Sitting down and chatting to one of the busiest wedding celebrant in the Mackay & Whitsunday region, Rhonda Hall gives us an insight on the most rewarding job she has had.

Tell us, how did you become a celebrant?

I was a Dental Assistant for 30yrs, and thought there has to be a job more rewarding and self satisfying than what I am doing now. After a few thoughts and discussions I thought well I would love to be a Marriage Celebrant and share in the joys and the rewarding satisfaction that you are a part of a special journey. So I enrolled in a course to be a legal marriage celebrant, received my reference from the Attorney General and performed by very first ceremony at Wandon Valley in the Hunter Valley region 5 yrs ago.

Apart from weddings, are there other ceremonies that you do?

I do Naming Ceremonies, Vow Renewals, Commitment Ceremonies and Funerals. I also travel to other areas outside of the Mackay & Whitsundays to perform weddings or any of our other ceremonies.

What services can couples receive from you?

I also offer a decorating service, for ceremony only, for couples that are on a smaller budget. There two styles that I mainly focus on and that is Beach & Vintage. Also there is White or Black carpet available for the aisle. I have my own pa system for the ceremony and can also create personalised candles for couples wishing to incorporate this in their ceremony. Lastly I can also provide MC service if needed.

Now we know you are a very busy woman, so how long in advance should couples book your services?

To ensure that they get the date that they require, it is best to book 12 months or earlier.

Any advice for our couples when choosing the perfect celebrant for them?

I think each couple should definitely meet with their celebrant or suppliers for that matter and it is a perfect opportunity to talk to them about what they offer with their package. Their personality is also a key factor and making sure that they are willing to make your ceremony suitable to you and your partner. Make sure that they are registered and you can check to see if they are on the Attorney General’s website (http://www.ag.gov.au/Pages/default.aspx). Also please make sure that you pay your deposit once you have found your celebrant as soon as possible. This ensures that your date is locked in.

Lastly, any special moments that you would like to share with us?

I would have to say officiating my children’s weddings, it can’t get anymore personal than that for me. Also being the celebrant for Rachel’s wedding from Dolphin Heads. We have been working closely for a few years now and it was an honour to be a part of her special day.

Rhonda is available Monday – Friday 9am to 9pm and on Sundays from 10am – 2pm.
