THE POWER OFTHE RESURRECTION

“That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;” (Philippians 3:10). I want to focus on “The Power of His Resurrection.” Here is how I approached the subject: I asked myself a question, “In what way does the resurrection of Christ have a powerful impact on the life of a believer?” The reason this question is so relevant to us is explained in Romans 8:11.”But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.” The resurrection power brings a new life into our life, that had been “dead in trespasses and sins.” We are now spiritually alive because of Christ.

I. Christ’s Resurrection is powerful because it guarantees that atonement for sin is available. Paul tells the Corinthians that if Jesus didn’t raise from the dead, then he had no power to atone for our sins. “But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen: And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain. Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testifi ed of God that he raised up Christ whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not. For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised: And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain: ye are yet in your sins. Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished. If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the fi rstfruits of them that slept” (1 Corinthians 15:13-20). If Jesus didn’t raise from the dead, it means He was a man dying for the sins of His own. But His resurrection is evidence that his death for sin was for our sins, not His. “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively

hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead” (1 Peter 1:3). This means a new hope of being able to go to heaven, a new chance to start our life over and live for God. This was made possible when Jesus rose from the dead. The resurrection of Christ means God accepted His sacrifi ce for our sins. Imagine a person convicted of a crime and sentenced to spend a certain length of time in prison. In this instance an arrangement has been made for a substitute to take the guilty person’s place and serve out their sentence. In accordance with the agreement the substitute is locked up in prison. As long as the substitute is behind bars, the one in whose place he is suffering the sentence can never be completely sure he won’t be hauled in and made to serve the balance of the sentence himself. What if the substitute dies before the time is up? Then one day the condemned man is walking down the street and who does he meet? The one who took his punishment for him! appeared to the disciples they knew their debt had been paid! And on Easter we celebrate that fact personally. He lives! And our debt has been paid! II. Christ’s Resurrection is powerful because it sets us free from sin’s bondage! “Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead is free from sin” (Romans 6:4-7). In Romans six, Paul is explaining the spiritual experience that is pictured in Christian baptism. In water baptism we visualize how when we were saved, our old sinful life died and was buried with Him! Immersed! Then when we are raised up out of the water, that illustrates our being raised out of our sinful life by the glorious power of God! So water baptism testifies to the world that our sinful life was crucified with Christ so that our old way of life would be destroyed! And that we can now live a new life where we are not controlled by sin! “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me” (Galatians 2:20). Dr. Leon Tucker illustrates this from his own experience: “Mr. Moody sent me to preach in a tent on North Avenue and Milwaukee. He had several tent meetings under his

direction at that time. One night he came into my tent. I was preaching on the text, ‘When they were come unto the place called Golgotha...they crucified him.’ I said, ‘Now, friends, I laid Him on the cross tonight—tomorrow night I will tell you what happened afterwards.’” The next day I went to a workers’ conference, and Mr. Moody saw me. He said, ‘You are Tucker. You are in tent so and so. Don’t go back any more. I don’t need your kind of preaching!’ ‘What have I done? I preached Christ and Him crucified.’ ‘I know you did,’ he exclaimed, ‘but you left Him on the cross last night and thought you would tell them the next night what happened afterwards. Don’t you know a dead Christ on a cross never saved anybody? How do you know they will come back again? Don’t ever preach on that text again without saying, God raised Him from the dead.’” It is because He raised from the dead that we are set free from sin! III. Christ’s Resurrection is powerful because it assures us of eternal life!“Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also” (John 14;19). “But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you” (Romans 8:ll). The fact that Jesus resurrected assures us that we that are saved by His sacrifice will also be resurrected to eternal life! Paul explains it in First Corinthians 15:20-23, “But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the first fruits of them that slept. For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. But every man in

his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming.” Jesus was raised from the dead like the firstfruits of the harvest of dead saints. Since it was a man (Adam) that brought death into the world, it was a man (Jesus) that brought the resurrection from the dead into the world. As it is that all who belong to Adam’s race die, so it is that all who accept Jesus as Savior are given spiritual life. In verse 23, Paul reaffirms what he has been saying about the importance of Christ’s resurrection. It is done in the proper order. Jesus raised first as the firstfruits of His resurrection power and then when He comes with trumpet sound, He will raise the rest of us.“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14: 1-6). Because He lives and because His Spirit lives in us, we will live with him forever! IV. Christ’s Resurrection is powerful because it

