    LAKE GENEVA NEWS

Regional News & Resorter take home 24 awards

    By John [email protected]

Last year the Regional News was rated the best newspa-per of its size in the state by the Wisconsin Newspaper Asso-ciation. It also won seven other awards from the WNA.

This year, we didnt win the top award for General Excel-

lence. But our crew overcompensated and won 24 otherawards including four first place honors. That was 16 moreawards than the paper has ever won in the past.

Two first place awards went to Jessica Franzene, editorof the Resorter. She won for best entertainment pages forthe Resorter and overall page design for a layout in WelcomeHome, our summer real estate supplement.

The judges said the Resorter was absolutely chock full ofinformation and noted the brilliant use of images in ads.

I won a first for local columns. The judges based theirdecision on three column entries.

We won another first place for best special project. Thisaward was for What is Lake Geneva Missing. Staff mem-

bers Phil Bonyata, Rob Ireland and Joy Kowald shared in theaward, which featured local businessman Philip Sassano.Kowald and Bonyata make up our ReelLifeTV staff.

As I said last year, awards arent our goal but they area great honor for all the hard work our staff puts in each andevery week.

Next year we plan to return to the top of the podium inthe general excellence category.

In the meantime, well do our day jobs which is to pro-vide a mirror of the Lake Geneva area and hope to be part ofmaking it better.

Halverson is editor and general manager of theRegionalNews.
