The APGA Convention and Exhibition

The APGA Annual Convention and Exhibition is one of the most significant industry events for the pipeline and gas industries. Its value as an opportunity for information exchange, learning and networking is well-known and its convivial atmosphere is one of the highlights. The APGA Convention and Exhibition is a genuine reflection of the Association’s commitment to the industry, to its membership and as an opportunity for those members to shine. This year’s Convention will be held from 12 to 15 October at the Adelaide Convention Centre. The theme of the 2019 Convention is Infrastructure for the Future. The Convention business sessions feature presentations on the challenges of today and tomorrow, specifically looking at new applications for pipelines and future fuels, pipeline operations, construction, safety, environment, competency and corporate culture. In addition, the leaders of our industries will be sharing their views in the CEO Forum.

Of the approximately 30 APGA events and functions held each year, the Annual Convention and Exhibition is the highlight: the showcase for the industry. It is an opportunity for all members from all sectors of the industry to meet and address the issues that are important. It is an opportunity to share critical knowledge about the industry. The Exhibition provides the opportunity for participants to display their products and conference attendees to learn about new developments. It is an opportunity to ask questions and discuss the latest products and services. The APGA Convention and Exhibition provides an excellent forum for exchange of ideas and information. The business program promises high-quality papers and useful information and we look forward to welcoming you and your partner to the 2019 APGA Convention and Exhibition, to participate in four busy, informative and entertaining days.

For the 2019 Convention, APGA is travelling to South Australia’s bustling capital city of Adelaide. The Adelaide CBD design is known as a masterwork – featuring wide parallel streets, squares and terraces all encompassed by parklands.

The city centre, named Rundle Mall, is the main retail hub of Adelaide. The area is car-free and is home to some famous Adelaide landmarks such as the four bronze pigs: Truffles, Horatio, Oliver and Augustus. There are numerous museums and galleries to wander around, as well as many historical buildings such as Ayers House Museum and Carrick Hall.

Adelaide has some beautiful beaches not far from the city centre such as Glenelg, with a large waterpark and boutique stores close to Semaphore beach featuring its historic 1920s carousel and preserved art deco buildings. All of the beaches are surrounded by restaurants, pubs and cafes to keep your energy levels up for exploration.

Monday 14 October 2019 Anna Meares, OAMAnna Meares OAM is considered by many to be the greatest Australian cyclist of all time. She made Olympic history in Rio in 2016 by becoming the first and only Australian athlete to have ever won individual medals at four consecutive Olympic Games. During her 15-year career as an elite athlete, Anna collected 18 gold medals, 16 silver medals and 10 bronze medals at Olympic, World and Commonwealth Games level. Anna was named Australia’s flagbearer and team captain at the 2016 Rio Olympics.Anna launched into the track cycling world scene in 2004 when she claimed her first world title in the 500m time trial at the world championships held in Melbourne, aged 20. Just a few months later, she went on to claim her first Olympic gold in Athens in the 500m time trial – also becoming the first woman in the world to break the 34-second barrier claiming the World and Olympic record in the process – and won bronze in the sprint. One of her most remarkable achievements was her silver medal in the sprint at the Beijing Olympics in 2008 – Australia’s only cycling medal of the Games – just seven months after she broke her neck in a horrific crash at a World Cup meet in Los Angeles. Her spirit of sportsmanship, her never-say-quit attitude, her passion and focus on the goal and her dedication and hard work are the hallmarks that define her as a champion and a winner. Her success on the track is not the only thing that drives Anna. She has chosen to be a strong contributor to her community serving as an ambassador for Cycling Cares, which links in with Neale Daniher and Ian Davis’s foundation, FIGHT MND, after her coach of eight years, Gary West was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease on returning home from the Rio Olympics. Anna is also an ambassador for the Little Heroes foundation for kids with serious illness, helping to raise funds for a worthy cause and put a smile on the faces of the children fighting seemingly undefeatable disease and providing inspiration to their families and for the Port Adelaide Football Club and community.

Tourist Attractions

More about Adelaide Adelaide Central MarketAdelaide Central Market is the largest market of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere, making the markets Adelaide’s premier food destination. Under the same roof, you will find more than 70 stalls of fresh fruit and vegetables, meat and poultry, seafood, cheeses, smallgoods and health foods. The markets also host many of Adelaide’s popular cafes and eateries for you to enjoy. The markets are undercover and there is plenty of parking for those wishing to drive there.Wine Regions Explore the beautiful wine regions of Adelaide, including the Barossa, McLaren Vale, Clare Valley, Coonawarra and Adelaide Hills. The South Australian wine regions are responsible for more than half the production of all Australian wine and, as the wine capital of Australia, they boast more than 200 cellar doors. Adelaide is also one of the nine great wine capitals of the world alongside Bordeaux in France, Napa Valley in the US and Bilbao Rioja in Spain. Adelaide wine regions surround the capital, making day tours through the regions easy and enjoyable. Choose one of the many wine tours leaving from your Adelaide hotel.

Regional DestinationsA definite benefit of Adelaide is the amazing array of regional destinations available as day trips from the city.Barossa is a just over an hour from the city and arguably the best wine area Adelaide has to offer. Jacob’s Creek and Lamberts Estate Winery are just two of the major wineries that you can visit in this area and, for the foodies, Maggie Beer’s Farm Shop is definitely worth a visit. Mount Lofty is only 30 minutes outside the city and offers panoramic views of the city and the western Adelaide plains. Mount Lofty is the highest point of the Mount Lofty Ranges where, from the point, you can follow the walk down to Waterfall Gully, join the Heysen Trail or take the a walking trail through native bushland to Cleland Wildlife Park.Kangaroo Island is a little further afield, the ferry trip there takes approximately 3.5 hours. Over a third of the island includes protected nature reserves, and so offers an amazing array of native wildlife of sea lions, koalas and penguins. The landscape of the area is breathtaking, with large rock formations, striking coastlines and beautiful beaches.

Adelaide is known for its Mediterranean climate with cool to mild winters and warm to hot summers. In October we can expect a daily average of 21°C and cool nights of 12°C.
