SAINT ROSE OF LIMA STARS!
I am very thankful to God for putting me in this parish. As we
celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany this weekend, I am
conscious of how zealously the people of Saint Rose want to
make Jesus Christ known. We are called to be like the star of
Bethlehem which led the Magi to the Savior! We are indeed
Saint Rose Stars!
The city of Lima, Peru, where Saint Rose was from, was founded on the Feast
of the Epiphany and so has three crowns and a star on its shield. Here is an
image of the shield:
We are to be the stars that lead others to Jesus, just like the star of Bethlehem
led the wise men to Him! Remember to keep your light shining brightly so that
others can find the way. Be a Saint Rose Star!
Faithfully,
Fr. Baker
Fielmente,
P. Baker
CARE FOR THE CHURCH
“So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to
those who are of the household of faith.” Galatians 6:10.
Saint Rose is in need of parishioners who desire to do “hands on work” for our
household of faith. If you would like to become a volunteer Sacristan in
preparing the Church, altar, candles, vestments, linens, etc. for Mass please
contact Paula Farmer at 615-974-7676. A training session will be held on
January 31. Please plan on joining us and learn how you can grow in service,
spirit and social interaction.

HAITI
January 6 is always celebrated well into the night in Haiti with stories about the 3 Magi and the face
-to-face meeting with Jesus Christ our Lord. It is a time to fill one’s spirit with hope. The time from
Christmas Eve to the night of the Three Magi is saturated in religious meaning and stories—strong
oral traditions. American culture has great influence even in Haiti. The educated of Robillard know
about Christmas trees and Santa Claus. There is also Papa Noël stories of him distributing gifts. To
the everyday citizen, Santa Claus and Papa Noël are a bit of a disappointment to those listening to
such stories--if not confusing. Neither figure shower gifts on every child. They are quaint stories
and even those dressed in costumes of Santa Claus or Papa Noël are thin figures. In the capital
city, they may be present, but not in rural areas. So, nothing about Santa Claus or Papa Noël is
real. It is God who is bountiful. The Gospel reading about the 3 Magi is real to the faithful. It fills the
minds with wonder and their gifts are curious for the baby Jesus Christ.
