2. FIRE SAFETY DURING ALTERATION:

16.4.4.1 WHERE THE BUILDING IS PROTECTED BYFIRE PROTECTION SYSTEMS, SUCH SYSTEMS SHALLBE MAINTAINED OPERATIONAL AT ALL TIMES DURINGALTERATION.

16.4.4.2 WHERE ALTERATION REQUIRES MODIFICATIONOF A PORTION OF THE FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEM,THE REMAINDER OF THE SYSTEM SHALL BE KEPT INSERVICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENT SHALL BE NOTIFIED.

16.4.4.3 WHEN IT IS NECESSARY TO SHUT DOWNTHE SYSTEM, THE AUTHORITY HAVING JURISDICTION(AHJ) SHALL HAVE THE AUTHORITY TO REQUIREALTERNATE MEASURES OF PROTECTION UNTIL THESYSTEM IS RETURNED TO SERVICE.

10.8.1.1 AS NECESSARY DURING EMERGENCIES,MAINTENANCE, DRILLS, PRESCRIBED TESTING,ALTERATIONS, OR RENOVATIONS, PORTABLE ORFIXED FIRE-EXTINGUISHING SYSTEMS OR DEVICES ORANY FIRE-WARINING SYSTEM SHALL BE PERMITTEDTO BE MADE INOPERATIVE OR INACCESSIBLE. AFIRE WATCH SHALL BE REQUIRED AS SPECIFIED INSECTIONS 13.3.4.3.5.2(3), 13.7.1.4.4, 16.5.4,20.2.3.6, 34.6.3.3, 41.2.2.5, 41.2.2.6, 41.2.4, 41.3.4,41.4.1, 34.5.4.3, AND 25.1.8 AT NO COST TO THEAHJ. NFPA 1 2006, AS AMENDED.

3. AHJ APPROVAL:

13.1.1 THE AHJ SHALL HAVE THE AUTHORITY TO REQUIRETHAT CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS FOR ALL FIRE PROTECTIONSYSTEMS BE SUBMITTED FOR REVIEW AND APPROVAL AND APERMIT BE ISSUED PRIOR TO THE INSTALLATION,REHABILITATION, OR MODIFICATIONS. FURTHER, THE AHJSHALL HAVE THE AUTHORITY TO REQUIRE THAT FULLACCEPTANCE TESTS OF THE SYSTEMS BE PREFORMED INTHE AHJ'S PRESENCE PRIOR TO FINAL SYSTEM CERTIFICATION.FIRE ALARM SYSTEMS; FIRE HYDRANT SYSTEMS;FIR-EXTINGUISHING SYSTEMS; STANDPIPES; AND OTHERFIRE-PROTECTION SYSTEMS AND APPURTENANCES REQUIREDBY THIS CODE SHALL BE APPROVED BY THE AHJ AS TOINSTALLATION AND LOCATION AND SHALL BE SUBJECT TOACCEPTANCE TESTS REQUIRED BY THE APPROPRIATECOUNTY AGENCY. NFPA 1, CHAPTER 13 AS AMENDED.

4. DETECTION, ALARM, AND COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEMS:

13.7.1.1 WHERE BUILDING FIRE ALARM SYSTEMS ORAUTOMATIC FIRE DETECTORS ARE REQUIRED BY OTHERSECTIONS OF THIS CODE, THEY SHALL BE PROVIDED ANDINSTALLED IN ACCORDANCE WITH NFPA 70, NFPA 72,NATIONAL FIRE ALARM CODE, AND SECTION 13.7. 2006 NFPA1.FIRE ALARM SYSTEM INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE SHALLBE IN ACCORDANCE WITH NFPA 72, NATIONAL FIRE ALARMCODE, AND 2006 NFPA 1.

