The inquiry
• Based on a framework established in 2011 by the community
• Call for answer in May 2012 – Opened until end of June – 330 students – 110 teachers
• Two parts: – Sakai tools use – General feeling about IT and LMS

A short history
• 2000 – 2006: WebCT – In 2006-2007: 150 courses, 1000 students
• 2007 – 2013: Sakai CLE – 2013: 1500 active courses, 50 projects – 20 000 students – 1200 teachers
• Accessible from the university portal: uPortal 4 – Backdoor for non-registered students – No connection to students system – LDAP-CAS authentication

• Resources is the most important tool
• Melete appreciation by students ranks high – Students appreciate to be driven through courseware – Melete is being replaced by Lesson
• Drop box used as a simple ePortfolio • Appreciation of Tests & Quiz, Assessments linked to
the use: – Skepticism from teachers (control of students) – Agreement of students for remote use

Attitude towards IT
• 65% of teachers use Sakai for blended learning
• 17% as a supplement only
• 4% for distance learning • Expectations from students are higher than from
teachers – Teachers skeptic about a changing attitude of students – Not all ready for the work required to enhance teaching
with Sakai
• A minority does not want to change (less than 10%)

• Demand – Better integration in SIS – Better access to external spaces
• No real controversy about its use and implementation
