SACRED HEART PARISH IS SEEKING A DIRECTOR OF MUSIC

Sacred Heart Catholic Church has an opening for a full-time Director of Music. The successful applicant will work as a vital

part of the parish staff team to bring the parish vision of ‘Inviting Everyone to Passionately Live the Gospel’ to

realization, specifically through the work of sacred music. Tasks include coordinating music to enhance the liturgical

services of the parish, including selecting music, playing the organ and piano for liturgies, directing choirs, coordinating

cantors and accompanists, and maintaining the pipe organ and piano. A full job description can be found

at sacredheartaberdeen.net/employment-opportunities. Interested candidates are asked to send a copy of their resume

and an accompanying cover letter to Fr. Mark Lichter, Pastor of Sacred Heart, at [email protected], or by mail to

502 2nd Ave SE Aberdeen, SD 57401.

The Solemnity of the Presentation of the Lord falls on this weekend. This does not happen too often and is a wonderful way for the whole parish to cele-brate Mary and Joseph taking the child Jesus back to the temple. In doing so Mary and Joseph are following the custom and the law of presenting their new born back to God in thanksgiving. This is different however, in that Jesus is the new born Savior of the world. Jesus, the King of Glory, yet like us in all things, comes to his temple to be a light for all the nations. This feast originated in 4th century in Jerusalem and came to be celebrated in Rome by the middle of the 5th century under its Greek title “Feast of the Meeting”; known also as Candlemas Day. On this day it is appropriate to bless the candles we use in the church during the year. Jesus is the light of the world and the one we follow to light up our way. Next weekend we begin Catholic Family Sharing Appeal for 2020. Time move along and we all know this is coming each year and we appreciate your generosity. Your gift will help each of the diocesan ministries reach out to thousand, including training our future priests, proclaiming Christ’s message through the media, providing counsel to the hurting and reaching out to our youth. Sacred Heart Parish gets back a hundred fold in the gift you give. There is not a day that goes by that we are not assisted by our diocese. Last year our goal was $118,500 and in your generosity we went over our goal to the tune of over $140,000. We accomplished this by a family participation of only 33%. We can do better in participation! Thank you! This year our goal is 122,000 which is a little over a 2% increase which is reasonable. We are looking for 100% partic-ipation and remember the overage from our goal will stay with the par ish. Last years overage was ear-marked for the stain glass window restoration. This years overage will also go to the stain glass restoration. If you are unable to participate we ask you to send your pledge card in with a prayer request. The Bishop will be sending you a letter asking for your gift the week after kick-off Sunday. Again, I am overwhelmed by your great generosity and especially from those who participate! Can you imagine………..? God bless you! Fr. Mark

From the Pastor

Sacrificial Giving and some thoughts….. .Jesus is presented in the temple by Mary and Joseph

in today’s liturgy. In a spirit of gratitude, we place our gifts before the Lord in the form of time, talent, and treasure. Each time we come to the table of our Lord, we should present our very lives on the altar of sacri-fice and thank God because all we have is a gift from God. Remember your life is not your own!
