    ACKONWLEDGEMENT

It is not enough that we lay the super structure of the building, but the most important

part is the base of the building. Similarly, this project would be incomplete without mentioning

the real people who have guided, supported, and me realize the corporate culture through which

the long cherished dream of implementing a quality program in this esteemed organization could

    be realized.

First of all, I would like to express my gratitude to my project guide Ms.Rajini HR ofETNL, who supported and guided me throughout the project and gave me all necessary facilities

and inputs to make this project a successful one and also made me as energetic and enthusiastic

    INDUSTRIAL OVERVIEW

    1.0 Software development:-

    INTRODUCTION:-

Software development (also known as Application Development; Software Design,

Designing Software, Software Engineering, Software Application Development, Enterprise

Application Development, Platform Development, is the development of a software product in a

planned and structured process. This software could be produced for a variety of purposes - the

three most common purposes are to meet specific needs of a specific client/business, to meet a

perceived need of some set of potential users.

The term software development is often used to refer to the activity of computer

programming which is the process of writing and maintaining the source code, whereas thebroader sense of the term includes all that is involved between the conceptions of the desired

software through to the final manifestation of the software. Therefore, software development

may include research, new development, modification, reuse, re-engineering, maintenance, or

any other activities that result in software products. For larger software systems, usually

developed by a team of people, some form of process is typically followed to guide the stages of

    production of the software.

    Marketing:-

The sources of ideas for software products are legion. These ideas can come from market

research including the demographics of potential new customers, existing customers, sales

prospects who rejected the product, other internal software development staff, or a creative third

party. Ideas for software products are usually first evaluated by marketing personnel for

economic feasibility, for fit with existing channels distribution, for possible effects on existing

    7 | P a g e

  • 8/8/2019 Reach of Software Educational Ins Tut Ions

    8/50

product lines, required features, and for fit with the company's marketing objectives. In a

marketing evaluation phase, the cost and time assumptions become evaluated. A decision is

reached early in the first phase as to whether, based on the more detailed information generated

by the marketing and development staff, the project should be pursued further.

    Software development methodology

A software development methodology is a framework that is used to structure, plan, and

control the process of developing information systems. A wide variety of such frameworks have

evolved over the years, each with its own recognized strengths and weaknesses. One system

development methodology is not necessarily suitable for use by all projects. Each of the

available methodologies is best suited to specific kinds of projects, based on various technical,

    organizational, project and team considerations.

Application software, also known as an application, is computer software designed to

help the userto perform singular or multiple related specific tasks. Examples include enterprisesoftware, accounting software, office suites, graphics software, and media players.

Application software is contrasted with system software and middleware, which manage

and integrate a computer's capabilities, but typically do not directly apply them in the

performance of tasks that benefit the user. A simple, if imperfect analogy in the world of

hardware would be the relationship of an electric light bulb (an application) to an electric power

generation plant (a system). The power plant merely generates electricity, not itself of any real

use until harnessed to an application like the electric light that performs a service that benefits

    the user.

    1.1Application Software Classification:-

There are many types of application software:

An application suite consists of multiple applications bundled together. They usually

have related functions, features and user interfaces, and may be able to interact with each other,

e.g. open each other's files. Business applications often come in suites, e.g. Microsoft

    Office, OpenOffice.org, and iWork, which bundle together a word processor, a spreadsheet, etc.;

but suites exist for other purposes, e.g. graphics or music. Enterprise software addresses the

needs of organization processes and data flow, often in a large distributed environment.

(Examples include financial systems, customer relationship management (CRM) systems, and

supply-chain management software). Note that Departmental Software is a sub-type of

Enterprise Software with a focus on smaller organizations or groups within a large organization.

Enterprise infrastructure softwareprovides common capabilities needed to support

enterprise software systems. Information worker software addresses the needs of individuals

to create and manage information, often for individual projects within a department, in contrast

to enterprise management. Examples include time management, resource management,

documentation tools, analytical, and collaborative. Word processors, spreadsheets, email and

blog clients, personal information system, and individual media editors may aid in multiple

information worker tasks. Content access software is software used primarily to access content

without editing, but may include software that allows for content editing. Such software

addresses the needs of individuals and groups to consume digital entertainment

and published digital content. Educational software is related to content access software, but has

the content and/or features adapted for use in by educators or students. For example, it maydeliver evaluations (tests), track progress through material, or include collaborative capabilities.

Simulation software are computer software for simulation of physical or abstract systems for

either research, training or entertainment purposes.

Media development software addresses the needs of individuals who

generateprint and electronic media for others to consume, most often in a commercial or

educational setting. This includes Graphic Art software, Desktop Publishing software,

Multimedia Development software, HTML editors, Digital Animation editors, Digital Audio and

Video composition, and many others. Mobile applications run on hand-held devices suchas mobile phones, personal digital assistants, and enterprise digital assistants : see mobile

application development. Product engineering software is used in developing hardware and

software products. This includes computer aided design (CAD), computer aided engineering

(CAE), computer language editing and compiling tools, Integrated Development Environments,

    and Application Programmer Interfaces.

