We have enjoyed the Branch trip to Scotland thanks must go to Jill for all her hard work on that, ably abetted by Sandie. We have had a good winter season, especially with the new class in Euxton. We now look forward to the summer season of social dancing. From May it will be easy social dancing on a Monday led mostly by Michael Stephen and Joan. On Wednesdays the social dancing will be led by Branch members and invited leaders from all over the north west. It is good to have this variety and it gives our regular teachers a bit of break. Please encourage people to come to our evenings over the summer, especially if their club does not dance all year. Wednesdays will once again continue throughout the summer but the final Monday night will be on 8 August just before the ball. We thought we would finish the season with a Jacobs join on that night everyone welcome. The AGM is fast approaching, along with the Members forum. The members forum is a time for you to give your opinions on branch maters and for the committee to ask you opinion on things. Two topics I will be bringing forward are the Day School and the Hall for our main events. The Day School on 24 th September with the opening of the season dance are early in the Dancing Calendar. Please make a note of the date and join us for a good day’s dancing (or any part of the day.) Wishing you all a restful and enjoyable summer. Living in the north of England about 100 miles from the border, access is fairly easy. This April we went to Blairgowrie, near Perth. The coach journey passes quickly because we are served refreshments by 2 of our members who were dressed up in care assistant uniforms. Several of our members had prepared quizzes on themes such as islands, statues in the UK, music of the 50s and 60s. Etc. We also call at various places on the journey, such as Hawick, which has tweed and cashmere shops along with walks along the river Teviot. Arriving in Blairgowrie we soon settle in and have dinner followed by a casual dance. Saturday saw us off to Kirriemuir and the Camera Obscura and J M Barrie’s birthplace. Saturday evening saw us attending a dance put on by Ericht Scottish Country Dance Club with music by Jim Lindsay. A Wonderful Night. On Sunday we travelled to Scone Palace to see the place where Scottish kings were crowned and the bedroom specially built for Queen Victoria’s one night stay. On to Stanley Mill, an old cotton mill, which has excellent interactive displays. To finish the day we had a ceilidh which included a couple of dance demonstrations, folk music, a potted panto and general dancing. Another excellent evening. The trip is not over although we leave Blairgowrie. Deep- sea world and a visit to Miniature world at Carlisle all complete our trip along with more quizzes. An excellent but exhausting weekend. So something for everyone!

A brilliant day to look forward to.

The Sunday Class This was set up as an experiment to attract new people to

our kind of dancing. It started as a 7 week block for £10.

Nine of the original taster group are still with us and four of

those regularly attend Monday nights and another attends

occasionally. The taster session has morphed into a new class on Sunday

afternoons especially for beginners. We have now finished for the summer.

We met 22 times over the winter and seem to have someone new each

week! Which makes progress on the slow side. We have all had fun.

A total of 44 people have experienced Scottish Country Dancing through

this class. 23 have passed through for various reason – 2 attend Formby

group now. 21 are still dancing within the Branch! And that does not include

members of the committee who have helped out or joined us for the Jacobs

Joins.

Thanks must go to Jean and David who have covered for me when I have

been on holiday, and John who has supported me throughout.

The Sunday Class recommences on 18th September at 2:30pm. Spread the

word, please. New people welcome! No partner needed. Joan
