our location as we move to the new College and Career Academy building for our weekly meetings. Ryran's leadership team takes up the reins to a club with momentum, energy, and passion. We expect a bright future as we all “Light Up Rotary” this year!

Member Spot Light I am Debra Adamson and have been married to Bill for thepast 15 years. I have been the owner, operator of SlicesPizzeria in Downtown Barnesville for the last five years. Weare currently buying a home here in Barnesville where wehave lived for the last three and half years. I am a 2014graduate of Gordon State College and am returning there thisfall to further my education. I have one son Chris who is 28,and a granddaughter who is 9 and three fur babies. I wasraised in Miami, FL but have been in GA for the last 19 years.I am a Leadership Lamar grad, former Career Women of theYear winner, and a strong supporter of our youth and ourcommunity. I am currently involved with Darkness to Light-Stewards of Children training, and anything else I have timefor. I have been involved in Rotary now for the last threeyears and love every moment of it. I am a Rotary InternationalGraduate and a Paul Harris Fellow. Once I finish with myeducation. I plan to serve on whatever Rotary will have medo. Debbie Adamson

Member Spot Light My name is Danny O. Gunter, I was born and reared in Atlanta, graduated high school at 17 and enlisted in the Navy.I worked my way up through the enlisted ranks to Warrant in 8 and 1/2 years; from Warrant to Commissioned Officer in 5 years; retired as a Commander after 30 and 1/2 years of total service. Most of my service was on or in support of submarines as a Nuclear Power Specialist. Upon retirement in 1993 we moved to Lamar County next door to my parents who had moved out of the Atlanta area. I then went back to school to get my MBA. I started working for Lamar County as the Zoning Administrator and Building Inspector in December 1999. Through this job I met many local community leaders and was invited by Floyd Moye to come to Rotary about eight years ago. As soon as I joined, Floyd immediately turned overthe Program Coordinator job to me. (Maybe he had an ulteriormotive for inviting me.)

My wife, Maria (Lynn) is a Filipina. I had two children and she had three when we married, so together we have five children (all grown and married), eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. My wife is an Interior Designer and operates her business out of Macon. We have been members of Barnesville First Baptist Church since 1993 where I have been theteacher of an Adult-Couples Sunday School Class for twenty years. The Bible tells us that God is no respecter of persons; i.e, He treats all (the great and small)alike. That is the one thing I would want people to remember me by; that all who did business with my office were treated fairly and with respect, no matter their social or financial standing.

President's MessageMy Rotary Family, The year has begun with a bang. Although for many, the bang may have been on Friday, July 4th fireworks illuminating the sky. The bang that Iam hearing is that of an Olympic starting gun letting its participants knowthat the race has begun. I am privileged and honored to be representingour club in this leg of the race. We have had some extraordinary leaderscarry the baton. Past President Andy Bush and his board are passing thatbaton after making some remarkable strides. I would like to personallythank him and his board for their leadership and dedication. For as manyof you know, he is just now starting to catch his breath. Although at times, this race may seemas though it is following the path of an oval track, we all know that many times we may be completely cross country making a path through uncharted ground with obstacles in our way. This year will be no different, we will have our obstacles and we will be defined by how well we cross them as a collective club. As stated at the dinner, it is with great pleasure and enthusiasm that I accept this role and will do my best to help ensure we continue this upward momentum to demonstrate “Service above Self’. This will be accomplished through the support of our dynamic Board of Directors for they too, are eager to “Light up Rotary”. On behalf of our Board, I pledge to each of you, the members of my club, our full cooperation. In turn, we ask for your support, help, loyalty, attendance at club meetings and participation in club fundraising and community service initiatives. In the upcoming year, we will join with “Mission Possible” and DG Alicia Michael on her proclamation to assist our district in changing the lives of others. Alicia has challenged clubs in our district to not only be financial supporters, but to roll up our sleeves and jump into the trenches and that is thepart that I find most exciting. As I stated at the installation, when Dr. Lee Woodall invited meto the first meeting in 1997, I was young, single, full of energy, and ready to conquer the world. But now that I’m older and married, I am ready to change the world for my kids and your kids; and others within our reach. Wow, life changes, but together we will be able to change lives. Let us put our words into actions and prove once again, that the Barnesville Rotary Club is a progressive force in our community. Let us share our time, talent and energy in the coming year, defining how we will be remembered; living our commitments and “Playing every play, every day” to the best ofour abilities. Again, I am grateful to each of you for this tremendous honor and I look forward to us working together to “Light up Rotary” in a way that will honor our families, our Founders, our community and our club. Together, we will continue planting good seeds that produce new trees to shade the generations yet to come!

President, Rotary Club of Barnesville
