NCVPS Online In 2005, on the

recommendation of the North Carolina e-Learning Commission, the General Assembly established the North Carolina Virtual Public School

The purpose of the North Carolina Virtual Public School (NCVPS) is to provide e-learning opportunities to students.

The authorizing legislation for NCVPS states: “NCVPS shall be available at no cost to all students in North Carolina who are enrolled in NC’s public schools.

Things to Consider The course offerings are only courses NOT taught at PHS All NCVPS courses will count as elective credits Students must have a 3.0 or higher GPA to take an online class,

plus additional requirements of NCVPS, and 2 teacher recommendations

ALL WORK AND COMMUNICATION IS COMPLETED ELECTRONICALLY

Teacher could be located anywhere across the state; will not be a Pisgah teacher, and there will not be a Pisgah teacher responsible for assisting these students. There WILL be a site-based facilitator for technical issues

NCVPS’s grading periods do not match PHS – MUST MONITOR GRADES CAREFULLY! Students (and parents) can do this on the NCVPS site with password!

Course Commitment Form Must return to applicable teacher by

Friday, Feb. 21st. Signing-up for course commits you to that

course, if available WHY: – Must know numbers in order to determine the

number of sections offered– Form commits student(s) to class; if they pre-register

and then change their mind, numbers and sections are unbalanced and other classes overloaded
