 EXTERNAL JOB POSTING POSITION:  Recreation Therapist Full time contract – Maternity Leave June 13, 2011 – July 10, 2012  POSITION SUMMARY: As a member of an extensive inter-professional team, the Recreational Therapist will provide specialized assessments and implementation of therapeutic recreational interventions and/or services for specific client care programs in the residence and community programs. The Recreational Therapist will utilize his/her specialized education, training and creativity to create a milieu and supportive activities that promotes and facilitates engagement, socialization, participation, mastery and self development through their work with individuals, in collaboration with families, supporters and community providers. QUALIFICATIONS:  University Degree in Recreation and/or a University Degree in a related discipline with a post diploma/certificate in the field of Recreation Therapy, 1 – 3 years experiencing working with adults in a therapeutic recreation setting is an asset Experience working with clients with HIV/AIDS, rehabilitative, mental health and addictions issues or in a palliative care setting is an asset Registered member in good standing of Therapeutic Recreation Ontario organization, or eligible for registration in Ontario Possesses effective verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills Evidence of capacity to work from a Harm Reduction framework Crisis intervention training, and CPR certification or willingness to pursue Computer literacy RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:  1. Assess residents using interviews, standardized and observational assessment techniques 2. Design and maintain therapeutic recreation programs 3. Implements individual and small group treatment and leisure education programs 4. Ensures the appropriate placement of residents in programs 5. Advertise and promote programs 6. Maintains recreation supplies and ensure all equipment is accounted for 7. Attend residential program rounds to report on findings and to discuss plans for interventions 8. Maintains daily workload measurement statistics

OTHER INFORMATION: 

The position reports to the Clinical Manager. Hours of work will be primarily Monday to Friday for

37.5 hours per week, approximately 7.5 hours day with some evening and weekend hours to address

client and programming needs.