    Animation

    REVIEW OF LITERATURE:-

    Promotion of Product:-

It is the communication link between sellers and buyers for the purpose of influencing,

informing, or persuading a potential buyer's purchasing decision.

The following are two types of Promotion

Above the line promotion: Promotion in the media TV, radio, newspapers, Internet,

Mobile Phones, and, historically, illustrated songs, in which the advertiser pays an advertising

agency to place the ad. Below the line promotion: All other promotion. Much of this is intended

to be subtle enough for the consumer to be unaware that promotion is taking place. E.g.

sponsorship, product placement, endorsements, sales promotion, merchandising, direct mail,

personal selling, public relations, trade shows.

    SALES:-

A sales plan is more than having your sales force knows their product pricing, features,

and capabilities. In order to be successful in today's highly competitive sales world, a sales

manager and individual sales person must have a plan. Our templates will help you define your

own individual plan. A sales forecast is an essential tool for managing a business of any size

Give your customers the inside scoop:-

Recently I was shopping at a retail housewares store. I had picked out an item and was

mulling over whether to buy it or not when a salesperson came up to me and said, I see youre

interested in that blender. Were having a sale next week and all our blenders will be 20 percentoff. You might want to come back then.

    Tier your customers:-

    11 | P a g e

  • 8/8/2019 Reach of Software Educational Ins Tut Ions

    12/50

There should be a clear and obvious difference between regular customers and other

customers a difference that your regular customers perceive as showing that you value them.

How can you expect customer loyalty if all customers are treated as someone off the street.

    Distribute free samples to customers:-

Why do so many businesses include free samples of other products when you buy

something from them? Because it can increase sales in so many ways. As the customer who

bought the original product, I might try and like the sample of the new product and buy some of

it, too. Or I might pass on the sample to someone else, who might try the product, like it, and buy

that and other products from the company.

    1.3 COMPANY PROFILE:-

Etail Networks Limited or ETNL is a full-service IT solutions provider that is primarily

focused at offering end-to-end innovative educational software as well as state-of-the-art

comprehensive automation solutions for instructive institutions and corporations worldwide.

In 1990, an enterprising team of engineering professionals led by George Scaria, (ETNL's

Managing Director), envisaging the importance of inculcating computer education as well as

effective language learning facilities into the curriculum of schools and colleges, successfully

promoted them at all major educational institutions.

Although the then analog language learning labs gained in popularity and was well-

accepted in the academic community, it had its own disadvantages such as its inability to impart

learning with 100% clarity as well as monitor the progress of students effectively.

Bonded with a vision to excel in their every endeavor and committed to delivering best-

in-class services at all times, George and his team developed a breakthrough software ridding the

conventional analog lab of all its bugs and pioneered the concept of a fully-automated digital

language laboratory or ETNL Language Lab in the country.

ETNL was incorporated as a public limited company in 2001 and is headquartered at

Kochi , the commercial capital of Kerala, a South Indian state, with country-wide representation.Over the past 18 years, ETNL has evolved into a reputed IT major in the nation and boasts a

client-list that reads like a veritable "who-is-who" of renowned educational institutions and

corporations throughout India as well as overseas and is poised to expand global operations.

    1.4 METHODOLOGY:-

A software development methodology is the framework that is used to structure, plan,

and control the process of developing an information system. The framework of a software

development methodology encompasses a software development philosophy, with the approach

or approaches of the software development process and multiple tools, models and methods, toassist the developmental process. Although a wide variety of such frameworks have evolved

over the years, a particular system development methodology is not necessarily suitable for use

    by all projects

For instance, software developed using general procedural frameworks are often

embedded with additional features unnecessary to the client's needs. In such cases, the money

and efforts utilized in developing such software products are wasted and such solutions often

    yield unsavory results.

At ETNL, with our proven expertise in the field of custom software development, we

develop IT solutions on customized methodologies (adhering to industry best practice norms),

tailored to specific client-requirement based on various technical, organizational, project as well

as team considerations so as to deliver comprehensive and effective solutions that are not only

user-friendly but also offer value additions that are cost-effective.

In a nutshell, at ETNL, the general workflow is as follows:

    Identify client requirement

    Crystal-clear ETNL team assignments

    Accurately estimate work & duration

    Obtain client approval

Software development using the appropriate methodology

    Deliver solutions on-time

Impart hands-on training to client for effective implementation from day-one

    Provide 24/7 customer-care

    QUALITY ASSURE:-

In the context of software engineering, software quality measures the quality of design or

how well software is designed, and quality of conformance or how well the software conforms tothat design. While quality of conformance is concerned with implementation, quality of design

measures how valid the design and requirements are in creating a worthwhile product.

