The Living Crown of Mary – One photograph is all that it takes for

you to become visible in the Living Crown of Mary. We invite you

to join the Pauline Fathers and Brothers from the American Dzesto-

chowa located in Doylestown, PA, as they resolve to honor Mary in

this Jubilee year of the 300th anniversary of the Coronation of the

Miraculous Image of Our Lady of Czestochowa. Begin by taking a

picture of yourself or someone you love, and then include your in-

tentions, resolutions, and spiritual gifts in order to crown Mary with

your heart. Upon receiving all of your images, a grand and marvel-

ous mosaic of Our Lady of Dzestochowa will be created from all the

pictures. You will also receive an image of Our Lady as a sign that

you are a precious jewel in the Living Crown of Mary. For more

SAINT CECILIA CEMETERY – I used Memorial Day

weekend to announce an addition to the Saint Cecilia Ceme-

tery. A COLUMBARIUM is being constructed, off site, and

will be delivered to the cemetery sometime in August. A

“columbarium” is an above ground structure which houses the

ashes of the departed in individual compartments. Our colum-

barium will have 80 compartments which will be topped by a

statue of the Risen Christ. Around the structure will be the

words the Lord Jesus spoke to Martha in Bethany at the grave

of her brother Lazarus, “I am the Resurrection and the Life, he

who believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live.” (John

11:25) For those who choose cremation, the columbarium is

the place (along with the ground) which the Catholic Church

states is the proper place for the burial of the faithful de-

parted’s ashes. The columbarium will be placed on the left

side of the cemetery as you enter through the main gate. One

may purchase a burial niche as soon as the structure is in place

and after it has been blessed. Information regarding the price

for the burial spot will be announced in the coming weeks.

For further information you may speak to me or the cemetery

administrator, Mrs. Diane Boykow, by calling the parish of-

fice. – FATHER ZIG

ARE YOU BEING CALLED? – Anyone interested in serv-

ing as a lector or an extraordinary minister of Holy Commun-

ion is asked to contact Father Zig for additional information.

Training for both ministries will take place following Labor

580-St. Cecilia

St. Monica came into the world in the year 333. As soon as she was old enough she was married to Patricius, a pagan citizen of Tagaste. Although Patricius was a man of high temper, she bore all trials with great patience. Her example and gentle con-duct exercised such an influence over him that he was finally converted to Christianity. He died the year after his baptism.

The great cross of her life was the conduct of her son, Augustine, who was seventeen years of age when his father died in 371. His mother prayed long and fervently for his conversion. When he left her in Africa to go to Italy, she followed him and found him at Milan, where the words of St. Ambrose had already convinced him of the falsehood of Manichean doctrines, which he abandoned without being entirely converted.

In August, 386, St. Monica had the long-coveted happiness of seeing her son return to God. He was baptized by St. Ambrose on Easter eve the following year and soon after, with his mother and some friends, he set out for Africa. But St. Monica’s work was done; her son was converted; the sinner had become a Saint. She fell sick on the road and died at Ostia, from where they were to embark, in 387.

PRAYER God, Comforter of the afflicted, You accepted St. Monica’s tears to bring about the conversion of her son St. Augustine. Through their intercession, grant that we may have contrition for our sins and experience the grace of Your pardon. Amen

ST. MONICA, Widow

August 27—Patroness of Mothers and Widows

My Dear Parishioners,

Today marks the 21st Sunday in Ordinary Time. As we gather to celebrate the Eucharist the Scripture texts which are pro-

claimed speak of authority and with authority. In the reading from the Prophet Isaiah we are introduced to Eliakim, the major

domo of the royal palace in Jerusalem. He has been given the authority which was formally held by Shebna who has now been

replaced by Eliakim. As the royal official he is now able to introduce as well as exclude people to the King. His key is able to

lock and unlock the door of the royal presence to those who wish to seek an audience with the king. This authority has been

bestowed upon him by the sovereign who trusts in his ability.

In the Pauline correspondence to the Romans we read that the Lord is God, the One over all the earth to whom glory and maj-

esty belong. The Lord is judge of all the earth whose wisdom is beyond human comprehension. All power and glory are His.

At Caesarea Philippi the Lord Jesus places in the hands of the Apostle Peter “the keys to the kingdom of heaven,” after Peter

professes his faith in Christ the Savior. Peter is the chosen one who is given authority by Christ to lead the Church and to

competently make those decisions which will have not only earthly but also heavenly ramifications.

This authority has not diminished or disappeared over time but rather is very much present in the office of our Holy Father,

the Pope of Rome, and successor of Saint Peter. The Petrine Ministry is what we refer to as the exercise of the authority given

by the Lord Jesus to the Apostle Peter and his successors. This authority is a pastoral ministry which guards the unity, Catho-

licity and Apostolicity of the Universal Church. It is a ministry of service and not of power.

Today’s successor of the Apostle Peter, His Holiness, Pope Francis, is charged with this same ministry, given the same au-

thority to shepherd the Church in this time. Let us remember him in our prayers so that the Lord may give him the wisdom

and the strength to govern the Church with holiness as we journey to the Kingdom of Heaven. May the Holy Spirit guide him

in all his endeavors as he serves the Church with love and selflessness.

May we all enjoy this final week of summer vacation before next week’s observance of Labor Day and the unofficial conclu-

sion to the summer season!
