The Catechism’s Teaching on the Family

The family is often called the principal cell or building block of human society. Since

we are used to thinking about the family as the place where our

Catholic faith is handed on and lived, we sometimes pay too little

attention to how the family itself is related to the plan of God re-

vealed in Scripture for the sake of our salvation in Jesus Christ.

In today’s world, where the framework for public discourse is too

often focused on the rights and freedom of the individual, the Cat-

echism looks at the individual as a member of a family, and at the

family in relation to society; it speaks about the duties of children

and of parents, of citizens and of civil authorities. It emphasizes the social dimension

of human existence, and thus provides an important antidote to an increasingly frag-

mented (and fundamentally anti-social) view of humanity. The Catechism makes a

significant point when it reminds us that the fourth commandment “introduces” - lays

the groundwork for - the “subsequent commandments, which are concerned with par-

ticular respect for life [Do not kill], marriage [Do not commit adultery], earthly goods

[Do not steal], and speech [Do not bear false witness against your neighbor].” Thus it

states that the fourth commandment “constitutes one of the foundations of the social

doctrine of the Church” (2198).

“If you want to bring happiness to the whole world, go home

and love your family.” -Mother Teresa

Prayer to the

Holy Family

JESUS, Son of God and Son of Mary, bless our family. Graciously inspire in us the unity, peace, and mutual love that you found in your own family in

the little town of Nazareth.

MARY, Mother of Jesus and Our Moth-er, nourish our family with your faith and your love. Keep us close to your

Son, Jesus, in all our sorrows and joys.

JOSEPH, Foster-father to Jesus, guardian and spouse of Mary, keep

our family safe from harm. Help us in all times of discouragement or anxiety.

HOLY FAMILY OF NAZARETH, make our family one with you. Help us to be instruments of peace. Grant that love,

strengthened by grace, may prove mightier than all the weaknesses and

trials through which our families some-times pass. May we always have God at the center of our hearts and homes until we are all one family, happy and at peace in our true home with you.

Amen.

10:45AM to 12:15PM Civic Center Plaza, San Francisco

Georgette Forney and Fr. Frank Pavone from Priests for Life will be here. Their message and testimony desperately

NEEDS to be heard on the West Coast!

Walk for Life Main Event 12:30 – 1:30 PM

Civic Center Plaza, San Francisco Rally: 12:30 to 1:30PM

Walk: 1:30PM

Mission: To change the per-ceptions of a society that thinks abortion is an answer. Abortion does violence to women and to their children, both physi-cally and emotionally. We deserve better

than abortion.

We intend to establish a new West Coast tradition of celebrating life and we’re call-ing for solidarity among women and all people of good will in affirming human

life. Abortion harms women and men; it di-

vides families and society. Women–and all people–deserve better than abortion. We strive to shed light on all issues of

life, but particularly to change hearts hurt by the violence of abortion.

Life is the best and only good choice!

Be Patient Are you married? Be a saint by loving and taking care of your husband or your wife, as Christ did for the Church. . . . Are you a parent or a grandparent? Be a saint by

passionately teaching your children or grandchildren to know and to follow Jesus. It takes so much patience to do this: to be a good parent, a good grandfather, a good

mother, a good grandmother; it takes so much patience and with this patience comes holiness: by exercising patience. –Pope Francis

“The world ‘s thy ship and not thy home.”

-St. Therese-

January 1st, 2020 Solemnity of Mary The

Holy Mother Of God

When Jesus saw his mother, and the disciple whom he loved stand-

ing near, he said to his mother, "Woman, behold, your son!"

Then he said to the disciple, "Behold, your mother!" And from that hour the disciple took her to his own home.
