FALL FOR JESUS

HE NEVER LEAVES

St Vincent de Paul Awareness Month

WE SERVE THE POOR

September 27th is the feast day of St. Vincent de Paul, the patron of our St. Vincent de Paul Society. Vincent often

said that he knew that “God had sent him to bring good news to the poor.” We might think of poverty as something

in other areas of our city, but if you read our ministry report each month, you know that the need is great right here

in our own neighborhood. Serving the poor is one of the most concrete ways that we can put our faith in action as

followers of Jesus.

In 2020, throughout the 10-county Archdiocese, Vincentians from 116 conferences made 24,605 visits to people in

need. They spent over $2.3 million in financial donations to provide basic needs. In addition, over $1.1 million in

donated goods were distributed. Over 1,945 Vincentians offered 113,924 hours of service to help 71,342 people in

need.

Our members may be the ones doing the work, but it is only because of your support-- you provide the funds that

allow us to bring real hope to people who are desperate, you provide the food we distribute and your generosity is

what continues to inspire us to continue this mission of compassion to the poor. Thank you for your support.

In autumn, the creativity of

God hollers. Look at these things!

These paper-thin solar cells that

convert sunlight into acorns! They’re

everywhere, and they’re made by a

God who doesn’t know how to stop

creating. Autumn reminds us

that there’s a world

of wonder.

In our culture, we see glory in

youth and newness-in the Spring

and Summer people. But we can

learn from the Autumn wisdom

that comes with age. Our parents

and grandparents’ leaves are

starting to change. Their color is

silver rather than red, but the

glory is the same! They may not

have quite the same speed as they once did, but they have wisdom and grace

and decades of joy that shine in their faces. They’re taking on the beauty of

Autumn, showing dimensions of glory that Summer just doesn’t display.

Autumn reminds us to rest. The falling leaves create a warm blanket

for the renewal and rejuvenation of all living things. We simply cannot be

the people God intends us to be without time for rest and reflection, and

that thought is countercultural. Remember who you are, and WHOSE you

are during this Autumn time of year.

The ARISE Program serves children, teens and

adults who are challenged with disabilities by

providing religious education programs such as

Reconciliation, First Communion,

Confirmation, and Post Confirmation (The Life

of Jesus) that are adapted for their needs.

Looking for something rewarding to do for

one hour a week? Every Monday from

6:30-7:00pm the catechists work 1:1 with a

student with special needs on Reconciliation,

First Communion, Confirmation or The Life of

Jesus. From 7:00-7:30pm everyone joins in the

church for our Gathering Prayer Service. The

students participate in the service through

singing the songs in sign language, reading of

the Gospel, listening to Deacon Jim or Tim for

the Gospel message and offering their prayers.

It is a wonderful way to start YOUR week!

Do you have gently worn clothes that are in need of a new home?

Please consider bringing them to our clothing drive which

supports Fr. Gene’s Help Center! Coats are especially needed!

All sizes and all seasons are welcome! Clothes/coats should be

free from damage and stains, please.

About Fr. Gene’s Help Center

Fr. Gene Jakubek founded Father Gene’s

Help Center in 1969. The idea

originated when a group of individuals

volunteering at a nursing home realized

a lonely elderly women needed a

sufficient bathrobe. A chain reaction of

giving began, and soon they had

multiple bags of clothing for the less

fortunate. The free clothing center was

established and continues to this day!
