SPIRITUAL COMMUNION PRAYER My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the most Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all things and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there, and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

We are a community that comes together to model Jesus to all peoples by addressing physical concerns and spiritual matters, and to do as Jesus did, giving everything to bring people into a closer relationship with God, in celebration.

From Fr. Emmanuel’s desk: Many families are ill to respond to the multiple challenges of a family member’s diagnosis of mental illness. Behaviors can be misinterpreted, and finding effective resources and medical interventions may prove overwhelming. The strain on the family can be significant. The stigma that often accompanies this illness may cause families to be hesitant to share their need for support during this difficult time.

How can our parish be of support to families with this need?

FEAST OF FAITH Come, Spirit! The presider at the Eucharist can choose from among a number of different Eucharis c Prayers, all of which follow a similar pa ern. Almost always, they begin with an epiclesis, a Greek word that means “invoca on upon” or “calling over here.” At this moment in the prayer, the priest calls down the Holy Spirit upon the gi s of bread and wine that we have brought to the altar: “Father, we bring you these gi s. We ask you to make them holy by the power of your Spirit, that they may become the body and blood of your Son” (Eucharis c Prayer III). The words of the prayer are accompanied by the ritual gesture of the laying on of hands, the ancient sign of the gi of the Spirit, which is also used in most sacramental celebra ons, from the rite of confirma on to the ordina on of deacons, priests, and bishops. Liturgists some mes call this first epiclesis the epiclesis of consecra on. Later in the Eucharis c Prayer, there will be another epiclesis, the epiclesis of communion, as the priest asks that the Holy Spirit be sent upon us to transform us. “Grant that we, who are nourished by his body and blood, may be filled with his Holy Spirit, and become one body, one spirit in Christ” (Eucharis c Prayer III).
