

7.02 Unit members retired from the District who return to work to perform certificated hourlyservices other than those covered in Section 7.01 will be paid the current NonclassroomAssignment rate in accordance with Appendix A, Section 7.011 of the Salary Rules andRegulations:

POSITION CLASSES COMPENSATED ON THE SUMMER SCHOOL ANDINTERSESSION TEACHERS' SALARY PLANSThe above rates apply to contract teachers of the San Diego Unified School District serving inthe regular or full-time special education summer school and intersession programs of thedistrict. These rates also apply to unit members in nonclassroom assignments such asCounselors, curriculum writers, Library Media Teachers, School nurses, School Psychologists,Psychometrists, and all other classes which are compensated on the contract SDEA BargainingUnit Salary Plans.

LENGTH OF WORKWEEKThe number of hours of service required for regular and special education summer school andintersession assignments will be as specified by state law and:

2.01

Schedule A in Appendix E is based upon a weekly rate. Unit members assignedto this schedule earn the same amount during a week containing a holiday as theywould earn during a week with five (5) workdays.

2.012 The hourly equivalent rate of Schedule A in Appendix E will be one-twenty-fifth(1/25) of the weekly rate.

2.013 Classroom teachers delivering up to four (4) hours of instruction will be paid forfive (5) hours.

2.014 Schedule A in Appendix E applies to both elementary and secondary sites wherethe length of the instructional day is four (4) hours or less.

2.015

Sick leave will be accrued at the rate of four (4) hours for every fifty (50) hours inpaid status during a summer school or intersession assignment under thisparagraph. Absence for a full day will be charged at a rate of five (5) hours perday.

2.016

Unit members delivering up to four (4) hours of instruction shall not be requiredto attend staff development.

2.02 Unit members assigRee te sites in assi2nments where the length of the instructional dayfor regular and special education summer school and intersession programs is greaterthan four (4) hours will be compensated on Schedule B in Appendix E: Full-DaySummer School and Intersession Assignments.

Schedule B in Appendix E is based upon a daily rate. Unit members assigned tothis schedule are paid only for scheduled workdays.

2.021

The hourly equivalent rate of Schedule B in Appendix E will be one-fortieth(1/40) of the weekly rate.

2.022

2.023 Regular on site hours will be six (6) hours and thirty-five (35) minutes. A dutyfree lunch will be provided. The instructional day will not exceed five (5) hours.

2.024 Each week may include a maximum of four (4) hours mandatory staffdevelopment. Any staff development beyond the four (4) hours will be voluntary.

2.025 The regular day as defined in Article 8 will be honored,explicitly stated herein.

.Three {3) hours of instruction will be paid for four (4) hours

.Four (4) hours of instruction will be paid for five and one-half (5 1f2) hours

Special education staff required to support the summer school program may work at morethan one site and may be assigned to a workday or workweek that varies from thestandard assignment of a single site. These staff will be assigned a weekly wage base4upon Salary Schedule A in Appendix E and pro-rated to the actual hours that the unitmember is assigned.

2.04

Unit members assigned to the infant program that work beyond their basic contractworkyear will be paid according to the Salary Rules and Schedules for Appendix A,paragraph 7.03-Extended Work Year Service to fulfill the state mandated instructionaldays for the infant program.

PLACEMENT ON THE SUMMER SCHOOL AND INTERSESSION TEACHERS' SALARYPLAN

3.00

Unit members, except Visiting Teachers, will be placed on the step and columndetermined in Appendix A, exclusive of any special compensation. A unit member in asummer school assignment who has just completed a temporary contract shall beincluded under this section.

Noncontract certificated employees hired to serve only in summer school and intersessionassignments included in Section 1.00 will be compensated at the rate for the SDEA

Bargaining Unit Salary Plan 0199 Step 01, Column 010. This excludes employeesworking as day-to-day visiting teachers in summer school and intersession.

Assignments not included in Section 1.00 will be compensated in accordance with salaryrules established in other certificated employee. salary schedules as determinedappropriate by the Human Resources Director.

3.03

The rates for Appendix E, Schedule A and Schedule B shall be based upon the pro-rataequivalent of Appendix A rates.

UNDERPAYMENTS OR OVERPAYMENTSEach unit member is encouraged to review the annual salary placement and to examine all paywarrants carefully.
