He was born in Belmonte, Portugal, to a noble family.

Was educated at the royal court and became a member of the king’s council.

His life spanned 1467-1528.Isabel de Gouvia de Quieirós was his wife.The expedition was his first time commanding

a ship.

Background Information

Pedro wanted to reach Asia through the Cape of Good Hope.

He wanted to reach India from the route of the Cape of Good Hope.

Planned to take the same route that Da Gama took.

Purpose of Expedition

Pedro was blown off course after reaching Brazil. He reached India.

Started from Portugal. Was blown off course by a storm to cross the

Atlantic ocean to reach what is now Brazil.

Route of Expedition

Only 4 of Cabral’s ships returned to Lisbon out of the original 13.

This happened because the fleet was separated by a storm as they were going around the Cape of Good Hope.
