OUR GOAL THIS YEAR IS $183,000

Each year the Annual Catholic Appeal blesses us with the oppor-tunity to live our faith and to practice the virtue of charity. When resources are shared to as-

sist people in need, we are living our faith. Each gift to the Annual Catholic Appeal supports numer-ous ministries, charities and services throughout our Diocese. We are now at 10%.

DO NO HARM We listen quite a while before we get to the “punch line” of the first reading today: even though it would be an easy thing to do, David will not harm the anointed one of the Lord. We, of course, know that Jesus is the Messiah, the anointed one of God, but the Bible uses this term for many different people. It is scripture’s way of indicating who has been chosen by God for a special place and mission in salvation history. In today’s Gospel, Jesus presents a greatly en-larged list of those who, as children of God, we should not harm, but love instead: our enemies, those who curse us or do us harm, those who owe us money, the ungrateful, the wicked. The point of Jesus’ teaching is not to encourage these kinds of behaviors in others, but rather to form us in the im-age of our heavenly Father by increasing our op-portunities to love unconditionally, expecting no return; to be merciful and forgiving, even when it would be easier not to.

St. Joseph’s Table

Many years ago in Italy they had years of famine. The people prayed to St. Joseph to give them a good harvest and promised to share the bounty with everyone. They had a good harvest that year and made food from what the fields produced and invited everyone into their home to share. Therefore a meatless meal was shared by all. St. Joseph’s Table is celebrated to honor and give thanks to St. Joseph for that wonderful harvest.

MASS & POTLUCK DINNER Monday, March 18th there is a special Mass at 5:00 p.m. followed by a Potluck Dinner to celebrate St. Joseph. Everyone is invited. Families whose last name starts with: A-J—bring salads, bread or fruit K-R—bring dessert (cake, cookies, etc.) S-Z—bring meatless main dish Bring enough to serve 15-20 people.

May the peace, love and protective hand of

St. Joseph guide your life and the lives of those you

love and cherish.

Any questions please call Deacon Bill Jones at 480-671-45113 NOTE: Please see the Coming Home to All Catholics flyers at the brochure racks and give them to someone who says “I haven’t been to Mass in years” or “I used to be Catholic”
