Reflection on Last Week’s Readings This feast shows us the goal of our earthly journey. It is a goal that defies our imagination, and that gives an eter-nal dimension to our lives. However, we know nothing of the mystery of the be-yond. All that we have are the words of Jesus: “Where I am, you too will be.” Lord, grant that the glitter of this world may not dim our hopes of eternal glory. And by your unceasing care, guide our steps towards the life of glory. Amen

closely with the school, bringing over ten years of experience working in Catholic schools: Three years as a recruiter for Thomas Aquinas College, two years as an ad-ministrator at a seminary in Connecticut, and most recently 8 years at Holy Spirit Prep. He proposed some strategies to help increase enrollment, cultivate the Catholic identity and improve the financial stability of the school including marketing and out-reach beyond the Parish community. Questions were also asked about the status of the Prince Avenue sale. Fr. David,

stated that when the sale of the Prince Avenue is concluded, the church budget will

be reduced by roughly $5000 each month, currently being paid to support the Prince

campus through security lighting and insurance and basic water, lighting and gas. The

estimated closing of the property is the end of June. He explained that the continued

delays are due to the county putting more conditions on the developer, Russ Davis,

who in turn needed extensions to address those issues prior to final sale. In the

meantime, the developer has placed a large sum in escrow and continues to make

payments each month that the closing is delayed.

Once the sale is closed, then the Archdiocese will let us move forward in our building

plans. These include selecting an architect, making final decisions in the building pro-

cess based on our budget and applying for necessary permits to break ground and

begin.

The meeting concluded with a renewed enthusiasm for the school and a commit-

ment to promote it and pray for its success.

Godparent Guidelines

The role of a Godparent in the Catholic church is an important one. They are not merely ceremonial gift-givers, nor are they required to physically adopt a child in the event of a parent’s death. Choosing godparents should be done based on their spiritual maturity and eligibility in meeting the Church’s guide-lines: they must be a practicing Catholic, and have received all the initiation sac-raments of Baptism, Eucharist and Con-firmation. They must live a life of faith in agreement with the Church’s teachings, and be familiar with the faith in order to catechize the baptized person and en-sue their spiritual well-being, which befits the role to be undertaken by God-parents. Godparents are to be one man and one woman and if married, married in the Catholic faith.

A non-Catholic person can be chosen as a "witness", but there must be at least one “active” Catholic Godparent as well. A person who wishes to be a God-parent must provide written verification of eligibility from their home parish that they are an “active parishioner.” This is determined by the Pastor of the church, based on documentation of your tithe envelope that you are registered and attend Mass regularly. If you are selecting Godparents for the Baptism of a child, or if you have been asked to be a Godparent, it is im-portant to contact the Parish office sev-eral months in advance of the baptismal date to obtain an official Sacramental sponsor letter from the Pastor.
