Pastor’s Corner

What do the following Bible verses have in common?

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” “Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.”

“Strive first for the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.”

“Ask, and it will be given you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you

Here are a few answers. They all:

Come directly from Jesus

Are ways to live out faith

Are commands Jesus gives

Are addressed to you

Come from the gospel of Matthew o Matthew 28:19, Matthew 11:28, Matthew 6:33, Matthew 22:37, Matthew 7:7

Are verses you will read over the summer

Are a great way to introduce the Summer Gospel Challenge

We read Mark (2015), Luke (2016), and now drum roll please… This year’s Summer Gospel Challenge is the Gospel of Matthew.

Reading the Bible is one of the most important things we can do together as a church community. The Bible is our source of faith and life in the Lutheran Church, therefore I encourage you to read it this summer. The Gospel of Matthew in an incredible gospel and paints a powerful picture of Jesus ministry here on earth.

*Tip. Try and read the entire book of Matthew in one sitting if you are able.

You will have from Memorial Day to Labor Day to complete the challenge. When you complete the Summer Gospel Challenge, please take a marker and sign your name on the wooden cross in the narthex.

We will be able to visually track our progress as the cross becomes highlighted by your names. This year, the goal is to get 50 people to read the gospel of Matthew.

Throughout the summer, I will highlight information about the gospel of Matthew in the S.A.L.T as well as in worship.

I’m looking forward to seeing how God speaks to you through the Gospel of Matthew.

In Christ,

Pastor Micah

Service Opportunities

Mission of the Month – Youth Ministry

Help us support our youth ministry program. We provide opportunities for kids to connect with Christ. This year we are taking our youth to the Lake Superior Hiking Trail to experience God’s beautiful creation, outdoor bible studies and worship services, and fellowship with other youth from our conference. This trip is was chosen for its proximity and affordability for our youth, but with your help we can make sure that everyone who wants to go is able to.

We are also starting to plan and fundraise for our 2018 youth mission trip where we will join 30,000 other Lutherans for the 2018 Youth Gathering in Houston Texas. Every three years, high school youth and their adult leaders from across the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America gather for a week of faith formation known as the ELCA Youth Gathering. Through days spent in interactive learning, worship, Bible study, service and fellowship, young people grow in faith and are challenged and inspired to live their faith in their daily lives. Your mission dollars will help make this trip possible for our youth. Thank you for your continued support of our youth ministry and helping our kids connect with Christ in meaningful and faith forming ways.

ELCA Global Ministries

This Pentecost Sunday, June 4, join the ELCA in lifting up Global Ministries and celebrating the global community of Lutherans.

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) has deep, long-standing relationships with more than 80 Lutheran churches around the world. Because many of the global companion churches are growing quickly and deeply connected to the heart of their communities, the ELCA accompanies them in their efforts to start new congregations, extend outreach in urban areas, and train pastors and evangelists.

If you are interested to donate or ways to be a part of ELCA Global Ministries please find visit ELCA.org/global ministries.
