Letter From the Alpha Greetings Brethren, My name is Billy Moy, I’m a senior sociology major and I’m proud to be the 110th (rough guess) President of Phi Kappa Chi. There are many exciting things that have been happening since I have become a Phi Kap back in the spring of 2009 and the excitement just keeps grow-ing and growing. When I joined Phi Kap a little over 2 years ago we were a tight brotherhood of a little under 20 people. Today, Phi Kap is still just as tight as ever but we have now been able to expand to 28 brothers total. Even though we have had to deal with restrictions from the school we have been able to expand

successfully because we run an efficacious rush program. All 28 of our current brothers bring something productive and unique to the table and together we are restoring Phi Kappa Chi as a dominant force on the Geneseo Campus. In the past few years we have done things such as work with the Geneseo Garden-ing Club to decorating Main Street for Christmas, we have been the only fraternity on cam-pus to participate in Geneseo’s annual Kidney walk, we have worked to raise money for the Ghana Project, we actively par-ticipate every year in Relay for Life and we are aspiring this semester to add an additional Philanthropy project that we can

call Phi Kap’s own. This fall on the weekend of September 23-24 we are hosting an alumni pig roast and I speak for everybody when I say I hope to see as many alumni there as possible. All of us are excited to meet Prome-thean’s from the past and to show them the direction that Phi Kappa Chi is headed for the future. If anybody has any ques-tions about anything Phi Kap related please feel free to email me at [email protected]. I look forward to talking to and hope-fully meeting many of you this fall. clothing sectors with assets primarily located in two companies, USA technolo-gies inc. and Horiyoshi Worldwide. USA technolo-gies inc. specializes in pro-viding technology-enabled solutions that facilitate electronic payment transac-tions and value-added ser-vices within the unattended Point of Sale (POS) market. Hiroyshi Worldwide is a

luxury clothing and acces-sories designer and is spreading quickly having already been prominently featured in a number of top fashion magazines. We hope to build on this fund and get more contribution in the future via fraternity dues and possible alumni donation.

This semester the brothers of Phi Kappa Chi created the fraternity’s first ever investment portfolio. The $500 start up fund was de-signed to allow those broth-ers majoring in business to get real world experience with the financial markets and serve as a way for the fraternity to raise funds. Currently, the fund focuses on the technology and

Sustainability Initiative In an effort to promote environmental awareness, the brothers of Phi Kappa Chi be-gan a culture of recycling this semester. By teaming with the Geneseo Geo club, the fraternity acquired bins and recycled waste after parties and other events. In doing so, Phi Kappa Chi has set a benchmark in terms of sustainability practices within the SUNY Geneseo Greek community. We hope to build on this initiative and get more Greek organizations involved in recycling during the 2011-2012 academic year.

of experience under their belts. In regards to the investment fund, we hope to continue with our early successes and inject another $300, derived from fraternity dues, in order to bolster our future earn-ings. On the sustainability front, the Phi Kaps will continue to be a leader in waste management in the Greek community and promote their sustainability ideas to other organizations. Other things on the fraternity’s radar include a formal weekend at the Turning Stone Re-sort and Casino in Syracuse, lower dues, and the continued search for a permanent fraternity house in the Geneseo community.

The 2011-2012 academic year looks to be a promising one on a number of levels for the frater-nity. During the 2011-2012 aca-demic year, the brothers of Phi Kappa Chi will adopt a philan-thropic event of their own and hope that it will be an annual event that the community looks forward to for many years to come. In terms of intramural sports, the Phi Kap teams will have the talent needed to capture a number of titles. The flag foot-ball, soccer, dodgeball, basket-ball, and softball teams, which were serious title contenders this previous year, remain largely intact and will have another year
