The Honoring the Community through Preservation project will share the industriousness and progress
in Remus’ development over the years as shared by local elders. Several years ago, the late Don Hatfield led a small team of volunteers to identify, interview and film over 60 Remus area elders. They talked about their farms, schools, businesses, family and churches. The completed DVD, once editing is completed, tell the story of how the early Re-mus area trailblazers with cooperative spirit led to the successful Remus Creamery and other businesses by using ingenuity, hard work and local natural resources. Don’s daughter Sherry Marks has been working with Duane Weed of DW Video & Multimedia, LLC of How-ard City to create a viable DVD product that can be reproduced for sale. To finish the DVD, donations and grants are needed to raise $4000 (several grants are being sent out) and still photos are needed to insert into areas where the film quality was poor. In addition, to draw shoppers to the Remus area businesses, and build interest in the DVD project, we plan to ask area businesses if we can display photo placards in windows showing what was on each site years ago. These placards will share a few stories that bring the photo to life and note how the DVDs can be purchased. For more in-formation, email contact Sherry Marks at (231) 250-2441 or Pamela Peach Burke at (989) 330-1678.

"Kaleidoscope" QUILT BLOCK FOR SALE!
The Remus Area Historical Society established the Mecosta County Quilt Block Trail in 2013; it now features 69 blocks! This lovely 4 foot by 4-foot quilt block named "Kaleidoscope" by local artist/painter, Karen Coville, can be yours for $400. It can be installed onto your barn, garage, or other structure. The price entitles your block and lo-cation to be added to the Mecosta County Quilt Block Trail map brochure when it is re-printed. Please contact Char Lenon at (989) 560-2431, email [email protected], or email [email protected] to arrange for pay-ment and to schedule delivery/installation. (Make check payable to the Remus Area Historical Society or RAHS). Several people are now painting their own quilt block boards, so there are even more cre-ative designs mounted around the county. Currently, we are not planning on painting more blocks for the trail, however, if you have created your own block and wish to be added to the "trail" and brochure map contact us with your infor-mation.
