SEATTLE RECORDER SOCIETY December 2016 Vol. XLVIII, No. 4 www.seattle-recorder.org Recorder Notes SRS Meeting Friday, December 2, 2016 @ 7:30 pm Opening Program Isabella Pagel and Jonathon Oddie (Castello, Linde, and Telemann) Playing Session (Peter Seibert) Peter’s arrangements of Christmas carols and hymns All sizes of recorders are needed, and viols and other soft winds/reeds are always welcome. Backroom Gang (Miyo Aoki) Music will be provided. From the Music Director (Vicki Boeckman) Greetings, Everyone, I am still in a state of shock and disbelief at the election results as I write, as I know many of you in the community are. Hard to believe that December is upon us, and the end of the year is nigh. The holidays are here and music will get us through—music, love, and hope. The end of any year is a time of reflection and gratitude, and there is truly so very much to be grateful for. There will be many, many concerts to attend in December. The concert calendar is filled to the brim! I am eagerly looking forward to our emeritus Peter Seibert leading us for this last meeting of 2016. Please read below as he tells us what he has planned for the evening. For our opening program it gives me great pleasure to “present” Isabella Pagel on recorder and Jonathan Oddie on harpsichord. Isabella started lessons with me at Music Center of the Northwest in 2006 at the tender age of 9. Many of you have followed the growth of the young women in “Rockin Recorders” through the years at various concerts around the community, at SRS opening programs, and SRS Members’ Nights. Isabella was away at college last year and started Skype lessons with Nina Stern in New York which she continues to do, and studied with Bart Spanhove at the Amherst Workshop's virtuoso program last summer. Her dream is to get a degree in music and pedagogy, and she will be applying to several European conservatories this spring. I am so proud of her dedication and commitment!
