Chapel Hill Garden TourSponsored by Chapel Hill Parks and Recreation

The Chapel Hill Garden Club presents the 13th biennial Garden Tour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 23 and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 24, 2022. Community partners include I Must Garden; The Town of Chapel Hill Parks and Recreation Department; Piedmont Feed and Garden Center; Southern States Carrboro; Wells Fargo; and Witherspoon Rose Culture.

The 2022 Tour, “Vision & View,” showcases six private gardens and the North Carolina Botanical Garden (NCBG). The gardens, ranging from historic to modern, personal to campus, mountaintop to lakeside, have been thoughtfully created by passionate, visionary gardeners with diverse properties and points of view.

"As a relative newcomer to the area, I am delighted to be part of a Chapel Hill community tradition, the Chapel Hill Garden Tour. The 2022 gardens are each truly spectacular in their own right, from the traditional and historic to brand new, modern designs. What can be found behind Chapel Hill garden gates never fails to amaze and astonish me,” said Gill Roberts, 2022 Chapel Hill Garden Tour Chair.

Tickets are $25 in advance at chapelhillgardenclub.net. Local ticket sales begin April 1, 2022 at the NCBG Gift Shop, Piedmont Feed and Garden Center, Southern States Carrboro, Wild Bird Center of Chapel Hill (Eastgate Shopping Center) and Victoria Park Florist. Tickets are $35 on Tour days. Youth 16 and under are free with a ticketed adult. Rain or shine, the Tour will go on.

Proceeds support the NCBG‘s expanding Children‘s Wonder Garden, ongoing programs at the NCBG and the Chapel Hill Garden Club's many service projects. For garden descriptions and updated tour information, visit chapelhillgardenclub.net or email [email protected].

Since 1931, the Chapel Hill Garden Club has showcased the pleasure of gardening and championed good stewardship of the environment.

Parks and Recreation Park Destinations

Outdoor Volleyball Courts Umstead Park

Open play is available at our seven outdoor courts. Players range from young converts from the conventional indoor game and high school club competitors to adult league and tournament enthusiasts. Sand volleyball’s popularity is on the rise.

Blue Sky Volleyball coordinates instruction, high school competition, and adult pick-up play at the Chapel Hill courts. Enjoy instruction, high school competition, and adult pick-up play.

Chapel Hill Skate Park and Batting Cage Homestead Park

The Chapel Hill Skate Park is 10,000 square feet of excitement! Operated by the Parks and Recreation Department as an unsupervised facility, admission is free to all participants. The Skate Park's concrete slab is covered with a tremendous assortment of ramps suitable for everyone.

Even if you don’t skate, you should stop and watch as in-line skaters and skateboarders work the ramps. It’s worth a visit.

The Batting Cage has six stations that provide users with softball and baseball pitches at a variety of speeds. Batting Cage tokens may be purchased at the Homestead Aquatic Center, located adjacent to the facility.

Disc Golf Course Southern Community Park

This Disc Golf of Course is a winding voyage through the woods, one hole at a time. If you enjoy short, technical courses, you will like this course. Each hole has 3 pins positions. There are good tee signs that highlight the multiple basket locales. Based on their variances, the course will look and play different in each layout. Between each hole there is a metal, park sign with an arrow and hole number pointing you to the next basket.

The Disc Golf course is almost exclusively isolated from the rest of the park. Southern Community Park is one of the largest community park in Chapel Hill. There's ample parking and trails associated with the park as well.

Dog Parks Southern Community Park Homestead Community Park

Come visit our newest dog park at Southern Community Park. The approximate 2-acre dog park has water, a small dog area and will be split 50/50 shaded and sunny. Waste mitts are available.

The Southern Community dog park is definitely the best dog park in the Chapel Hill area! There is a small dog park and large dog park, which are separated by a fence. The town does a great job of cleaning and maintaining both.

Your dog can run and play without a leash in this 20,000 square foot enclosed area in Homestead Park. The dog park is entered through a double gate to ensure safe release of dogs from leashes. Separate small and large dog areas. The fence is 5 feet high to prevent dogs from escaping. Water and waste mitts are available.

Tennis and Pickeball Courts  Ephesus Park

The main feature of Ephesus Park is the tennis and pickleball complex, including 4 tennis courts and 6 pickleball courts. Ephesus Park was built in the mid-1970s. A recent project was recently completed that included improvements to increase accessibility with ADA compliant paths and expanding the overall number of parking spaces. Pickleball is a combination of tennis, badminton, and table tennis. It’s fast-paced, easy- to-learn, great exercise, and fun! Open to all ages.

Picnic Shelters Community Parks

Picnic Shelter Rentals are now available online! Check availability go to www.chapelhillparks.org and click on “facility rentals” to read about how to reserve a picnic shelter. Picnic shelter reservations are limited to a maximum of 50 people per reservation.
