Please be aware that the activities set are optional, open ended tasks for you to use when and if you wish. There is no expectation that all the tasks are complete.
We invite families to pick and choose learning activities that work for them; to take a break/holiday from home learning if you wish
or to keep on with the routine depending on individual circumstances.

Learning at Home Tasks
How does the story end? Week 12
Math (Number & Shape, Space and Measure)
Number:
In our previous home learning tasks you have
learnt about halving and doubling. Recap
what you have learnt by watching this
Numberjacks video:

Now think about the Goldilocks and the Three
bears story. Imagine Goldilocks did not just
take things from Baby Bear’s house, but she
shared with him. How much would each of
them get it they had 4 cookies? You can
show your thinking in a drawing or a number
sentence like this:
2+2=4
Now share 6,8,10 or 12 cookies. Here are
some extra tricky questions to extend your
learning. Can Goldilocks and Baby Bear share
5 cookies? What if Mummy and Daddy Bear
are hungry too? Can you share 8 cookies
between all of them in a way that is equal
and fair?
Shape, Space and Measure:
Daddy bear is the tallest in the family. Mummy
Bear is smaller than him but taller than Baby
Bear. Who is the tallest in your family? Who is
the smallest? Draw all your family members in
order of their size and label them
Goldilocks and the Three Bears
Literacy (Reading & Writing) Our Story for the Week This week we are looking at ‘Goldilocks and the
Three Bears’. Read the story at home or watch it
on YouTube.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0oUP2PFeOi8
Who are the characters in the story? Where does
the story take place? What happens at the end of
the story? Have a go at drawing a picture of your
favorite character. Write a super sentence about
who you like and why. (My favorite character is…
because…). Don’t forget to include your capital
letter, finger spaces and full stop.
Storytellers
Let’s retell the story of Goldilocks and the Three
Bears. Use the cut-outs below as puppets or you
could make your own by drawing and cutting
them out. What does Goldilocks say when she tries
each bowl, chair and bed? What voices could you
use for the different bears? How does Baby Bear
react when he sees Goldilocks asleep in his bed?
Maybe your family can be storytellers too, just give
them a puppet and let them know what that
character says and does.
Phonics: The new sound this week is ‘ow’ as in ‘howl’, ‘cow’,
‘owl’. Use the YouTube videos in Useful Links below
to learn and practice our new sound.
Use the activity ‘Clown in the Town’ on Education
City to explore words and objects that contain our
new ‘ow’ sound.
Ask a grown up to help you to read ‘The Fox and
the Owl’ story task sheet. Which words have the
‘ow’ sound? Make a list of the words you spot!
How many did you find? Next, use a magnifying
glass (or the zoom function of a camera) to read
the ‘ow’ words that are hiding in the forest.
Challenge: Choose a word and make a sentence.
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
This week’s story is called Goldilocks and the Three
Bears. Think about the end of the story. Why do you
think Goldilocks runs away? How is she feeling? How
are the Three Bears feeling? Is there a way the story
could end differently? Maybe they can all become
friends. Imagine Goldilocks wrote a letter to the Three
Bears, saying sorry to them. Have a go at writing the
letter. Ask a grown up to help you by beginning the
sentence with ‘Dear Bears, I am really sorry about...’ If
you want, you could even write a reply from the
bears. Do they accept the apology letter from
Goldilocks? Do they want to be friends?
Understanding the World Science: Goldilocks enjoyed sleeping in Baby Bear’s bed. It was ‘just right’ because it was ‘comfortable’ and ’soft’. She didn’t like the other beds as they were ‘hard’ and ‘lumpy’. What makes
a good bed? How do you know if a bed is good or not? Create a bed for your bear using items from your home e.g. blankets, cushions, boxes, lego etc. Which materials made the best bed? Why? Are there any other materials you would
like to try out?
People and Communities & RRSA: Article 14: ‘Freedom of thought, belief and religion. Every child has the right to think and believe what they choose and also to practise their religion’. In RE we are learning about Holy Books. They are a very special stories, showing how people should behave. Here are some examples: Christianity: The Bible Islam: The Quran Hinduism: The Vedas or The Bhagavad Gita Religion of Sikhism: Guru Granth Sahib Judaism: The Torah Ask a grown up in your family what is the holy book in your religion and why is it special? Maybe you can remember a story from your holy book. Draw a picture of your favourite part.
Expressive Arts and Design Imagine, Design and Make:
My Favorite Breakfast
Goldilocks and the Three Bears love eating porridge for breakfast. What do you like to
eat for breakfast? What don’t you like to eat for breakfast? What does your family like to
eat for breakfast? Draw your favorite breakfast meal in your blue book. Label the
pictures using your phonic sounds. Maybe you could ask your grown up to take a
picture of you helping to make your breakfast.
Porridge Playdough
Porridge is yummy to eat but it’s also fun to play with. Let’s use the oats that make the
porridge to make some extra special porridge playdough. Follow the recipe below and
have fun. What does the porridge playdough smell like? What is the texture of the
porridge playdough? What can you make?
Physical Development Moving and Handling Let’s practice our throwing skills at home! Make some balls using socks
or rolled up paper. Ask a grown up for 3 different sized containers. One
for Daddy Bear, one for Mummy Bear and one for Baby Bear. Can you
throw one in each container? Too easy? Try moving the containers
further away!
Fine Motor Skills Let’s all practise our lower case letters! Use the letter guide on the task
sheet for support and practise in your blue book. Are they all facing
the correct way?
Health and Self Care We all know how important it is to wash our hands to keep us and our
families healthy. Have a look at the pictures on the task sheet. What is
the correct order to wash our hands? Don’t forget you need to wash
your hands with soap for at least 20 seconds and wash them often!