assures us of a great reunion in heaven!“Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,” (2 Thessalonians 2:1). It is the exception, not the rule, to find those who do not like a gathering of those they love. When I was a child, we had a family gathering every July for Grandma Taylor’s birthday. I loved it, but it was always over too soon. Part of the sadness of our present gatherings is that there are chairs which have been left empty since the last gathering. We see with our mind’s eye, old faces. We hear with our minds ear, old voices. But there is a better gathering to come! “And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other” (Matthew 24:31). What a gathering! “Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him” (2 Thessalonians 2:1). So Paul tells them in Second Thessalonians 2:1 that the Lord has not come, but He is coming and there is going to be a gathering that includes them. What a gathering! Those poor saints in Thessalonica had been lied to by false teachers, and told the Rapture and Resurrection had passed and they’d been left behind. What do you know about the gathering? First, I know it takes place when the trumpet of God sounds! The Lord Himself will descend with a shout, the voice of the arch angel and the trump of God. The dead in Christ shall rise first then we which are alive shall be caught up to meet the Lord in the air. What a gathering! The second thing I know about this gathering is that every saint of God will be there! If you have

Jesus in your heart, you will be there. Every member of Christ’s body will be found in that gathering. Those in the dust, those in the depths of the sea, those under land slides or volcanic ash. Those whose charred remains are mixed with the ashes of a burned building or wrecked plane. Their body and soul will be reunited again in a grand and glorious gathering! And with glorified bodies they will stand around the crystal sea without a spot or wrinkle. And the only scars in the whole city will be in the hands, feet, and side of Jesus. What a gathering! The Third thing about this gathering is the reason for it. There are two main reasons for that gathering we call the Rapture. First, the gathering is the final rewarding of the people of God. They will have new bodies, they will be given white robes and crowns of righteousness that fade not away, and a new name! What a gathering! But the second reason is even more precious. They are gathered into a place of complete safety. When the worst tribulation ever known falls on the wicked and the enemies of God, the saints will be gathered unto Him! The prophet Isaiah saith: “Come, my people, enter thou into thy chambers, and close thy door about thee: hide thyself as it were for a little moment, until the indignation be over past” (Isaiah 26:20). What a gathering! This gathering is going to be huge! Think of it. Every saint from Abel to the last child born to Christian parents just before the trumpet sounds. Sometimes we get a bit discouraged because it seems there are only a few true believers. Jesus Himself said that compared to those that enter the gates of hell, there will be but few that enter heaven. But when the apostle John saw the company of the redeemed, he said it was so large no human being

could possibly count them. Yet, Jesus said His Father even knew the hairs on everyone’s head. What a gathering! This gathering is going to be awesome. Saints from around the world and from every century will be gathered and meet millions of saints they have never seen before! And if they had met on earth they wouldn’t have understood each other, but now they know even as they are known. What a gathering! If you try you can almost see them standing together sharing stories of how they overcame and how by grace through faith they reached that land. The saints will look around in awe and say like Balaam said to Balak when he saw the children of Israel enter the promised land. “Look what God has done, what hath God wrought!” What a gathering! This gathering I speak of shall be an humbling one. There will be no caste system at that gathering! Superiority complexes will be left outside the entrance to that gathering. We will see people whom we didn’t esteem very highly, receive rewards far greater than ours. And it will be revealed to us exactly where we would be if it had not been for the Lord that was on our side. Every person in that great throng shall bow their knee and confess with their mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord, and He alone is worthy! What a gathering! Finally this gathering will be unlike any we have ever seen! There will be no loneliness, no helpless infancy, no old age, no one will ever say “I am sick.” What a gathering! There will be no hypocrisy or false profession. There will be no Judas Iscariot at the communion table, no Jonah sailing on the crystal sea, and if ten virgins happen to stand together they will all be wise and none foolish. No wonder it is called “a glorious church without

spot or wrinkle.” What a gathering! It will be a gathering from which we will never part again. Goodbye follows on the heels of every hello. But there is coming a day when the words “goodbye” and “farewell” will never be spoken again. What a

gathering! There will be a continued state of calm, restful, unhurried, satisfied, blessedness. What a gathering! I want to ask you a question about the gathering. That moment when the trumpet sounds and all who

