FINANCIAL STEWARDSHIP
Last Weekend’s Regular Collection
Rochester - $1,860
Monterey - $950
Kewanna - $60
From Father Mike
The last two weeks I have been talking in this column about the Uniting in Heart 2030
Pastoral Plan. My focus has been on the changes in the assignment of priests. Many
are also focused on the structural changes that will come about through the grouping
of parishes into pastorates, including ours here that will involve the parishes in not just
Kewanna, Monterey, and Rochester but Francisville, Pulaski, and Winamac. But I find it
helpful to be constantly reminded that the real drive of this plan is to bring others to
Christ for the salvation of souls, and to do this guided by the Holy Spirit.
Change is difficult. A plan that tries to be proactive, especially when everything
seems to be going well, can be even harder to accept. More difficult still is the change
that involves loss or other types of pain. And even if we believe that the change is from
Jesus himself, the same Jesus who modeled for us how transformation occurs through a
process of dying and rising, we still have difficulties with change regardless of who is
causing it.
What no one realized in March, as the first major changes of Uniting in Heart began
to be announced, is that our lives would be radically altered by the coronavirus. I see
now that we are much better able to handle the disruption of the pandemic because
we have begun to put into place teams of ministry and adapted forms of
administration that will make us more effective in our capacity to evangelize. Now we
can livestream Mass and share more information on social media, and so we are much
more able to communicate to parishioners and reach out to our wider community.
Some may question if it is a good idea for us priests to get moved on August 19, the
new date the bishop announced this week. I agree with the bishop that there is no
right or wrong answer as to when we should move, especially when we accept the
fact that it is most likely our parish life will not be back to normal for several months.
From a faith perspective, I do believe that we need to move forward with all the
components of this plan, including the transfer of priests, because we have to have
faith that the Holy Spirit is the one ultimately in charge.
Today’s gospel reminds us that everything we do is ultimately about following Jesus,
who is easy to trust because he is, after all, the Good Shepherd: “…as the shepherd
calls his own sheep by name…he walks ahead of them, and the sheep follow him,
because they recognize his voice…” (John 10:3-4)
(Juan 10:3-4)

ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION
My Jesus, I believe that You are
present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I
love You above all things, and I desire
to receive You into my soul. Since I
cannot at this moment receive You
sacramentally, come at least spiritually
into my heart. I embrace You as if You
were already there and unite myself
wholly to You. Never permit me to be
s e p a r a t e d f r o m Y o u .
Amen.
ACTO DE COMUNION ESPIRITUAL
Creo Señor mío que éstas realmente
presente en el Santísimo Sacramento
del altar. Te amo sobre todas las cosas
y deseo ardientemente recibirte
dentro de mi alma; pero, no pudiendo
hacerlo ahora sacramentalmente, ven
Amen.
NEW CLERGY TRANSFER DATE
Excerpt from Bishop Doherty’s letter of April 27: “After consultation, we have
decided to postpone our original Uniting in Heart clergy transfer date that was
scheduled for June 29, 2020. We don’t know what the next few weeks will bring
but I would like to try to provide an opportunity for your parish families to see one
another again, to celebrate the sacraments together and to have a proper send-
off before our changes. With this in mind, Wednesday, August 19, 2020 will be the
‘moving day.’”
