he author of 40 sports books, Ross Bernstein is a sought after motivational speaker who specializes in the teachings of legendary coach Herb Brooks and the fabled 1980 gold medal-winning U.S. Olympic “Miracle on Ice” hockey team which will forever live on as one of the most inspirational moments in sports history. Ross, who had actually been working with Brooks on writing a series of motivational/self-help books at the time of his tragic passing in the Summer of 2003, decided to honor his friend and mentor by turning their project into a living memorial. The result was the nationally critically acclaimed book entitled: “America’s Coach,” which now serves as the compan- ion piece to his hour-long program. It is a heart-warming motivational-biog- raphy that chronicles the secrets of Brooks’ success while celebrating the legacy of a true American hero. Herb Brooks was an innovator who wasn’t afraid to try things that were completely revolutionary and even controversial. He demanded excellence from everybody around him and earned their respect through leading by example. In fact, looking back at famed TV announcer Al Michaels’ noto- rious last-second call from the 1980 Olympic semifinal game against the vaunted Soviets, “Do You Believe in Miracles?... Yes!” — one can only assume that Brooks probably didn’t. Sure, he was a dreamer, but there were no short-cuts or divine interventions in his vocabulary, he was all about hard work, commitment and passion. Brooks was a winner in every sense of the word and the culture he created with his teams consis- tently delivered winning results, that was the bottom line. He was the ultimate team player who lived by the adage that the name on the front of the jersey was always more important than the name on the back — a message any company or organization, big or small, could be proud of. Today, Ross is extremely proud and honored to be able to share his story with others who, like Brooks, aspire to achieve success in whatever they do in life. Wanting to keep his legacy burning bright- ly, Ross now speaks about the influence Brooks had on the world of sports; his unorthodox leadership style; how he was able to adapt to change in different environments; how he fostered team chemistry and cultivated winning attitudes; how he got the most out of his players; and about his unparalleled motiva- tional tactics. Putting many of the life-lessons and ideologies he learned from the fiery coach into a prac- tical business application, Ross’ interactive, entertaining and thought-provoking presentation aims to inspire others to follow their dreams and maybe, just maybe, even inspire them to create their own mir- acles. If you've got any sports fans in your group, or if you got goose bumps watching the Disney movie “Miracle,” which starred Kurt Russell as Brooks, then Ross’ program is truly a must-see. “Ross presented to roughly 500 of our executives at our annual leadership conference in Chicago. From myfirst conversation with Ross, he was very passionate about helping us build our own ‘gold medal’ winningteam. Prior to presenting at the meeting, he went above and beyond to do a tremendous amount ofresearch and interviewing to truly understand our company, our culture and our priorities. Theinsights he gained allowed him to tailor his messages, rhetoric and stories to our team. Ross is a hum-ble, yet very energetic speaker. He brought Herbie’s story and lessons to life by sharing various sto-ries, quotes and anecdotes from this remarkable coach, mentor and leader.”— Mary Bartlett, Director of Operations, Accenture

“We were lucky enough to get Ross to speak at our annual sales recognition dinner. His presenta-tion about Herb Brooks and the ‘Miracle on Ice’ was a huge hit and really resonated with our salesteam. Whether you are a hockey fan or not, you can’t help but get inspired by listening to Ross talkabout Herb’s amazing leadership and team-building skills. What a fascinating story. Our group real-ly enjoyed his hour long presentation and found it to be not only funny and interesting, but alsoextremely motivating. As a company that deals with technology and customer service, we are alwayslooking for new and better ways of doing things. Ross really connected with our people and got their atten-tion. His program was just so different from anything we had ever seen before and I couldn’t be happier withthe results. If you enjoyed the Disney movie ‘Miracle,’ then this presentation is for you. I highly recommend it.”— Jerry Mathwig, CEO, Metro Sales, Inc.

“Ross was able to convey to our audience his emotion and closeness to Herb Brooks and at the same time was able to deliver the keys toHerb's success: hard work, the ability to relate to the common person, and how to make changes as needed in order to survive. Ross had theaudience’s undivided attention during the entire presentation.” — Kevin Larson, CEO, Consolidated Telecommunications Co.

”Thank you for the marvelous presentation you gave to our members at our Summer Leadership Conference. It was interesting, humorous, poignant, family friendly – and really gave everyone some excellent messages to take home with them. Our families also thought the compli-mentary books you gave to the children in the audience were a very thoughtful touch. I conducted a post-show web survey of our attendees, and 100 percent of those who responded indicated that they were very satisfied with your presentation. I’m not surprised – the anecdotal feed-back I received was extremely positive. I know I am completely safe in saying that no one went home disappointed!” — Lara Durben, Communications Director, Minnesota Turkey Growers Association

“Ross captivated our audience as he told the touching story of Herb Brooks. As a presenter, Ross has an incredible talent of relating to peo-ple and conveying the values and history of what Coach Brooks stood for. Following his presentation, I received calls and e-mails from atten-dees who were personally touched. They expressed to me how they wanted to become better role models, coaches and team members.Sometimes our inner passion fogs over at work and in our personal lives. After listening to Ross, many of us left parting the clouds only toset higher standards for ourselves, determined not to settle for anything less than excellence.” — Amanda Daninger, Director, Visit Minneapolis North Tourism and Convention Association

“Ross Bernstein’s motivational message about the legendary life of Herb Brooks was a huge hit at our customer event, as it was both enter-taining and topical for even non-hockey fans. Ross’ ability to intertwine these lessons of growth and leadership into our business and industrystory really drove home the value of our organization to our client base. We appreciated that in preparation for the event, he took time to tourour facilities in order to get to know our organization and our challenges. I would definitely recommend using Ross for any client or employ-ee event.” — Trina Patrick, Director of Marketing, Artistic Finishes, Inc.

It wasthere where he first got into writingthrough some rather unique cir-cumstances. You see, after a failedattempt to make it as a walk-on tothe University’s top-ranked GoldenGopher hockey team, Ross optedfor the next best thing — to becomethe team’s mascot, “Goldy theGopher.” His humorous accountsas a mischievous rodent theninspired the 1992 regional best-sell-er: “Gopher Hockey by theHockey Gopher.” The rest, theysay... is history!
