Saronic & Argolic Gulf / Eastern PeloponneseThe Saronic Gulf is the most famous sailing and charter area in Greece due to its proximity to Athens (southwest of Athens). Following the Saronic trail to Aegina, Hydra, Poros and Spetses you can feel the beauty of these picturesque islands. For a quiet destination you can also sail from Aegina to Dokos, an uninhabited place which will offer you unforgettable moments.A second excellent sailing area is the Argolic Gulf from where you can visit the historical cities of Monemvasia and Nafplio –the first capital of Greece, an old city with neoclassic houses- and the ports of Leonidio, Kiparissi and Porto Heli.Saronic Gulf and the eastern Peloponnese are much less affected by the strong winds of the Aegean Sea, usually you don’t even feel the Meltemi wind (north east, around 4 Beaufort). At the east coast of the Peloponnese however some unexpected gusts may occur sometimes from 6 to 7 Beaufort.

The Ionian SeaThe Ionian Islands - also known in Greece as the 'Eptanisa' (Seven Islands) - are seven main islands located on the western side of mainland Greece. This group of islands includes many smaller islands, but the basic ones are the following: Corfu, Paxoi/Antipaxoi, Lefkas, Ithaca, Kefalonia, Zakynthos (Zante), islands which are off the west coast of Greece in the Ionian Sea. The seventh island, Kythira, is off the southern tip of the Peloponnese, the southern part of the Greek mainland and is included in the region of Attica.Ionian is not the Greece of the popular travel brochure but a shaded green country, sheltering red tiled Latin houses, an eccentric collection of Italian and French architecture and English tastes. The wind and sailing conditions in the Ionian Sea are ideal and predictable. From May to September the wind blows from North-West at Force 2-5. In Spring and Autumn the wind is less strong and blows usually from South-West. It arrives around noon, blows between force 3 to 6 (10 to 25 knots) and dies down at sunset. There may be strong gusts on the leeward side due to the high land (e.g Eastern side of Ithaka and Zakinthos).

The Dodecanese which means ' the Twelve Islands' in Greek are located East of the
Cyclades, West of the Turkish coast. They are a group of 12 larger islands (Tilos, Symi, Samos, Rhodos, Patmos, Nissiros, Leros, Lipsi, Arkii &
Fourni, Kos, Kastelorizo, Karpathos & Kasos, Kalymnos, Ikaria, Astypalea) plus 150 smaller in the Aegean Sea, of which 26 are inhabited. They
have a rich history, and many of even the smallest inhabited islands boast dozens of
Byzantine churches and medieval castles. The largest island is Rhodes, which is also the most
popular tourist destination because the sun is shining 300 days annually and offers endless beaches for travelers. Kos is the second most
popular island which is near to the Turkish peninsula of Bodrum. There are several unspoilt
villages and great anchorage places. In the summer months (June to September inclusive),
the prevailing wind is the "Meltemi" coming from the NW-W like in the Cyclades islands and the
open Aegean Sea. It begins to blow in mid June, powers-up from end July to early September
and weakens off in October. The usual force of the North winds is 4-6 in Beaufort scale and
may on occasion reach force 7 or more rarely 8.

Aegean Sea
The Northern Sporades are an archipelago along the east coast of Greece,
northeast of the island of Evia, in the Aegean Sea. They consist of 24 islands and the term
‘’Sporades’’ refers mainly to these islands: Skopelos, Skyros, Alonnisos, Skiathos, Kyra
Panagia, Peristera, Gioura, Skantzoura, Piperi, Tsougria. They are found not only in the bigger
and smaller islands, but in the North coast of Evia as well and inside the Pagassitikos Gulf
(Volos) and the East coast of Thessaly mainland. The first four islands (Skopelos, Skyros,
Alonisos and Skiathos) are the greenest islands in Greece and have the most beautiful beaches
(such as Koukounaries and Lalaria in Skiathos), as well as many bays, scenic coves and bright
white churches. The wind's force in Beaufort scale is 3-5 and may rarely reach Force 7.
As it happens in the open Aegean Sea winds begin in late June, blow stronger in July and
August, and fade out in the middle of September. On the other hand, a kind of
"funnelled" East winds at the channels of Trikeri and Orei (SW of Skiathos isle close to the N part of Evia) shall be taken into consideration. Inside the gulf of Volos (Pagasitikos Gulf), the "rule" is
NW winds at Force 2

The CycladesThe Cyclades (from the Greek word for 'rings' or 'circles') is the central group of islands in the Aegean, so named because of the way they seem to surround Delos, the ancient centre of trade and worship. This group of islands offers a landscape of naked rocks, white washed houses against crystal-clear water and a bright sky.Sailing in Cyclades you can visit the following main areas: Kea, Kithnos, Syros, Andros, Tinos, Mykonos, Delos and Rinia (Nothern Cyclades), Serifos, Sifnos, Antiparos, Paros, Naxos (Middle Cyclades), Donoussa, Iraklia, Schinousa, Koufonissia, Amorgos and Levitha (Small Cyclades) and Milos, Kimolos, Folegandros, Sikinos, Ios, Thira (Santorini) and Anafi (Southern Cyclades). The prevailing wind in the summer is the "Meltemi", which blows from the North / North West. It begins in June, blows stronger in July and August at Force 5-6 in Beaufort scale and may occasionally reach Force 8-9. It may blow for 1-3 days or it may sometimes blow for 2 weeks at a time.