A most unusual story is told about Robert E. Lee. A lady said that during a revival meeting she ate at the same table with General Lee and the preacher who was doing the preaching. During the conversation at the table, the preacher asked the great General for a good illustration of the resurrection. General Lee related that at the close of a great battle during the Civil War, it was cloudy and very cold. Dead soldiers were thickly scattered throughout the camp where the living ones had wrapped themselves in their blankets and had laid down to sleep. The next morning, the General arose and looked out of the door of his tent. To his surprise the ground was covered with a five inch snow. As he viewed the snow-clad field where both dead and living soldiers lay sleeping, he could not distinguish the living from the dead. He looked upon the scene for several minutes in great heartache and wonder. After a while, he raised his bugle to his lips and blew reveille. Living soldiers broke through the snow and arose. General Lee said he saw in this a picture of the resurrection of the saved. When Christ comes again, the dead in Christ shall be raised. This is our great hope–the hope of life everlasting.

“SAVING HEALTH”

OF EARTH’S NATIONS

“God be merciful to us, and bless us; and cause his face to shine upon us: Selah. That thy way may be known upon earth, thy saving health among all

nations. Let the people praise thee, O God; let all the people praise thee. O let the nations be glad and sing for joy: for thou shalt judge the people righteously, and govern the nations upon earth. Selah” (Psalms 67:1-4). The mercy, blessing, and God’s look of approval that comes with salvation is a great and wonderful experience that is “better felt than telt,” to use a play on words. “Selah” means-think about that. The psalm-

ist prays for these conditions to be realized personally for one reason-so that other people can know and experience the same thing. God’s blessings are given to be shared. When we cease to be a channel for the blessings that God gives us, our spiritual health declines, and the moral sickness of sin that pervades this world continues its rampage on the souls of people. For souls, The Penningtons

India is waking up in the early hours before daybreak, to what sounds like a competition between auctioneers with bullhorns as the Muslim preach-er rambles on in an eerie mechanical tone. India is the smell of curry. Every-where. All the time. Eat it several times a day, and in a few days you will smell like it too! India is liter-ally feeling the spiritual darkness that seems like an overshadowing dark cloud. India is seeing the masses of people that is indescribable unless you have experienced it. How do

you reach over a billion people with the Gospel? Is it possible to make any real progress in a land steeped in deep cultural traditions and practices that are in such stark contrast with western culture and world views? I guess the better question would be, is there any hope for India? Jesus made the statement in John 15:5, “Without me ye can do noth-ing.” I would venture to say that the inverse of the profundity of Je-sus’ words would also be true, which would be, “WITH me ye can do any-thing.” I have seen (Cont. on page 6)

6this truth in action! When you’re in a foreign culture you can’t begin to understand, with language barriers that make communicating about like trying to have a conversation with a watermelon, you better realize that only WITH Jesus and the power of the Holy Ghost, are you going to get anything accomplished! This February, OCM had an-other opportunity to host a pastor’s school in Latur, India. Brother David Schminkey and I had the privilege of taking the truth of the Word of God once again to the spiritually hungry

pastors and ministers there. This trip was special in the impact in that the subject matter was really practi-cal and dealing with character and the personal life of the minister. We had just finished a class on the neces-sity of the Biblical pattern of pasto-ral ministry being that of a Shepherd. An elderly pastor with white hair and weathered face came up to me with tears in his eyes and made this state-ment in very broken English: “I’ve been doing ministry for long time...” He paused as a tear trickled down his face, and he continued slower now

with emotion in every word, “But for first time, I know what it means to be Shepherd.” How do you reach a billion peo-ple for Christ? One person at a time. And that one enlightened by the power of Truth, will reach another, or maybe a hundred. Who knows! And pin-points of light began to punch through the darkness. When I think of India, I think of a single need. Freedom. And I think of a single solution... “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32).