According to the American National Aeronautics and Space Administration or NASA,

(perhaps the world's most quality-conscious organizations), Software Quality Assurance or SQA

is defined as a planned and systematic approach to the evaluation of the quality of and adherence

to software product standards, processes, and procedures. SQA includes the process of assuring

that standards and procedures are established and are followed throughout the software

    acquisition life cycle.

At ETNL, quality control is paramount and is an integral part of software development

process. Our team has adopted the best-practices in SQA as stipulated to by NASA in letter and

spirit right from incorporation, regardless of the stature of the client. In today's dynamically

evolving global village, quality of product/service is perhaps the most important trait that wins a

company an undisputed edge over competition -- and over the years, ETNL has built up a rock-

solid reputation as a hallmark for quality not only amongst our clientele but also industry peers.

    INFRASTRUCTURE:-

Physical infrastructure is the basic corporeal and organizational structures needed for the

smooth and effective functioning of any enterprise. However, any infrastructure is only as good

as the team that keeps the engines of the enterprise ticking and the business growing.

ETNL commenced operations at its current headquarters, expanding and upgrading our

facilities in direct proportion to the growth of our business and professional team, and today

accommodates over 60 full-time software professionals supported by the departments of human

resources, administration, accounting as well as marketing and sales.

    4.0 RESARCH OF SOFTWARE:-

    Technology:-

C# is a multi-paradigm programming language that encompassesfunctional, imperative, generic, object-oriented (class-based), and component-oriented programming disciplines and was developed by Microsoft. C# is one of the44 programming languages supported by the .NET Frameworks Common LanguageRuntime. The most recent version of the language is 3.0 which were released in

conjunction with the.NET Framework 3.5. C# uses delegates - type-safe methodpointers. These are used to implement event-handling. Although it has someelements derived from Visual Basic and Java. C++ is C#s closest relative. A strikingchange from C++ to C# is that, it does not require header files. All code is writteninline. The .NET runtime in which C# runs performs memory management takescare of tasks like garbage collection. Because of this, the use of pointers in C# ismuch less important than in C++.

    New in ASP.NET:-

Better language support, Programmable controls, Event-drivenprogramming, XML-based components, User authentication, with accounts

and roles, Higher scalability, Increased performance - Compiled code, Easier

configuration and deployment, Not fully ASP compatible, Language Support,

We have done all this with the vast domain information we possess.

promotion, e-Branding and net marketing. Basis in order to increase the

stock of knowledge, including knowledge of human, culture and society, and

the use of this stock of knowledge to devise new applications.

New product design and development is more than often a crucial

factor in the survival of a company. In an industry that is fast changing, firms

must continually revise their design and range of products. This is necessary

due to continuous technology change and development as well as other

competitors and the changing preference of customers. A system driven by

marketing is one that puts the customer needs first, and only produces

goods that are known to sell. Market research is carried out, which

establishes what is needed. If the development is technology driven then it is

a matter of selling what it is possible to make. The product range is

developed so that production processes are as efficient as possible and the

products are technically superior, hence possessing a natural advantage in

    the market place.

    MARKET RESEA RCH:-

    Product mix:-

Product: The marketing mix concept has its roots in the 1950s

U.S. corporate marketing world, and the practice of marketing has

obviously evolved tremendously since this term was invented.

One of the changes is that there are a lot more services available

nowadays, such as those available online. Also, the distinction

between product and service has become more blurry (e.g., is aWeb-based software application a product or a service?). Either

way, product here refers to products or services. The product you

offer needs to be able to meet a specific, existing market

demand. Or, you need to be able to create a market niche

    through building a strong brand.

Price: The price you set for your offering plays a large role in itsmarketability. Pricing for offerings that are more commonly

available in the market is more elastic, meaning that unit sales

will go up or down more responsively in response to price

changes. By contrast, those products that have a generally more

limited availability in the market (but with strong demand) are

more inelastic, meaning that price changes will not affect unit

sales very much. The price elasticity of your offering can be

determined through various market testing techniques.

    34 | P a g e

  • 8/8/2019 Reach of Software Educational Ins Tut Ions

    35/50

Place: This term really refers to any way that the customer can

obtain a product. Provision of a product can occur via any number

of distribution channels, such as in a retail store, through the

mail, via downloadable files, on a cruise ship, in a hair salon, etc.

The ease and options through which you can make your productavailable to your customers will have an effect on your sales

    volume.

Promotion: Promotion is concerned with any vehicle you employ

for getting people to know more about your offering. Advertising,

public relations, point-of-sale displays, and word-of-mouth

promotion are all traditional ways for promotion. Promotion canbe seen as a way of closing the information gap between would-

be sellers and would-be buyers. Your choice of a promotional

strategy will be dependent upon your budget, the type of offering

you are selling, and availability of said promotional vehicle.

Marketing has come a long way from the 4 Ps of yesteryear, and

yet understanding this marketing mix is for your product remainsvery relevant today. The marketing mix serves as an excellent

touchstone for continually checking that you are covering all of

the bases in your marketing campaign.