13.7.1.4.9.8 AUDIBILITY. THE ALARM SIGNAL SHALL BE ADISTINCTIVE SOUND, WHICH IS NOT USED FOR ANY OTHERPURPOSE OTHER THAN THE FIRE ALARM. ALARM-SIGNALINGDEVICES SHALL PRODUCE A SOUND THAT EXCEEDS THEPREVAILING EQUIVALENT SOUND LEVEL IN THE ROOM ORSPACE BY 15 DECIBELS MINIMUM, OR EXCEEDS ANYMAXIMUM SOUND LEVEL WITH A DURATION OF 60 SECONDSMINIMUM BY 5 DECIBELS MINIMUM, WHICHEVER IS LOUDER.SOUND LEVELS FOR ALARM SIGNALS SHALL BE 120 DECIBELSMAXIMUM. 2006 NFPA 1 AS AMENDED.

13.7.3.2.1 APPROVAL AND ACCEPTANCE:

13.7.3.2.1.2 BEFORE REQUESTING FINAL APPROVAL OF THEINSTALLATION, IF REQUIRED BY THE AHJ, THE INSTALLINGCONTRACTOR SHALL FURNISH A WRITTEN STATEMENTSTATING THAT THE SYSTEM HAS BEEN INSTALLED INACCORDANCE WITH APPROVED PLANS AND TESTED INACCORDANCE WITH THE MANUFACTURER'S SPECIFICATIONSAND APPROPRIATE NFPA REQUIREMENTS. [72:4.5.1.2].

13.7.3.2.1.3 THE RECORD OF COMPLETION FORM, FIGURE4.5.2.1 OF NFPA 72, SHALL BE PERMITTED TO BE PART OFTHE WRITTEN STATEMENT REQUIRED IN 13.7.3.2.1.2. WHENMORE THAN ONE CONTRACTOR HAS BEEN RESPONSIBLE FORTHE INSTALLATION, EACH CONTRACTOR SHALL COMPLETETHE PORTIONS OF THE FORM FOR WHICH THAT CONTRACTORHAD RESPONSIBILITY.

13.7.3.2.1.4 THE RECORD OF COMPLETION FORM, FIGURE4.5.2.1 OF NFPA 72, SHALL BE PERMITTED TO BE A PARTOF THE DOCUMENTS THAT SUPPORT THE REQUIREMENTS OF13.7.3.2.1.3. 2006 NFPA 1.

ENSURE AUDIBILITY IS MET THROUGH ALL OCCUPIABLEAREAS AND SPACES. THIS WILL BE THOROUGHLY CHECKEDAT TIME OF THE ALARM ACCEPTANCE TEST.

5. MANUAL FIRE ALARM BOXES:

13.7.1.4.7.3 A MANUAL FIRE ALARM BOX SHALL BEPROVIDED IN THE NATURAL EXIT ACCESS PATH NEAR EACHREQUIRED EXIT FROM AN AREA, UNLESS MODIFIED BYANOTHER SECTION OF THIS CODE.

13.7.1.4.7.4 ADDITIONAL MANUAL FIRE ALARM BOXES SHALLBE LOCATED SO THAT, ON ANY GIVEN FLOOR IN ANY PARTOF THE BUILDING, NO HORIZONTAL DISTANCE ON THATFLOOR EXCEEDING 200 FT (6O M) SHALL NEED TO BETRAVERSED TO REACH A MANUAL FIRE ALARM BOX [9.6.2.4].

13.7.3.3.6 MANUAL FIRE ALARM BOXES SHALL BELOCATED WITHIN 5 FT (1.5 M) OF THE EXITDOORWAY OPENING AT EACH EXIT ON EACH FLOOR.THE LOCATION OF MANUAL FIRE ALARM BOXES MAYBE MODIFIED BY THE AHJ. 2006 NFPA 1 ASAMENDED.

6. PORTABLE FIRE EXTINGUISHERS:

13.6.1 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:13.6.1.1 THE INSTALLATION, MAINTENANCE,SELECTION, AND DISTRIBUTION OF PORTABLE FIREEXTINGUISHERS SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITHNFPA 10, STANDARD FOR PORTABLE FIREEXTINGUISHERS, AND SECTION 13.6. 2006 NFPA 1.
