3rd year Degree and installation project

2003 - 2008

The final year project consisted of an underground yeshiva (religious school of learning) and mikveh (ritual cleansing bath) underneath a defunct synagogue in Tangiers, Morrocco

Page 5: Resume + Portfolio

Section (originally 1:50)

Final Drawings were drawn by hand and then edited in photoshop. A subterranean synagogue and mikveh in Morocco, funneling natural light and rainwater.

The building transports natural light down incisions that run along the facade of the building above. Heliostats on the roof reflect the maximum amount of light down the incisions during the course of the day.

Page 7: Resume + Portfolio

Axonometric perspective

This drawing shows the light funnels and heliostats in relation to the movement of the sun over the course of the day. This structure is nescessary in order to acheive the effect in the basement synagogue, portrayed in the perspective.

Selective Axonometric

This axonometric depicts the movement of people down into the synagogue and mikveh, against the movement of light and water. Light and water are transported vertically down through incisions, whereas the occupants take a circular route down to the mikveh, which is 2 levels below ground.

Shelter Project 2003

This was a group project which involved the construction of an installation in Borough Market under the title of shelter.

The parasitic installation clung onto a 3m high fence. As one progressed through the shelter, different lights were activated to lure the occupant further in.

The culmination of the installation was a focused window into the space beyond the fence, which was generally ignored by everyday commuters.

$30,000 Art Grant won by 2 members of the DS17 Architecture Studio at Westminster to construct installations at the festival

Page 10: Resume + Portfolio

This installation consisted of 2 types of interactive structures that are based on the work of Swedish mathematician Niels Fabian Helge von Koch and in particular his invention of the Koch Snowflake, which is a recursive 2D tetrahedral geometric pattern.

4 timber-made fractal pods surround a space frame structure of a similar fractal nature. The timber pods are inhabitable and can fit up to 2 people within them. The central scaffolding fractalwas dressed with climbing nets, inviting occupants to climb and engage with the structure.

The second project was a plywood structure consisting of two concave forms. The plywood would be steam bent in order to acheive the curved wave-like shape and braced by several ribs across its interior facade.

A tensile system of guy wires provide additional support to the tall end of the installation which would be susceptible to the high winds experienced in the desert.

Masters Thesis - The Caretakers

2012 - 2013

The proposal was to provide a space for all the many associations attached to the Olympic Parks development, ensuring a secure and sustainable master planning development strategy for the area with 3 main aims:

1. Provide a singular debating forum for all public, private and 3rd sector organisations with a vested interest in the Park, in order to provide a sustainable development strategy that will be mutually beneficial to all parties involved.

2. Provide sufficient workspace for all organisations involved so that they can all reside under one roof as opposed to being physically as well as ideologically disconnected from each other.

3. Provide a security arrangement for the park that would preclude the need for “the big blue wall” that encompasses the entire site, through the creation of a raised roads and walkways

This building originally consisted of a ground floor restaurant unit with residential units on the first and second floor. The proposal is to replace the shop front and fascia over the two bays comprising the Royal China unit so that we can incorporate into the new shop front a level access, and a complete renovation of the interior of the restaurant. As well as requiring detailed plans and sections of the proposal, the client requested the composition of several 3D images.

SEE DRAWING 3072-312 FOR ELEVATION OF AREA BEHIND LOBBY The project involved the refit of an existing

restaurant in Marlybone. The entire existing restaurant was stripped out, including the kitchen and shopfront. A new bespoke kitchen was then installed along with new furniture, lighting, services, and finishes.

A 3D model of the proposed fit-out was requested. This involved many changes as the clients were extremely fussy about detail.

During the course of constructing the model, I met the clients various times to discuss amendments including furniture layouts, lighting, and materiality.

Orbit House was originally a 4 storey office building located just off the Hanger Lane in London.

The building has been granted planning consent for a change of use to a 167 bedroom hotel, which is currently under construction.

The image on the left portrays one of the room layouts which was drawn at 1:20. I was part of the team that was responsible for organising all 167 rooms. This was quite challenging as due to the existing structure of the building, most of the rooms were not uniformally shaped, resulting in a different layout for almost every one.

Below are the images I produced for the Royal Eagle Hotel, which is mentioned briefly in my CV.

The proposal was to introduce external floodlighting to this listed hotel in London. This was particularly challenging due to its listed status and as a result, detailed drawings, and indepth lighting analyses had to be drawn up and documented for the application to be eventually accepted.

Le Pain Quotidien is a chain of cafe’s in London with whom Stiff + Trevillion Architects work with fairly extensively.

The location for their newest branch was the Wextfield shopping centre in Shepherds Bush, London.

The clients planned to construct an island unit, which would fit comfortably into a balcony which hungover one of the lower level stairacases.

A 3D model was requested alongside all the relevant proposed sections and plans. The drawings and model were the most challenging, and most rewarding projects I have had to work on during my time at S+T Architects.

Perhaps one of the most interesting projects I have worked on is Grace Pavilion. The client requested a small office/studio be

built in the back of his garden in Cambridge.

With the clients request in mind, I set about researching various influences, the most predominant of which was Mies Van Der

Rohes’s Barcelona Pavilion.

The final design of the pavillion was developed gradually through a series of 3-Dimensional iterative steps. A combination of Photoshop and Artlantis helped to conclude in the final

resolution.

The subject is a Grade 2 Listed property constructed in 1877 in yellow brick with red dressings over four storeys and an attic, located to the north side of the River Thames on the Chelsea Embankment, with views over the river to the south side and

the Chelsea Physic Garden to the North.

The proposed works involve the removal of a non original existing painted timber and glazed screen which protrudes out onto the fourth floor terrace, and the introduction of a more sympathic assembly of French doors and sash windows in painted timber and glazing, set back in line with the building. A general internal refurbishment, and a roof extension to the

property is also to take place.

This is one of the few projects of which all aspects I worked extensively on. The client requested detailed drawings and 3D images of almost every room in the house. The examples below

show the kitchen, bathroom, and kids room.
