In today’s second reading, Paul tells the Corinthians, “I resolved to know nothing
while I was with you except Jesus Christ…so that your faith might rest not on
human wisdom but on the power of God.” We all can know the difference
between divine and human wisdom if we are engaged in constantly growing in
our faith. Being intentional and proactive about our faith development is a core
goal of the Uniting in Heart 2030 Pastoral Plan, starting with us priests. To that end,
a job description of a Missionary Pastor was recently developed to give more
details about what is expected of those leading our pastorates moving forward,
including the following aspects of the priest as a disciple himself:
Openness to lifelong learning
Daily reading of theology, other topics, and current events
Seeking grace and growing closer to Christ.
Being a person of prayer.
Docility to the Spirit in listening to God’s will
Seeks unity and communion with his fellow priests.
If you change the last item to “fellow Catholics,” then these points are also a
good job description for anyone wanting to be faithful disciple. When we strive to
“know nothing…except Jesus Christ,” then together we can distinguish human
wisdom from the power of God. And when we know this distinction more clearly,
then we can more boldly share Christ with others in the spirit of today’s gospel
where “your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds
and glorify your heavenly Father.”

En la segunda lectura de hoy, Pablo les dice a los corintios: "Sino que resolví no
hablarles sino de Jesucristo ... de que la fe de ustedes dependiera del poder de

entre sabiduría divina y humana si estamos comprometidos en crecer

LENTEN SIMPLE SUPPER
Make fellowship with other parishioners a part of your Lent this year by coming to a
Simple Supper offered each Friday of Lent at 5:30pm in the Parish Hall, with plenty
of time to attend Stations of the Cross afterwards. Contact the Parish Office if you
wish to volunteer to prepare one of the meals.
