Easter Egg Hunt & Ice Cream Social

We would like to thank all the volunteers who turned out to help the Easter Bunny make this

Egg Hunt and Ice Cream Social in our new park a huge success. We helped hide 402 candy-filled eggs before 32 children and their parents put their bunny ears on and started hopping and hunting around for their dozen or so eggs they could pickup. Please check out our Facebook page for more photos. Prez Dave and I, and the Easter Bunny, couldn’t have made this event such a success

without the help from Jim & Cathy Shelton (Happy Birthday Cathy), Toni Michalove who is always a big help at all our events, Toby Isaccson was a big help checking people in, and Sean Singh helped dish out all the ice cream afterwards. Thankfully, we also had a lot of helpers cleaning up after the event. Thank you all for making this year’s hunt a huge success.

Prez Dave adds: That’s what it’s all about for me. Making people happy and making their kids bounce off the walls all night with their sugar highs.

I’m going to go into a little more detail than I did on the cover. We had another spectacular Clean-Up on April

11th. We had a total of 68 people show up this year to help pick-up trash from 99th Ave N south to 78th Ave N and the waterway in Sunlit Cove and Riviera Bay. We also completed our 2nd 83rd Avenue N/NE “Adopt A Mile” during this cleanup as well. After everything was brought back to the boat ramp dumpsters, we recycled 59.6 lbs. of Glass, 15.9 lbs. of Plastic, 8.9 lbs. of Aluminum and 275 lbs. of various metals. As after every cleanup, our residents are welcome to throw in non-hazardous materials until pickup on Monday. The 2 dumpsters ended up weighing 2.89 Tons.

RBCA CANAL/NEIGHBORHOOD CLEAN UP

Thank you to Toni Michalove, Kathy Crow, and Marlene Murray for helping us set up the tents, equipment, drinks, and for picking up the food. Thanks to the Phipps family for allowing us to use their property to stage the equipment and use their water. We couldn’t have done this without the help of Holy Family Boy Scout Troop #263 and their canoes, Keep Pinellas Beautiful for T-shirts, pickers and buckets, and Tampa Bay Estuary who once again gave us a grant to help with the expenses and the give-away Rain Barrels. The City of St Pete also supplied the 2 commercial dumpsters.

The president of CONA, Marlene Murray was there

helping, as well as the president of Pasadena Bear Creek, Aaron Sharpe, who along with his sons Ben and Sam, really went “above and beyond” by working all day and then wrestling back a piece of half-buried steel that weighed almost 200 lbs. That’s dedication to the cause! Thanks guys!! All together a total of 294.5 Volunteer Hours.

Coyotes, Cats And Collars

We may be losing some of our cats that are out at night to the Coyotes roaming the neighborhood,

but there is also the possibility that they just got spooked

by something and ran off to somewhere unfamiliar, or maybe was found by a neighbor and is sitting in their house. It goes without saying that your chances of getting your pet back are much better if they have your contact info on their collar. (and I know everybody has a collar on even their inside cats, right) If anyone finds a stray cat without any contact info on the collar, they’re either going to call the local Humane Society or the city’s Animal Control dept, take it to a shelter, or take it to one of the nearby Animal Care facilities along 4th St or to the Animal Hospital at Gandy Blvd and San Martin. You should ask your neighbors right away and check everywhere you can first before you go to the trouble of putting up signs.

Florida Do Not Call List

Several years ago the government created the Federal Do Not Call list. In theory, if you registered your

land-line and cell phone numbers then the scourge of unwanted phone calls would stop. As we found out, that bit of whimsy didn’t work.

Here’s the answer and it works. The State of Florida has created a Do Not Call program that is effective. First, register your phone numbers at www. fldnc.com/This, in itself, slows the calls dramatically. When the unwanted calls invariably arrive it’s incumbent on you to write down as much information as possible. Callers name, phone number, time of call, business name, etc. Then file the complaint. Here’s how: go to www. fldnc.com/ click on File a Complaint and follow directions.

Electronically sign and date the pages as instructed, then send. It’s a pain but it works because, when the state receives this complaint, they get in touch with the offending caller, advise there has been a formal, legal complaint filed and the state WILL pursue this complaint if the calls don’t stop.

How to handle robo calls? If your phone displays the number, google it and supply what information you have gleaned when you file the complaint.

In the past all we would do upon receiving a nuisance call was to hang up. This action doesn’t solve your problem. We’ve found we had to make an effort to stop this garbage and filing the complaint works. Nothing will stop the calls completely but I’d estimate it reduces the annoyance by about 75%.

RBCA CAR & MOTORCYCLE

SHOWby Gary West

The focus of this article is to gauge interest in a RBCA car

and motorcycle show both from a participant and spectator point of view. Many of us have cars and motorcycles in which we take great pride, have restored/have kept in pristine shape and enjoy driving, riding and showing.

Prez Dave & I have discussed this topic on occasion. With the new park completed and a long road next to the entire park area we think this would be an excellent location for a neighborhood car show (usually called a Show and Shine or a Cars and Coffee). No prizes, no admission, no classes, just show up and enjoy.

If you’re reading this and we have piqued your interest as either an entrant or spectator, PLEASE let me know. E-mail me at:

[email protected] Details will follow pending

e-mail results. If any of you need further prodding, I can tell you that there are some VERY interesting internal combustion powered things hidden away around here that will be glad to reveal themselves to an appreciative audience.

Member ClassifiedPinellas County Extension Plant Clinic at Weedon Island

There is a Free Plant Clinic being held at our very own Weedon Island thru the summer. It is supported

by Pinellas County Master Gardeners, trained by the University of Florida Extension Program. It is held in the Lobby of the Education Building.

The Master Gardeners can help you identify problems with your lawn, vegetables, flowers, shrubs, trees, landscape issues. They can identify yard and household pests, and help problem solve. There is always a horticulturalist available for more difficult issues.

If you have a grass issue, cut out a 12”x12” section showing the living grass and die-off. You can return it to your yard when done.

If you have a plant, shrub or tree issue, cut off a portion of branch with leaves showing symptoms. Bring a picture of large trees too.

Please Remember, dead grass or leaves don’t tell a story. Dig up and put a small shrub in a bag for analysis of the roots.

The Summer hours are from 9am-1pm on the following Fridays: May 1, 22; June 5, 19; July 17, 31; August 14, 28; September 11, 25.
