Since the Passover of the Jews was near, Jesus went up to Jerusalem. He found in the temple area those who sold oxen, sheep, and doves, as well as the money changers seated there. He
made a whip out of cords and drove them all out of the temple area. - John 2:13b-15a

Parish Information
I, the Lord, am your God! During their journey from slavery in Egypt to the Promised Land, Moses received the Ten Commandments from God and presented them to the Israelites. These commandments guided the Israelites in living according to God's plan for mankind. Jesus came to earth and shed His blood to save us from our sins. His love for others was a sharp contrast to the social standards of the day. His example remains a mystery today as societal pressures continue to urge each of us to think of ourselves and not others. Like the peoples in St. Paul's time, Jesus' sacrifice is a stumbling block and foolishness to many. May we faithfully keep the Lord's commandments.

Reflection "While he was in Jerusalem for the feast of Passover, many began to believe in his name when they saw the signs he was doing." How we would love to see those signs! How easy it would be for us to believe if we too could witness Jesus healing the sick, feeding the multitudes, calming the storm. It's tempting to imagine that faith was a simple thing back in those days. We might be inclined to think that we don't have the same benefits as those first believers, and so faith is harder in our day and age. But is it, really?
In truth, we have an advantage that none of those people had: two thousand years of Church history! Two millennia of faithful, prayerful Christians believing in Jesus and spreading the Gospel; the collective
witness of the saints -- many of whom have also worked "signs" in Jesus' name; the effects of the Church on culture and the world through its schools, its hospitals, its spiritual movements, and religious institutions; the unbroken line of apostolic succession that traces back to the time of Christ. Just the fact alone, that the Church is still alive and well, in spite of all of its sinful members ought to be miracle enough for us. But even with all of this testimony, it's important to remember that seeing signs and believing in Jesus are not the same thing. Even those who witnessed Jesus' miracles had to take the next step by choosing to accept him as their Lord. Ultimately, all of these convincing details are not the point. The point is to encounter Jesus on a personal level. The signs may open the door to bring us closer to him, but it's up to us to walk through that door. May we walk so as to come "to believe the Scripture."

School and Youth News BIG IDEA FOR MARCH — PATIENCE! Our Big Idea for the month of March at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic School is Patience, which is perfect for the season of Lent. Lent is 40 days long so we have to be patient as 40 days is a long time. In this day of modern coveniences and technology, we wait for very little, so we literally need to practice patience. Share with your children that good things await for those who are patient. For example, if we can wait out these cold days of winter, we will be rewarded with the warm days of spring. When we learn a new task at home or a new lesson at school, we may not know what to do immediately. We need to be patient and we will master it. If you’re patient with other people, it will win you friends. People like others who are calm and patient. Patience is a virtue so let’s concentrate on practicing patience more this Lent until it becomes a habit.
We would like to thank all of the students who participated in Walk in Sister’s Shoes. We raised $2,480.86 for the St. Katharine Drexel Fund which helps struggling Catholic schools provide a quality education for their students. The last week of February, all classes studied about the Missions and how we can be missionaries right here at home. Students, you were true missionaries with your involvement in Walk In Sister’s Shoes. Because of you, many children will have the opportunity to learn about God, and that’s what being a missionary is all about!
TOTUS TUUS AT ST. CATHERINE OF SIENA
Totus Tuus (Totally Yours) is a week-long summer program to inspire in our parish youth a true longing for holiness. A volunteer is needed immediately to start working with the current Totus Tuus coordinator on the 2015 program and become the successor coordinator for the 2016 program. Some of the coordinator responsibilities include program communications, finding host families for the college-aged team members and parish volunteers. If interested, please contact Ken and Jona Rohling: 721-9293.

Who invented the Stations of the Cross?
The first Stations of the Cross were walked by Jesus himself on the way to Calvary. Known as the "Via Dolorosa" ("The Way of Suffering") or the "Via Crucis" ("The Way of the Cross"), it was marked out from the earliest times and was a traditional walk for pilgrims who came to Jerusalem. The early Christians in Jerusalem would walk the same pathway that Jesus walked, pausing for reflection and prayer. Later, when Christians could not travel to the Holy Land, artistic depictions of "The Way of the Cross" were set up in churches, or outside and Christians would walk from station to station, reading the Gospel account of the Passion, or simply praying and reflecting on each event. While the content or place of each station had changed, the intention was to make a mini-pilgrimage and follow -- literally -- in the footsteps of Jesus. This devotion became better known in the Middle Ages, and the Franciscans are credited with its spread. Lent is a time when many people make the Stations and some churches present Passion plays or Living Stations. But anyone can pray the Stations at any time. It is a simple and personal reflection on the passion of Jesus and what it means to us.
