Window Security Standards

(1) BS: 7950, 1997

Specification for Enhanced Security Performance of Casements, Tilt/turn Windows for Domestic Applications

(1) BS: 7950, 1997

BS 7950 must be supported by performance standards relevant to the materials used:

• BS 4873, 2005 - Aluminum Windows.

• BS 7412, 2007 - Plastic Windows (PVC-U extruded hollow profiles)

• BS 644-1, 2003 - Wood windows

• BWF:TWAS - Timber window accreditation scheme.

(1) BS: 7950, 1997 cont.

BS 7950 must be supported by performance standards relevant to the materials used:

• BS 6510, 2005 - Steel windows, sills, window boards and doors.

• LPS 1270 (Draft) - Burglary resistance of security glazing and glazing films.

Enables specifiers to select glazing films that offer resistance to attack.

(2) LPS 1175: Issue 2007

Specification for testing/classifying the burglary resistance of building components, strong-points and security enclosures.

Covers windows for higher risk premises with risk graded from levels 1 to 6.

(3) LPS 1270 (Draft)

Specification for testing/classifying the burglary resistance of security glazing and films.

Based on LPS 1175 this standard enables specifiers to select glazing films that offer resistance to manual attack.

(4) BS EN: 356, 2000

Specifies requirements and test methods for security glazing.

Classifies security glazing products into categories of resistance to actions of force.