Nehemiah 4:1, 2, “But it came to pass, that when Sanballat heard that we builded the wall, he was wroth, and took great indignation, and mocked the Jews. And he spake before his brethren and the army of Samaria, and said, What do these feeble Jews? will they fortify themselves? will they sacrifice? will they make an end in a day? will they revive the stones out of the heaps of the rubbish which are burned?” As I read these verses, I am reminded of the challenge that the graduates of this school as well as others in the ministry are facing. I also see some of the same questions that we are facing from the enemy of our souls in these last days. How we answer these questions will greatly determine our usefulness in God’s kingdom. The question, “What do these feeble Jews?” suggests that the enemy does not believe that you

have the strength to get the job done. Everybody will not believe in you, but we do, and so does the Lord who trained you. “Will they fortify themselves?” Fortify means to increase the effectiveness by additional ingredients. You have fortified yourself through your study and ministerial training experience here at Ozark Bible Institute and College. “Will they sacrifice?” Do they care enough about the cause of God to suffer, and will they give up anything to see the kingdom of God built up? “Will they make an end in a day?” Will they stay on the job until they can say, “I have fought a good fight and I have finished my course?” “Will they revive the stones out of the heaps of the rubbish which are burned?” Will they be successful in their endeavor? The Lord Jesus Christ guarantees our success. He said, “I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” The enemy said in verse three of chapter four, that even if they do finish the work that a fox walking on it would collapse it, but they all worked together and finished the wall in fifty two days. Graduates, you can finish, because He who began a good work in you will continue it until we reach that city where the building and the battling will be over. Until then, you have a sincere “well done” from us at Ozark Bible Institute and College. May you continue on until you hear the “well done” of the one who loved you and washed you in His own blood. God bless your work, and come and see us every chance you get.

OBI Scholarships for 2015-2016 School Year 7Scholarships given to twenty-two students to attend Ozark Bible Institute and College

Traditionally, scholarships are given based on academics. Although academics are considered, these scholarships are granted based upon total character. The OBI administration is interested in helping students and prospective students who are serious minded about training for four years of Theological studies and full-time ministry. In recent years, Ozark Bible Institute and College has been blessed by newly created scholarship funds. These funds are proving to be most helpful and encouraging to several students. Each of the scholarships have been es-tablished by individuals who have a special interest in the training of young people for the work of the ministry. At present, there are fifteen different scholarships that are being given on an annual basis.

The scholarship program has been a wonderful way to invest in God's kingdom by helping young people train for the ministry. On behalf of OBI, let me say "Thank you" to all who have made our scholarship program possible.

Sincerely, Daniel E. Taylor

I can’t believe it! It’s here again. Already!! Really? Time for camp again! YES!!! I remember standing on the sidewalk watching as they loaded up to go and I couldn’t go... too little... Now they tell me, “you can’t go down the water-slide at Peniel” ...too big!! That’s right, I still go to camp. I wouldn’t miss it! There is no greater joy then praying with my youth and

children in the altars plus watching them play volleyball and sing on the platform; songs about their Savior. This summer the world will spend thousands of dollars traveling and providing for their children and neighborhood to be involved in activities of every sort. Most of them are of earthly, non-eternal value! We have been given a golden opportunity to invest in our future and we will be the recipients of that investment–both now and later! All of my staff are products of Bible youth camps, and they are now highly involved in them today. Pastor, I must warn you. If you bring your children and young people—they may turn out to be missionaries or pastors or people with a passion for the lost in your community. If they get prayed through and surrender to God in the altars, it may change your church in a dynamic way like you’ve only dreamed of. I can honestly say, “I thank the Lord for Camp Peniel, Sunset Hills and camps similar. They have helped Faith Tabernacle to become what it is today and will be in the future.” I know this friends—one day, and I believe it’s soon, we will all stand before God and give account. Where have you placed your talents? Every dollar spent for the buses and the gas to get them there, food for ones without, special offering for the bus tires and insurance, the week you took off work without pay to go be a counselor. That will all be worth it when you stand before Him and know you cared about what He died for—Souls. See you at camp!
