SHIPWRECK INFORMATION:

The ship was built in 1940 and worked as a cruise liner until 1993

It was going to Thailand to be re-fitted as a five star hotel in 1994

The S.S. American Star was being towed when it was caught in a thunderstorm and snapped in two

The wreck was left on a beach near Fuerteventura The stern sank in 1996 It finally sank in 2008, but about 15-20 feet of the

bow is still above water Many of the fittings were stripped and are now in

bars on the island
